“What a gem!”

My husband and I were out on our first night in Cooperstown getting a lay of the land and we drove by the Otseaga Hotel. It is gorgeous. We weren't really dressed as we hopped out and looked for a nice scotch and a martini on a porch we knew they had to have. There was lots of activity in lobby that was absolutely gorgeous. It a bit of step back in time with impeccably kept traditional furniture and fixture. The hotel staff were dressed in pinafores and tuxedo's. We found a little bar right off the main lobby and slipped by very well dressed people without much notice:). The porch was flooded with very nice white rockers. As it was early in the season, we had the porch pretty much to ourselves. We sat and took in one of the first nice nights this year. The eighteenth hole on the golf course was gently lit, while the resort size pool lay off to the left and look as well kept as the rest of the hotel. There was also a bar size height fire pit with about 30 stools around it where well dressed party revelers had spilled out from the ballrooms above. We also witnessed a sweet engagement in the lovely setting and easily secured for champagne for them to celebrate! We have decided on our return trip next year, we will be staying there overnight. It will be worth the price tag.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the lake I have to believe would be in higher demand, which face north. You would...

Dear MaddogGoshen,
We’re glad you took the time to stop by and check out The Otesaga during your trip to Cooperstown, it looks like your visit coincided with the various special events taking place at the resort as guests were dressed-up for the occasion. The veranda with its rocking chairs is a guest favorite; enjoying the views of the lake and the sunrise or sunset is an experience sure not to be forgotten. We can’t wait to welcome you as overnight guests during your next visit.

What a beautiful hotel and a delightful place. Our recent stay at the Otesaga was wonderful. Ivan met us as we drove up to the pillared entrance and quickly introduced us to how a well-trained, nice staff should assist guests. I emphasize, "nice" because every employee at the hotel was nice without being an annoyingly, over-the-top, phony, hospitality school trained robot.

After Ivan took us to our room, brought us ice and made certain we were comfortable, we realized that we needed something from our car which was now in valet parking. Without hesitation, Ivan went to the car to retrieve the item. When he returned, I offered a gratuity, which he initially declined. What? Was I dreaming? Not take a gratuity? After my insistence, he relented. Every employee at the Otesaga had a genuine smile and a true willingness to help.

The hotel is magnificent without being stuffy or over-the-top. Spotless. Fresh. Linens in the bathroom were plush. Bathroom amenities, very good. Fabulous breakfast buffet. Hotel is perfectly situated on Lake Otsego and is within walking distance to the charming town of Cooperstown. What history and charm for both the hotel and the town. Hotel has been owned by the same family since 1909 (or thereabouts). Sure beats those chain hotels.

Can't wait to return. Maybe in the fall.

Bring your golf clubs, tennis racket and bathing suit. So much to do at the resort.

Room Tip: Watch out for dormers in some rooms. Lake view rooms are terrific.

It's so nice to be treated to the fineries of a majestic region and resort. Food and ambience are surpassed only by a very polished staff. Bed turn downs and terry cloth robes, silverware and linen tablecloths, richly appointed mahogany and lush lounges remind of the finest hotels. A rich getaway with history and pride.

We spent one night at the Otesaga on a quick getaway to Cooperstown. We loved the location. You look out over this beautiful, peaceful lake, feeling like you are out in the country (which you are), but are also a ridiculously easy walk to everything in the cute town, from the Farmer's Museum and Fenimore Art Museum to the restaurants, bakeries, shops and Baseball Hall of Fame, as well as nice parks. The hotel itself was lovely and clean; we had a great view over the lake and the outdoor "fire bar." There was a large gathering by the outdoor bar, but we were surprised how quiet the room was in spite of the crowd. The staff made us feel right at home, everyone very friendly and helpful. In the morning we checked out, but spent the day at the Farmer's Museum, then came back for a nice dinner in Otesaga's rather formal main dining room, making a quick change into good clothes in the large, clean downstairs lounges. I don't know what the regular rates are. We stayed during a spring special, and it was a fantastic deal. We left wishing we could have stayed a lot longer. Not that this has anything to do with the Otesaga, but we found people in Cooperstown were delightful. We walked to a park to see Council Rock, and intruded upon two teenagers. Instead of being resentful of our presence, they treated us to a history lesson about the rock. Sweet.

This past weekend we spent our 11th consecutive Mother's Day weekend at the Otesaga. As usual, it was a wonderful, relaxing weekend with an attentive, friendly hotel staff, fine dining, a fantastic view of the lake, and plenty of activities. I guess this why we keep coming back once or twice every year. This year, however, there were several new twists. The Otesaga has always operated on the Modified American Plan, which means that breakfast and dinner in the main dining room were included in the room rate. This year dinner is not included. This has pros and cons. I think the room rates may be a little less, but some may miss having a four course dinner included with their room rate. For me, the big benefit was that now the menu has been expanded beyond the usual prix fixe menu, and all of the entrees we had during the weekend were excellent. In addition, the hotel has undergone an extensive renovation of many of the public areas and most, if not all, of the rooms. The redesign of our room on the third floor was fantastic. The only thing wrong with the renovation is that it will probably make it much harder for us to get a reservation when we want. It is very easy to see this wonderful, historic hotel lasting another 100 years.

Room Tip: Lake-view rooms on the third floor are the best.

My children and I enjoyed brunch at the Otesaga this past weekend. The seating process was a little unorganized but we were seated in a relatively timely fashion ( but the view while we waited was breathtaking on the deck over-looking the lake.)

All was forgotten when we began to dine. There was something for everyone. We were presented with such a wide range of items, from pasta tossed in a bowl made of cheese to sushi, that we did not know where to begin or end. Some highlights that we loved were fresh made vegetables that were not frozen but thoughtfully made like broccolini prepared with roasted garlic and grilled asparagus made perfectly al-dente. The Porchetta carving station with crispy skin served with a pesto sauce was so tender and decadent. Even the honey butter for the artisan breads is worth mentioning.

The buffet stations were nicely spaced out so there were no lines and items were refreshed so we never walked up to an empty platter. The cooks at the serving stations were aware of ingredients so allergies could be addressed. The wait staff was also aware of items to answer any questions table-side. Each item we tasted we made the others at the table try as well because each item was better than the next. I think we visited to dessert station 3 times! So good.

Thank you to all at the Otesaga who made my mother's day brunch so enjoyable. Can't wait to return. Kudos!

Room Tip: We did not stay at the hotel. We only dined for brunch.

We had a family gathering recently at the Otesaga Hotel for the Sunday brunch to celebrate my Mom's 80th birthday! The entire dining room staff went above and beyond to be sure that our gorup of 22 people that everything that we needed and then some- like making a nice dessert platter for my mom and then all sang happy birthday to her. It made for such a nice surprise.

The food, every bit was amazing! Such a selection- on one would have a hard time finding a choice! As I have to eat gluten free, the dining room manager had one of the chefs come from the kitchen and he walked me around the whole brunch set up to explain each and every table. Amazing!! So thoughtful!

Would highly recommend to anyone- groups, families, couples- all are treated like royality!
