“Comfort in Chestertown”

We booked a last minute trip to the Adirondacks for our anniversary, and had the good fortune to select the Fern Lodge for two evenings. The property is beautifully situated to explore the area - into the Adirondacks & over to Lake George. It also has a pretty amazing list of amenities - from an outdoor hot tub overlooking the lake, kayaks, sauna, lake-side fire pit, boathouse with a deck to read overlooking the lake and even a movie theater!

Best of all, the rooms are simply fabulous. We stayed in the "Oak" room, complete with a working fireplace, extraordinary "steam shower" and a deck with chairs and a swing with a fabulous vista of the lake.

Beyond the property, however, the owners and staff make the Fern Lodge a truly marvelous destination. We enjoyed complimentary hors d'ouevres and wine at happy hour each evening, allowing us to meet fellow guests from literally around the country and Australia! We woke to filling, gourmet breakfasts. And Sharon and staff are exceptionally well-informed about anything you might like to know about the area.

The weather kicked up and the lake was breezy during our stay, so my wife was disappointed we didn't get to take a boat ride around Friends Lake. Sharon kindly offered us a ride on our departure day, when the weather improved, capping our trip with a nice memory. (It would have been quite easy to say "too bad, maybe next time.")

We both enthusiastically recommend the Fern Lodge for a getaway to a truly scenic part of the Northeast!

We are so glad you enjoyed The Fern Lodge- and I'm so glad we squeezed in the boat ride as I consider it one of the highlights of the stay at the Lodge! I am always sad when its too late in the year to enjoy the boat and we move inside fireside...

We absolutely loved this place! We spent 3 days here for our honeymoon in Oct 2012. The owners were very warm and welcoming the entire time. The room was gorgeous and super clean. The grounds and building was extremely well maintained with more than enough things to do. Breakfast was fresh and amazing. We will definitely be returning and suggest this place to everyone!

LOVE IT!!!! Can not say enough about Fern Lodge! Luxury at its finest!! The place is fabulous!!! Top notch service! Incredible owners/staff/and Shadow! Right on the water. 100% ROMANCE ALL THE WAY! We had a perfect blue moon handfasting wedding ceremony on the property and Sharon & Greg looked to make every moment special for us. Even the other couples on site were thrilled for us! Property is beautiful and nothing is overlooked as there is so much attention to detail. And Sharon's breakfasts are to die for! Without a doubt now our MOST FAVORITE PLACE EVER!!! Once you get there you really never have to leave except for maybe lunch and dinner........

Room Tip: Every room is incredible!! You can not go wrong anywhere!

From the moment we turned onto the remote dirt road and crossed the bridge and saw the Fern Lodge, we knew we were exactly where we needed to be. The lodge is shockingly beautiful, sophisticated yet natural, luxurious but not the slightest bit arrogant. Then Sharon walks out of the kitchen with the most welcoming smile, she's genuinely happy to see you and host you in her home. The rest of the stay is magical, from the late night hot tub dips, the kayaking on the serene Friends Lake, the lounge chair reading, the fireside wine sipping, the fun theatre viewings (complete with popcorn), and the playful game of scrabble or pool. It's just fun and inviting and relaxing and beautiful. It's remote enough to feel disconnected from the things yet not so much so that you feel you have to travel hours to find connections again. The Owl at Twilight in Olmsteadville and the Farmhouse in Lake George are both worth traveling too for fresh local seasonal dinner and cool drinks. Cafe Sarah and Izzy's in North Creek are great lunch/sandwich spots. Hiking at Gore was spectacular. The boat ride on Lake George was beautiful. Everything was just perfect. If you can check this place out, please do. The price is steep yes, but the experience will feel worth it. It's about more than just the picturesque room and the comfy bed and the chocolates on the pillow and the fireplace... it's the whole picture. and we loved it. top to bottom. Thanks Sharon and Greg for having us. :)

My wife and I stayed in the Cedar Room. It is a spacious room with high ceiling, large screened in porch, magnificent fireplace, comfy bed, and bathroom complete with 3 headed steam shower and jacuzzi tub. It is hands down the nicest room I've stayed in at the aiderondacks or at the finger lakes. The grounds and the public areas are elegant and upscale. The place feels quite large and has numerous quiet nooks to relax. It is hard to describe how welcomed you feel staying here. Sharon, Greg, Shadow, Quinn, Jessica, and Susan all make you feel more like a long lost friend than just another guest. It's the little things that add up. The name on the door to your room, the advice on where's good to eat, what trails have the good views, a fire in the fireplace downstairs, the amazing breakfast, and the evening boat rides. Very hospitable without being intrusive. All in all I would recommend this to everyone who is looking for peace, quiet, nature, and romance. We will be back hopefully sooner rather than later!

Room Tip: If you simply must have a lake view from your room try another room other than cedar.

We like your title "High end resort meets B&B"! We do try to be more of a small luxury hotel, or a sumptuous private home rather than "just" a bed and breakfast.... we do try very hard to add a personal touch but still not be intrusive. It was lovely to meet you!

When I think “rustic lakeside cabin” I think of sitting on a musty porch with a fly swatter. But this inn is the total opposite. Can you think rustic and elegant at the same time? Very upscale and elegant…
The room we stayed in was one of the most impressive we have ever slept in. The handmade bed was massive. The handmade furniture, beams, lamps down to the tissue holders all on a cabin theme. Our screened-in bedroom porch opened on to the most magnificent view of the lake. The bedroom fireplace glowed at night, and the very spacious bathroom had all the right touches. As one reviewer said, the photos can’t capture the beauty of the surroundings and the details of the architecture in this lakefront house. It’s simply beautiful.
Breakfast was wonderful, kayaking fun. If you're looking for a quiet, relaxing, stress-free time-out in a lakeside “cabin/mansion”, this B&B should definitely be on your list.
Thank you to Sharon, Greg, Jen and Shadow.
