“Nice Stay in Cabin”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 July 2013

Recently stayed here and rented one of the smaller cabins = price is excellent for the view - We found the cabin to be clean enough - brand new micro, fridge, and coffee maker. Bathroom was decent - my only complaints are the AC was not working the best however the owners did check each day with me to see how it was working for us and offered to go buy a new one for the unit. and You cannot see out of the door at all unless you use the screen door - and the windows do not offer much view - one had the AC unit in it the other tall weeds and not facing river. once outside of door yes GREAT Views - So if you are claustrophobic or have animals with anxiety issues I recommend you rent one of the spacious 2 bedroom cottages which Yes I was able to see them - they are larger than the pics on website appear and have nice screened in porches on them. I will stay here again but in a cottage. Pool was open and clean.

We stayed in a cottage at The Fair Wind, the end of August beginning of September this year, for eight days. Our cottage was overlooking the St. Lawrence & it was a spectacular sight, especially while having coffee on the screened-in porch every morning. The cottage was very clean & cozy with a small couch & two chairs & also a dining table with four chairs in the living room. There were two small bedrooms with full-size beds which were very comfy & plenty big for two adults. The bedrooms had an overabundance of storage space which was nice for storing a week's worth of supplies. The kitchenette was larger than expected with plenty of room for cooking. The owners were very nice & helpful, especially when my husband & I were having trouble with our cell phone reception. They came to our rescue!! We love the Thousand Islands & will be back & we've definitely found our new vacation lodging at The Fair Wind.

Stayed two days in the Motel while on a shopping trip to Watertown. Older Motel with clean rooms and very relaxing. We stayed during a heat wave and the A/C worked hard to keep the room cool, but we would stay here again. Very quiet unlike chain hotels where all you here are doors banging shut and people talking all night.

Cute Cottage Motel on the River with dockspace! Clean and quaint, rustic atmosphere that accommodates a location all about the outdoors! Good place to spend the night and venture to the small villages that make up the 1000 islands. 2 minutes from downtown Clayton, 15 minutes from Alexandria Bay, and 25 minutes from Watertown. Minutes from Cape Vincent and Sackets Harbor. Good location, nice staff, clean hotel, good value.

We stayed at the Fair Wind for 5 days. The first day we stayed in a motel room, and the next four days we stayed in the trailer. It was an amazing time. We had a bonfire every single night and my daughter and I went fishing on the dock quite a bit. We both were taking in huge perch and bass. I think this just happened to be a hot spot for the fish and we got lucky. The pool was great when we needed it and just the write depth and temperature. There are grills set up on all the tables, so if you want to cook out it is there. The people running this place are great and we are already planning on visiting again!

A quick tip. Bring bug spray if you are staying outside. The bugs stay out there, but the trick about nature is that it is alive

Room Tip: If you are going with a family pick the trailer or one of the bigger cottages.

We rented one of the six two-bedroom cottages for a week, as we did two years ago. The cottages are older and on the rustic side, very typical of many other places in the area. Everything is clean and just right for our needs. The owners are very nice and accomodating in every way. We appreciate their "pet-friendly" policy, which first led us here in 2010. The grounds are well-kept and we have had great experiences meeting other guests. We thought the price was reasonable, in-line with other similar places we have rented elsewhere in the past. Convenient to many 1000 Islands attractions.

We stayed overnight while on a shopping trip to Watertown. The room was modest but spotlessly clean and the beds were comfortable. The air in the room was a bit stale, but we opened all the windows to freshen it up. In the bathroom, the towels were a little threadbare, but there was lots of hot water and good water pressure for a shower. Having a bar fridge and a microwave was handy. The location is tranquil and has great views of the St. Lawrence. We enjoyed sitting down at the waterfront to watch the sun set. Good value for the price.

Room Tip: Motel rooms 10 to 12 are farthest from the road.
