We recently visited this corner of Putnum county and visited the Country Kitchen. We were blown away by the quality of the food and the friendliness of the staff. Partly because it was a late Sunday brunch we ordered a wide variety of items and were really quite impressed.
My son was still in a breakfast mood and went for a 2x2x2 - eggs, pancakes, and bacon. The pancakes were spectacular and the bacon was done just right - not limp but not too crispy. My wife seconded that approval of the bacon in her BLT. My daughter went for the double dogs with onion rings - which were again rather spectacular. The dogs were split and grilled and topped with tasty sauerkraut and mustard. The onion rings were substantial - nicely breaded and onion-y.
But all of these are foods you can find at a good diner and so I was most surprised and pleased by my spinach salad. A huge heap of spinach topped by a great mixture of onion, mushroom, bacon and eggs - just completely yummy. And all of our dishes were VERY reasonably priced.
Note that this 'restaurant' is split in two with seating on one side and a take out deli on the other and the seating/tables are bargain basement. Do NOT be scared off by the 'decor' - this place is a gem.
