The Inn at the Peak

This is a rural community in a rural county; it is not a 5 star Aspen resort or Palm Springs golf course.

The Peak has gone through a bankruptcy and sale because of poor management and a recession. It is on an upswing with the new owners and you will find remodeled hotel rooms, far more professional service from check-in, to food service and upgraded maintenance for skiiing and golf. Do not waste your time if you are looking for 5 star resort and services. If you are looking for a memorable, quaint, out of the way rural experience, come here and you will not be disappointed. There is no comparison to Holiday Valley in amenity or price. If you like to ski, there is much more natural snow here. It is also in close proximity to Erie for shopping and events. Chautauqua Institute is not far away, but you do not have the steep close proximity pricing for a summertime stay.

It was a troubled site; the new owners have put much effort and cash to upgrading this and plan to upgrade the restaurant and pub. Total renovations to the hotel rooms are complete; common areas will follow.

If you are looking for a pleasant, memorable experience with family and loved ones, you can find it here.

Room Tip: If you have a larger group, look at a condo rental vs. the hotel.

Not too hard to get to. Pretty cool old school main building. Apparently, also has condos and chalets for rent.

Website is pretty complete about amenities etc. But the package prices can be confusing/misleading/wrong. Call to verify what you want. You may get more for less than you thought.Pictures don't do the rooms justice. Main lobby and hang out areas are pretty cool and nice. There are bathrooms in the lobby.

They let us get into our room at Noon, which was very cool. Front desk staff is nice and accomodating.

We stayed in the main building. Rooms recently renovated. Very nice. 2 big beds, waist high minifridge, microwave. 2nd separate sink outside bathroom (for wet bar). 4 cup Cuisinart coffeemaker with metal carafe.Nice room, interior corridors. Can walk to restaurant/pub/pool/spa without going outside. Really cool coffee cafe with full breakfast and wireless internet. Can eat outside in an small semi-enclosed courtyard. Very nice. Courtyard also has gas fireplaces and chairs to hang out around....very nice!!! Full restaurant and pub...live music in the pub.

Indoor and outdoor pools and sauna, pool bar and food can be delivered. Nice area with plenty of chairs and sun.

Girls used the spa---said it was nice

2 golf courses---lower one is pretty standard....fun and pretty nice...a little pricey for what you get...look for weekday specials or anytime packages.

Now for the shortcomings:

Much work still to be done on the exterior corridors and grounds---hallways a bit worn, exterior walkways need concrete repair...many uneven surfaces and old repaired areas

Many many stairs...stairs everywhere...going into the wings, up the main entrance, up to the pool....no elevators for anything....ask for a 1st floor room so you don't have to drag all your stuff in and out

Take the "RESORT" part literally.....it is pretty much in the middle of nowhere.......restaurants and drinks are about 20% or so overpriced....you can't bring your own food/drink into the pool area... they are VERY rigid about identifying pool guests and keeping outside food/drink out....beers are 3 to 4 bucks or more...there is a convenience store (owned by the resort) at 1 end that we didn't go in...we brought almost all our own stuff except for going out to dinner.

Overall, pretty nice. Pick your spot on when to go and look for specials. Kids will like the pool, couples will like the spa/golf...you don't have to leave the resort if you don't want to.

I'll go back. It has a new owner and I have a feeling it will get better and better. I just hope the prices don't go up every time they make an improvement.

Room Tip: Ask for a 1st floor room....no elevators are available...an even number room will get you a view of...

While visiting the area a couple of weeks ago (came back to the area to visit family), we had heard that the Peek was under new management, so we were excited to see the changes that were supposed to have been made to this old, outdated resort. Having not been there for quite awhile, I expected big changes. I saw NONE! It was the same old tired lobby area, complete with stained chairs and couches (yum!). Same carpet, same lighting, same everything. We went into the bar area of the dining room, where they seemed to have replaced a few tables, I think. The table that we went to was still very old and rickety. Everything just seemed dirty. We ordered two beers...one that my husband had to send back because it tasted funny-he thought it might be from the tap? Who knows. Mine was fine. We then ordered calamari, appetizer crab cakes, and artichoke dip. Wowzers...it was not very good and NOT CHEAP! Actually, the calamari wasn't too awful, but the others were bad. When we got the crab cakes, which were something like $12.00, there were two tiny tiny crab cakes on the plate! It was ridiculous. They seriously need help in the food department.

I really don't know what the they 'improved' out there. Boy oh boy, it would serve them well to pay the large sum and hire a hotel and restaurant designer to come in and actually gut the place and start all over. We won't be back anytime soon.

My husband and I and 2 friends spent a week at Peek N Peak. Our unit was very clean and I think, recently remodeled. We were in a 2 BR unit and it had plenty of room. The kitchen was very well stocked. They gave us the daily newspaper every day in front of our door. The 2 men golfed and thought the golf course was beautiful. The resort is in a very remote area in western NY. We flew into Erie Pa. which is about 30 miles away. You will see a lot of country roads and corn growing. We drove in the Amish country in Pa. They all seem to be selling things at the farms. Quilts, outdoor furniture, things for the kitchen, towels, pot holders, and everything is home made. Very beautiful work on everything they make. We also took a day trip to Niagara Falls. It's so amazing to see the water in the falls. We took the maid of the mist boat ride. They give you raincoats, but you still get wet. We also went to the Lucy and Desi museum in Jamestown NY. That was interesting. We would go back to Peek N Peak in the future. They have free Wi Fi also. We didn't use the spa or eat breakfast there, so can't rate those.

Room Tip: We stayed in a 4 plex and didn't hear any noise except for a child running on the floor above us...

We stayed in one of the Ridgeview condos located on the upper golf course at the top of the ski hills. The house was really nice, great views and location. More than enough space for 16 people. Both golf courses here complement each other nicely. The lower is geared more towards beginners and priced competitively, while the upper is more challenging with a great layout. It's one of my favorite courses. The staff here is what made the stay excellent. Any little request we had was easily dealt with. We needed garbage bags, staff brought them up the hill within minutes. They even cleaned our clubs while putting on the 18th green. Extremely friendly people who really make the trip complete. We've been coming here for 6 years now and don't plan to stop. Thank you Peak and Peek!

We took advantage of an advertised "Family Adventure" Deal, and it was terrific! Included was a Segway Tour for our two grandchildren and us, and it was a great experience--our guide was extremely patient in making sure all of us were comfortable in operating the Segways, and we enjoyed a wonderful scenic tour around the property. Although we didn't play any golf, both of the golf courses on the property look to be extremely well maintained. We did play mini-golf (included in the package), used the driving range (also included in the package), and enjoyed the comfortably warm outdoor pool and waterslide, and the indoor/outdoor hot tub. Our room was very nice--we stayed here a few years ago and found the rooms showing signs of aging, but they've since been renovated, and are quite lovely now. Eating options at the resort in the summer are very limited, so we'd suggest that you consider (as we did) a drive into Erie, PA for dining/shopping (it's about a 25 minute drive from the resort). We had a great time, and would certainly do it again.

Room Tip: As we went to bed we were annoyed by an extremely bright spotlight shining right into our upper wind...

6 of us travelled to Peek n' Peak (4 adults, 2 infants) for the weekend to golf, relax and enjoy the area. While I must admit that the lack of elevators was a bit of a struggle travelling with young kids, it really only bothered us at check in & check out.

Otherwise our trip was great, the golf was really enjoyable, the upper course is beautiful and well maintained. The lower course was great as well, but really doesn't compare (we should have played it first, haha).

The rooms at the Inn have been redone nicely and feel comfortable, roomy & modern. I presume the common areas are still receiving some updating but overall the property is in great shape and feels like a chalet away from everything which is what we went for.

We'll be returning in the spring, hopefully with more friends. Definitely not our last visit.
