“Perfect for long weekend!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 May 2012

We were looking for convenient motel that was in walking distance to restaurant/stores/church and found it all in Buccaneer...

Ellen & Larry the owners, couldn't be friendlier and were very welcoming. Great little diner a block away for breakfast and grocery store, as well as church.

Thousand Islands Winery was close, as was Clayton, NY and Alexandria Bay. Couldn't have asked for anything more for Mother's Day weekend...

When we arrived, there was only an intercom to contact the innkeeper if needed. She left a registration card, we filled it out and went to out room with the key she left, as we arrived after 10pm. This motel is still back in the 70's with the gold carpet, paneling on walls, very poor mattress, mold in shower. I will say the room itself IS clean. Our door (which was basically a bedroom door), did not latch and stay locked. Thank goodness there was a slide lock or anyone could have walked in where were were there. But, when we went out for the day, it was not locked/latched. Since this motel does not accept a credit card, I had to mail in a check as a deposit when I booked the room. No problem, I did it. The day we left, we did not see any bill under our door as a normal motel would do. I left another check for the balance on the desk in the room. About 1/2 hr after leaving, I got a call from Ellen Hickey with a very nasty tone saying that she needs another check for the taxes, and we did not leave a room key - we did not "check out". To check out- I guess we would have to go to the other building which was a B&B - I do not know, she never told us. Yes, I forgot I had the key in my bag (not that we ever had to use it, just was able to push open the door). We drove back, not having a problem writing another check for the tax. My husband went in and Ellen was VERY angry, stating "who leaves a motel without checking out?! I would call this theft of services!!!" She was just ranting and my husband was ready to let her have it back, but decided it was not worth it. How can it be "theft of services" when we paid for the room in full? All we did not mistakenly pay for was $21.50 in taxes. We will never stay here again, and will tell everyone we know to AVOID THIS PLACE!!!!

Room Tip: Old, needs to be updated, needs new mattresses, and bedspreads.

We were looking for a place to stay while visiting family near Cape Vincent. The motel was just what we were looking for. It is located on a quiet street and has a view of the Saint Lawrence River. It's a nice looking small motel located next store to the Buccaneer Bed and Breakfast. The motel section is not the place to stay if you are looking for luxury, but it met our needs. It was a good place to refresh ourselves and get a quiet nights sleep. The motel rooms are located off either side of an interior corridor. Our room was very basic, but was clean and neat. The prices seem reasonable for the location

Cape Vincent is pretty small, so the motel is just a couple minutes walk to the main street if you want to look for a souvenir, go to the food market or grab a bite to eat. While there, you may want to visit the nearby fresh water aquarium, or take a short drive up to the scenic lighthouse. The motel is also a convenient stop if you are planning on taking the ferry to Canada. (If you are planning on crossing to Kingston, you actually end up taking a ferry, a car ride, and then a 2nd ferry.)

We stayed for 1 night in the motel, the motel was very clean, but needs to be updated, beds were comfortable and grounds were well kept. My husband and I sat outside for hours, it was beautiful. The rooms in the motel did not have an alarm clock or phone and they could have provided coffee in the morning. Perfect location to 1000 Island Winery and Alex Bay.

The hospitality and warmth of the owners is just wonderful. The rooms are clean and cozy. It is right in Cape Vincent which makes it nice to walk around the town.
