“Good for the Family”
Reviewed 5 April 2012

We had an overnight stay at Camayan. The place is very good. The rooms are clean and the rates are reasonable. The garden is well maintained. The food is reasonably-priced. Every meal will cost you an average of P200.00 per person.

We enjoyed the beach. The level of the water has no sudden drop. Our children enjoyed playing in the shallow water. A lifeguard is on standby to look after the beach goers.

The thing that makes this resort exceptionally good is the marine life in shallow waters. We fed the fishes with bread and banana, and they were all around us. They come in different colors and kinds (e.g., triggers, surgeons, cardinals, sergeants, grouper, butterflies, basslets, and rabbits). There are hundreds of them and they are not afraid of people. Just be very careful with the young triggers, they have sharp and big teeth. Do not attempt to feed them by hand.

I tried snorkeling below the dive shop of the resort, which is about 15 meters from the shoreline. I was surprised to see thousands of jacks and scads. The seafloor is almost covered by them. I was told that they are regulars in the area.

The people of the resort are very friendly. They go out of their way to make sure that you will enjoy your stay.

The only letdown of this resort is the person in charge of their reservation. If you make a reservation, do not use their online services. It takes days for her to respond. She will make promises, but will not give you confirmation. Call the resort directly by phone, and make sure to follow up on your request for reservation because it is not their practice to update you of the status of your request.

It pays to book in advance since rooms get booked really fast especially during holidays or peak season. Specify "beachfront" room because there's an area where rooms are facing a garden. Our room was steps away from the white sand beach. The room was clean and spacious - one queen bed and 1 double-sized bed. The bed mattress is new, firm and comfortable. I had a restful sleep. The bathroom was also clean and had a hot shower. No bathtub, though. There was a moment when I needed some medicines and these were provided by the Front Desk for free. For the price I paid (Php4,950/night) which included buffet breakfast for two, I would say I had a very good deal. They also gave me 20% off on the Ocean Adventure tickets.

Room Tip: Book months in advance and specify "beachfront"

We kept on returning to Camayan resort even though we had choices to go to Boracay and Palawan. Our family really had a great time here and staff provided exceptional customer service. This resort is popular and well travelled by tourists, SAFE for westerners and the staff are used to dealing with foreigners, they won't try to rip you off like in other places (like at Kamana Sanctuary).

We stayed in different parts of the resort, great internet connection too:
- beachfront units, yes they are old, outdated rooms and have more ants but the view of the monkeys sitting in the trees right outside your door is priceless and so is the sound of ocean surf! Seeing monkeys roam around startled us at first - since the only monkeys we've ever seen were at a zoo.
- new units are modern, less ants and more spacious with a balcony that has table and chairs. All rooms face the restaurant and ocean.
- captain's room on the 2nd floor is very spacious, with a 2pc and ensuite bathrooms, small kitchen and microwave, bedroom, living area and amazing wraparound veranda. We booked this room whenever it was available.

Restaurant
- Good variety on the menu, buffet breakfast has fair selection, my parents enjoyed the fried fish and I loved the brewed coffee. If you want to take out your coffee after you finish breakfast, they will charge you for it
- After a week of dining at the restaurant we needed more of a selection so we went to downtown area to dine at restaurants
- They opened the bar for us at the wee hours of the morning

Resort has its own private beach
- Nice white sand, snorkeling was amazing. My husband threw breadcrumbs in the water which attracted so many varieties of tropical fish
- You can't walk for miles on the beach but that was perfectly fine for us

We were here for Valentines Dinner and they had singers that night, we really enjoyed it. Other than that, there were no evening entertainment during our 2 wk stay.

There are not much in amenities and the room rate reflects that - no pool or exercise room however if you love the beach, the water is right there and it is very clear. We were at the beach from 8am - 5pm almost everyday.

Due to the resort being sold out for 2 days, we had to switch hotels and stayed at nearby Kamayan Sanctuary (for criminals) which was a total and absolute nightmare. We checked out after 1 night and returned to Camayan.

We also went to Ocean Adventures and swam with the dolphins, it was an amazing experience.

Overall, great value at Camayan, highly recommend staying here. We're returning to Philippines in a few weeks and definitely stay a few nights here before heading to Boracay and Palawan.

Room Tip: The Camayan and Kamana (don't go there, waste of money and employees will rip you off) resort ar...

Me and my friends went here last March 10, 2012 for an overnight stay. Overall, it was good. The staffs were so friendly and accommodating. We had fun at ocean Adventure too. The rooms were cleaned well. Their food was good and I enjoyed their breakfast buffet. We were even given a free 15-minute snorkelling by the staffs there. Since we got no more extra money for that activity. They also guided us when we had our kayaking adventure since we told them that we do not know how to swim. he only problem we had was during the check in time where the reception staffs were panicking due to a lot of guests checking in.

We visited Camayan Beach Resort last Feb 26 with my family for a swim (day tour only). The distance from Subic freeport is about 30mins drive and you'll pass by some monkeys playing along the road side. But it's worht the long drive.

The beach is nice and perfect for swimming compared to other beach resort in the other side of Subic (that's why we transferred). White sand, though a bit rocky (small bits of corals I guess), clear water. When you swim with your goggles, you can see fish of different colors and sizes.

The place though is a bit crowded looking because cottages are placed close to each other (maybe to accommodate more guests). We haven't tried the rooms yet but the rooms near the reception area seems new. Maybe the first room from the reception would be a good choice.

The restaurant serves good Filipino dishes. Servers are very hospitable and accommodating. They even served brownie ala mode for my parents who were celebrating their birthdays in the same week :) (they didn't ask for proof anymore). Really nice of them :)

We'll surely go back :)

Room Tip: We haven't tried the rooms yet but the rooms near the reception area seems new. Maybe the first...

I wasn't expecting much of the quality of beach but it wonderfully surprised me. Warm & clean waters, well maintained grounds and changing rooms avaiable to swimmers. Snorkeling equipment for a fee, so bring your own if you like. Lots of fish around, counted only 8 species but wonderfull to watch. Bring bread with you and the fish will literally feed from your finger tips! Life guards stand at ready. Covered picnic tables available for a fee.
The hotel is not a 5-star but very comfortable and OK. I heard this place fills up during summer and the beach gets crowded on weekends, so best to go here on weekdays.

Our stay at Camayan is almost the same with my stay at the other beach resort in Subic. It is not that big compared to other resorts, however its hotel rooms and amenities are okay. The food is not the best but somehow it can satisfy your hungry tummy. The staff are nice, its jat that there are times they dont know when to prioritize. Overall, it can compete with other 5 star hotels.
