Camayan Beach Resort and Hotel
Reviewed 6 July 2011

We stayed in Subic last year mainly because we cannot get a promo fare in any of the airlines. I thought Camayan was the best among the choices there: quiet and with a long stretch of beach. The room we rented was right in front of the beach so it was great. The room was clean, well-kept and was actually big!

The only nearby restaurant called the Reef offers a variety of food at a reasonable price. It's not inexpensive but, quite reasonable. The servings are good for 1-2 persons. When we were there, there was also a group of musicians playing ethnic/tribal music with matching fire dance. It was fun!

There are only 2 things that I am not-so-happy about this place: 1. beach and 2. location. You can frolic in the beach mainly in the morning or midday but in the afternoon it gets murky. You might need to rent a kayak or banca to go to a better spot. There are also a lot of sharp rocks at the bottom so beach sandals are highly advisable. The location is still far from the other resorts or bars in Subic. if you are traveling without your own car, it might cost you a lot when getting out of the resort to visit other places. Taxis are private and charges 200-400 (i think) per trip.

The staff were very accommodating, helpful and friendly (whenever they see you around they will greet you) they especially the divers...They also have a great love and care for the environment.the Mangroves and ships are really preserved....It was our first time to have an overnight stay in Subic so I expected much and they satisfactory passed it....The food was also great: the value for money and taste...We also enjoy our kayak adventure and swimming experience..Our room was in front of the ocean so we can see and hear the waves of the sea especially at night...The bed and pillow is so soft that you will really feel relaxation after the tiring activities.

Room Tip: Pick the room with balcony and ocean view

The fact that there is access to a private beach is great. People who aren't staying in the resort can come in for a day's worth of swimming as well, so it's somewhat private... private enough to keep vendors away. Lots of resorts in Subic are close to the beach but don't have private beach access and offer a private pool instead, so be careful.

The restaurant is good, but after one meal, we felt we already tasted everything and needed a change in menu/venue. The breakfast is alright, there's enough variety but not overwhelming.

On high tides, the beach is great. There's not much swmming area but what you get is good enough. The sand isn't as clear and you do find the occasional plastic cup, which is understandable because they do allow daquiris beachside while sunbathing (a great thing). On low tides, the beach can be very rocky. Watch your step because I had to check my feet a couple of times to see if I cut myself. Stubbing a toe on 5 feet of water can be a pain.

The location is a bit far from everywhere else. The closest attraction is Pier One, which is a great bar/restaurant with live entertainment 20 minutes away from the resort. The good thing is that they provide free shuttle service for pick-ups as well.

Rooms are good. There's not much to say about the television, but who goes to a resort to watch tv anyway? We upgraded our room to a deluxe for the private veranda, but it wasn't really so private because we can hear hotel staff on the veranda next to ours conducting a meeting. They really should know better.

We enjoyed our stay. Even its only one night. Their sunset room ar nice and the food are nice. The food is good and not bad on pricing, unlike those other resorts that you choose to eat off-resort because. The staff are professional and well-trained, esp the f&b staff and front desk. No pool but its OK. Bring water shoes. It can be crowded once the day tripper comes but there's lifeguard from 6 to 10pm and daytrippers comes at 8am. The staff wake-up early and prepare the beach, unlike on other beaches it was 8am already but they haven't combed the sand yet.

A very nice family resort. Which means if you and your better half want time for just the two of you, I suggest you find another place. Having said that, the resort premises is generally clean, so are their rooms. And unlike other resorts where Wi-Fi connection is limited near the front desk, signal was good even in our 3rd floor room. The beach is ok, but nothing to be excited about. But what surprised me is the abundant marine life. At certain parts of the beach, fishes abound and will virtually surround you if you feed them bread. The resort has no swimming pool though. The resort also runs a dive shop as there are many sunken US and Japanese naval ships in and around Subic Bay. And of course, the resort is right beside Ocean Adventure (the Philippines' version of Sea World). As for food, their buffet breakfast is forgettable, especially at P300 per adult. Wasn't able to try their lunch and dinner courses though as we decided to try other restos around Subic. Another option is to bring your whole kitchen with you, which 2 of 3 families I saw did. The hotel staff and the guards at the entrance don't seem to mind, even though their website says guests cannot bring in food and drinks. Wonder how the resort owners think about this.

We stayed in the new wing, where the rooms are good, if not too well maintained. The staff were all very pleasant and happy to help. Food in the restaurant was ok, but nothing special, breakfast was dreadful though and even the toast took forever!!
