Rodeway Inn Bronx Zoo
Ranked #6 of 14 Hotels in Bronx
Reviewed 29 August 2013

For our first family vacation to the Big Apple - 2 adult, 17 year old son and 15 year old daughter - weren't sure where to stay and the relative value of the property. So we picked a hotel at the end of the D line.

The hotel is very new - when I checked the hotel out the Google street view showed the hotel being built. It's very clean. The fixtures are modern and nice. The shower has a tall shower head (very important). The flat screen TV was big and okay. It was relatively quiet. Well, we didn't hear the neighborhood but there was one day with noisy guests.

Room size - um, let's say compact and efficient. Small refrigerator and a small closet. Okay sized bathroom. Not a lot of room for suitcases but we made it work. We didn't come to NYC to hang out in a hotel room.

Parking - there is free parking on the "lot" but it's for only 5 or 6 cars. The last night we were there we were able to park in the lot. There was plenty of free on street parking. Depending on what days you're there, the car may have to be moved because of the street sweepers.

Subway - we didn't take the bus. The D line stop was more than a 10 minute walk. It would take us at least an hour to get to Grand Central Station. There's another train stop closer, but that's the regional line and is supposed to be more expensive.

Breakfast - Eh. It was okay. Go find a local place for some bagels.

Neighborhood - It was fine. I'm from the suburbs in the midwest and it was not what I was used to. But that's why we travel, right? People who haven't been to New York in a while thought we were nuts to stay in the Bronx. It was fine. Everyone was very nice. And really good, cheap, pizza near by.

Fitness - I didn't work out. My kids weren't impressed. Only a couple of machines and it was very warm in there. The machines are apparently in very good shape. They were brand new.

Would I stay here again? That would depend on what I was doing. If the reason I was in town was close to this part of the Bronx, absolutely. To be a tourist in Manhattan or Brooklyn? No. Too much time on the subway.

We spent 5 days in this establishment during the first week of july and overall, we had a comfortable stay. The rooms are clean, the breakfast is more than adequate (baked goods, toast, bagels, yogurts(variety of different flvours), fresh fruit - actually very good fruit, some hot items - including a Sausages, egg patties, hard boiled eggs, cereal, etc.) and set up in a separate room with tables and chairs (which fill up very quickly so get there early), and the front desk staff are helpful and professional.

The hotel is located to very safe location and the train station is walking distance from the hotel. you can find lot of restaurant near by the hotel. The bus stop is just outside of the hotel where we can catch the BX41 to get on Fordham rd where lots of shopping stores and restaurants. A botenical garden is just 5 min walking distance from the hotel. which is very nice and enjoyable.

w'll stay again with rodeway inn bronx.

My wife and myself and my son and his fiancé traveled from Rhode Island to NY on 7/11/13 in order to watch a Yankees-KC game at Yankee Stadium. The game was at night and we made reservations to stay overnight at this hotel. The price for the rooms was excellent. The hotel looks brand new and very clean. The hotel staff was very friendly, polite and helpful. The hotel provides free breakfast and free wifi. The area is very safe. The Police Headquarter is a few houses down the road on Webster St. There is a a gas station, convenience store and Dunkin Donuts across the hotel. The gas station has a safe and private parking for $9 per night. I recommend this hotel to anyone that is in the Bronx area and needs to stay at a hotel.

I've stayed at this hotel a few times and overall have been pleased. It's not a large property but the rooms are comfortable. The beds provide a good night's sleep and having a refrigerator in the room is convenient. The rooms have either a tub/shower or shower stall.

I was told this hotel just opened a little over a month ago and it still has a few quirks, like the vending machines haven't been installed yet, but there's a store at the gas station across the street. The breakfast area and ice machine are in the basement. There's eggs and sausage, fruit, assorted cereals and breads.

It's relatively quiet, though you may hear the horn from the nearby MetroNorth tracks, but it's not a disturbance. Very convenient to public transportation.

Those are the pros. I do have 2 cons however:
1. I've stayed here on 4 separate occasions and twice the solitary elevator has been out of order. The way the stairs are set up, you can't walk down to the lobby. You need to walk to the basement then up the half flight to the lobby. Not convenient when you're dealing with luggage.
2. There are now signs stating that breakfast isn't allowed in the room. I take this to mean that you cannot go to the basement and get your breakfast to take back to your room. I don't understand this policy, as there are only 10 seats in the breakfast area and at least 30 rooms. I know everyone won't go to get breakfast at the same time, just seems like an odd restriction.

Overall, it's a nice, centrally located property.

This hotel i found it online. The rate was lower than compare to any hotel in bronx. When we checked in we found out the hotel was new and the staff was very friendly and our stay was very excellent. We stayed with family member and throughly enjoyed the stay. The hotel provided a lot of warmth and comfort. The breakfast was very delicious and there was a lot of varity food in breakfast.
