Description: In its history that spans more than 200 years, the Kittle House's timber frame has held many things: a guesthouse, prohibition-era roadhouse, school, inn, and restaurant. The stately Kittle House began humbly in 1790 as a barn on Ivy Hill Farm. The Kittle family named the eponymous barn in the 1880s, when they took over the farm and renamed the future restaurant and inn The Kittle Barn and Carriage House. In 1890, Moses Taylor V purchased the farm and surrounding 500 acres to raise his prize cattle, renaming it Annandale Farm. Following Taylor's death in 1928, the Kittle House began to develop its livelier reputation as a roadhouse. In 1931 the Kittle House took on a primmer role as the Noble School for Girls. Unsuccessful, the school closed after five years, and thus the Kittle House tradition as a restaurant and inn began. Lawrence Farms EastIn 1931 The Kittle House thrived as The Lawrence Farms Inn. The Westchester Playhouse, located on the adjacent property of what is now the Mt. Kisco Country Club, was in its prime. The birthplace of many illustrious careers, the Inn often played host to famous, and soon-to-be-famous, actors, including a young Henry Fonda, Margaret Sullavan and Talullah Bankhead. In 1949 the Inn was sold to William Carlson, who shortened the name to "The Kittle House." Since 1981, the Kittle House has been owned and operated by the Crabtree family, who has returned the House to its former glory through extensive renovations and enhancements, including the beautification of the grounds, the expansion of the Atrium Dining Room, and the transformation of the former stables into an award-winning wine cellar. The most recent and exciting changes at Crabtree's Kittle House include a striking redesign by Christan P. Arkay-Leliever of KMS Team. With a mindful use of ecological materials and thoughtful attention to detail, the House exudes a quiet elegance, befitting its charmed past.

Given that there is not a glut of good restaurants in this part of Westchester, the Kittle House is a lovely old inn in a pleasant setting that remains a pleasant venue for a family gathering, despite some of its shortcomings. Service it definitely hit or miss, and we were served by multiple servers throughout the meal, with no server in particular seeming to have responsibility for our table. As this was an unhurried family gathering, we didn't particularly mind!

Our meals, while unexceptional, were perfectly acceptable, although my skate wing was a little on the oily side. A good wine list with some interesting choices and very pleasant atmosphere keep this Chappaqua staple on the list.

We are very fortunate to be in the same town as this exquisite place. Over the years, we have dined here countless times and it is always a wonderful experience. I have also had private parties here and everything from the decor to the food to the service to the wine selection always creates a perfect evening. Thank you to the owner John Crabtree and to his team for ensuring that no matter how busy they are they always ensure we are greeted and taken care of...Kittle House is worth the trip even from NYC for a wonderful experience!

Good place for food. I enjoyed their reasonably priced but quite tasty fixed menù. Wine selection is impressive and it is easy to go with one of their recommended wines. Cambria Pinot Noire is good and inexpensive. What I really enjoyed on a warm Summer evening was the welcoming outdoors, the large open windows and the feeling of living in another time. Combined with good food, this makes this a nice experience.

We went to this restaurant with another couple, their choice. We ate in Amy's garden so the setting was lovely on a cooler summer night. The service was nonexistent. The food was okay, not anything to rave about, the only thing great was the bread which we had to ask for and a small chocolate truffle served with chocolate chip cookies. Would not go back, nothing special I don't care who goes there, it is about the food!

Six of us went for Sunday brunch. It was very crowded, but we had a reservation, and were seated immediately. It is a buffet, so you have to stand in line to go thru the different food stations. They had a nice selection of pastries-breads - corn muffin & another muffin, blueberry scones, chocolate croissants, bagels & an italian bread. Fruit was wonderful - pineapple, watermelon & berries. breakfast food was plenty as well lunch/sinner types of food.
I was disappointed in the cheese selection - a brie, and 2 others (no sign) which I think was a cheddar and swiss - very ordinary. The smoked salmon was good (1 of our party thought it was salty). But the hot salmon was good - but nothing special. The roast beef they carved was good, as was the ham. I didn't care for the lamb. None of us tried the hot chicken or turkey, but a few enjoyed the pastas. You can order an omelet from your server. Getting someone to take an order did take us asking 3 different people though. Coffee, tea and one complimentary mimosa or bloody mary or Proseco were nice touches. The desserts were not serve yourself - you had to order from the server. Portions were small - and when they brought our the ice cream - it looked like soup, and we asked for some that wasn't melted. I think they were using hot bowls. One of us asked for Earl Grey tea - and they didn't have any (not sure if they were out, or just don't offer it). We went during a heat wave, and it seemed like the A/C in the restaurant wasn't working to capacity. It was a little warm. All in all, everything was good, but not excellent - I went in with high expectations.
