The Ambrosia is one of those quintessential, chrome-filled American diners with a stool-lined counter, a bar, and lots of tables. As a solo diner, I was treated very well with gracious and speedy service. Within about 45 minutes after my arrival I had ordered, eaten, paid, and left. My Cobb salad ($11.49) was delicious, with generous portions of grilled chicken, bacon, avocado, and crumbled bleu cheese. The menu included lots of good-sounding breakfast items, and the bakery cases were full of tempting treats. I enjoyed the local color, too. To my mind, it beats the pants off the chi-chi, outrageously expensive spots where I've eaten not far away in Rhinebeck: of course, this is not gourmet fare, but it's so much easier on the wallet!
