“Blue Mountain Lake Lovely”
Reviewed 16 October 2013

Situated right on Blue Mountain Lake near the museum, our one
bedroom cottage was Adirondack quaint, clean and had a nice size screened-in porch. Although close together, the cottages are situated for privacy, each with it's own campfire. Some cottages sit on the lake side of the property with only views of the beautiful mountains, while others sit on the bay side facing town. We stayed during brunch season which was hearty, home cooking in the lovely lodge with hours that allowed for
sleeping in. Staff was warm and friendly.

Room Tip: Check out the website map and choose a lakeside cottage.

My friends and I began coming to this little piece of heaven a few years back, when the Muskoka lodge where we'd been staying 1-2x/yr got new owner-managers who could not keep up the magic, warmth, and hospitality we'd come to expect. At the time, we were devasted to lose our haven, but now we know it was for a greater good...that we would discover Prospect Point.

After 4 years of visits in the Spring, Fall, and Winter**, I love it more than ever. The owners have hit gold in their onsite managers - Alene & Carol. Every visit, there's a little more expansion and small touches of whimsy - renovated cabins, landscaping, gardens, chicken & duck pens, PP honey & herbs for sale alongside the sweatshirts and pants, snowshoes, canoe plantars full of sunflowers, kayaks - there is no end to the kindness and creativity of these two fabulous women and their staff.

Starting in October (not during summer), guests are treated to breakfast in the fire-placed community room/lodge. The food & preparation are outstanding (and accommodations are made for special diets) If the local beauty or the lake birds don't make you want to get out of the comfy bed in the morning, visions of this breakfast feast certainly will!

You can drive to cute little shops, hike, snowmobile, paddle, swim, snowshoe, cycle, or rejuvenate your soul by simply sitting on your screen porch or lounging in an Adirondack chair or hammock by the water.

If your idea of vacation is akin to "If it's Tuesday, it must be Belgium", this is not your spot. The pace is as you set it. 'Nightlife' here is a blanket of stars and the hoots of an owl. Cozy is a fireplace and a warm blankie after a day of hiking or snow play. With ovens, microwaves, TVs, and WiFi, this hardly be called rustic, but you do get to build your own fires. You have a sense of self-suffiency when you stay here...but with close inspection, you realize you fell that way because the staff has anticipated your needs.

Another bonus is that the place is small enough that you get to meet some of the other guests (though, if you prefer privacy you don't ever have to see another guest) - and trade stories of how you found PP, how long you've come, the wonderful stories of it's past, and the great plans for the future.

And if you loved your stay, you may want to book the next one before you leave, particularly if you want a certain cabin....word is spreading and they fill up quickly - but please don't take any of my long weekends :)

** I have no doubt that PP is equally magnificent in the summer, but, to my mind, the summer belongs to families who rely on the summer break to get away together. I imagine it as a great summer camp for campers from ages 1 to 100.

Room Tip: I think only two cabins are not directly RIGHT on the water (these still have water views), so just...

If you opened a dictionary to look up the meaning of heaven the entry would be "Prospect Point Cottages". I can't add much to what the other reviewers have said. The location is perfect. The cottages are beautiful and equipped with everything you could want. I could live here forever. It is not inexpensive but worth every penny.

We loved the place. We enjoyed the nature in its finest along with being very close to the cute little village of Blue Mountain Lake (which does have a gas station / convenience store, so you can get basic supplies - and hot pizza - without driving far away). Cottages are close enough to each other so you will not feel alone, but they are surrounded by trees which give enough privacy. We stayed in Walnut cottage which is very well maintained (probably like the rest of them) and had everything we could possibly need. Just a little detail - I do not remember seeing so many outlets in a cottage before. And it is so close to water - just check out my pictures and you'll see... I wish I could be there right now!

Newly renovated cottages with amenities suitable for families married with rustic decor along the shore of Blue Mountain Lake. Clean and crisp. Thoughtfully laid out. What a find! Great backstory on the grounds and the folks that have moved this property forward. Had 2 grandsons in tow that loved the sandy beach and all the beach toys. Loved to walk to visit the bunny and the chickens, too. Grounds are lovely! Plenty of canoes and kayaks to borrow for free for the afternoon. Free wood for the campfire. Tons of seating and spectacular views. Stayed in both Hemlock and Willow for extended Labor Day weekend. We didn't know what we were missing!

Our family stayed in early June. Everyone was so nice and we enjoyed meeting all the families and couples. When we stayed the breakfast was included and very yummy. Make sure to stop and buy groceries on the way! There are no grocery stores nearby. Our family would like to return and we really enjoyed the kayaks and canoes that were available and would like to see more! This is a great place to go with kids if your kids like the outdoors and adventure and you are not worried about your kids getting into a kayak and just taking off for an adventure. If you are a garden lover...you will love the grounds! The gardens are beautiful around the lodge and Main area.

Prospect Point is a throwback to a time when kids just went out to play. We felt like we were reliving our childhood. This is a beautiful and relaxing place. If you are looking to chill outside at your firepit, have a glass of wine, and look at the stars, then this is the place for you! Loved it!

Room Tip: Book early to get a private cabin.
