Would be advantageous for the city to include a pier that visitors could tie up to, so they could walk to local establishments. There are two places to tie up along this stretch of waterfront. Poor planning.

Although next to its eponymous lake, Canandaigua has scant water views. A drive or bike ride to the City Pier is probably the best public spot to relax and look at water. It's small and parking is limited; on a hot and sunny weekend it can be a challenge finding a spot for the car. If you do, your reward might be an ice cream cone enjoyed from a bench with a view of blue herons feeding from nearby rocks, or a vista the length of Canandaigua Lake with distant hills, a classic Finger Lakes scene. There is a scenic jumble of small buildings on stilts along the pier, privately owned and colorfully painted boathouses, making for interesting photography, and small spots for shopping and buying a snack.

This is a great place to bring kids, who will love watching birds and boats go by, as well as the mobility-impaired as one can see a great deal while remaining inside a car.

I took a walk here with my children and made the mistake of bringing a picnic lunch. The amount of seagulls following us was ridiculous. We also had to deal with inconsiderate people smoking in the nearby park.
