One of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. Attention to detail is amazing in every aspect, food, service, staff, etc. The dining experience was superb for both breakfast buffet and evening meal. The staff is very attentive and go out of their way to make sure guests are treated well. Can not wait to go back, but for a longer time!

I had booked a stay here for my husband and son as a special gift for father's day. Despite a number of calls in advance to have all charges billed to my credit card my husband was not only presented with a registration card showing the details of the rate - he was given a bill upon departure! I also called while he was on site to make them aware of the error and still the bill was presented. I have never been so disappointed. With such terrible attention to detail and lack of follow-up I could not recommend this hotel. Feedback from my husband and son was that the hotel's setting was very nice but room was very small and in need of updates - mediocre at best.

Dear Cheryl B,
Please accept our sincere apologies for the experience you encountered during your recent visit to The Otesaga, we are so sorry that your request was not fulfilled, especially for such a celebratory occasion. We’ve reviewed your account and indeed there were technological challenges that took place during check-in that prevented the rate from not being displayed on the sign-in screen. We should have known of this limitation prior to your arrival so we could have implemented a different process during check-in. Please rest assured that we will further evaluate this incident and review our standard operating procedures to make sure this never happens again. We would like to gain your trust back in us so please email us at otesagahotel@otesaga.com so we can follow-up with you in person.

Stayed a few days here in July. My room had a view of the lake that was magnificent. The room was very well appointed with attention to detail. Fluffy robes on the bed at night along with turndown service and chocolates. Beautiful bath with thoughtful amenities. The buffet breakfast in the Glimmerglass room was absolutely delicious, with everything you could possibly want to eat, from oatmeal with fruits to made-to-order omelets. The first morning I asked for iced coffee and the young server looked at me like I had two heads. I ended up making my own at the table after she provided me with a glass of ice. The second time I had a more mature woman who seemed to have ten arms. I had my iced coffee with no problems or questions asked. My favorite place was the veranda, sitting in a rocker looking out over the calm lake. Overall, this is a wonderful getaway and a step back in time.

This is a wonderful, stately, resort hotel in upstate New York but not at all "stuffy" or haughty. The staff is super friendly and will do anything they can to help you. (Don't expect perfection, though. The service can be a bit sloppy at times. We had long waits for coffee refills in the restaurant and sometimes when we called down to the front desk in the evening, there was no answer!)The rooms are large and comfortable. The breakfast buffet is excellent. The view from the veranda (and from our room) of Lake Otsego is outstanding. I will just focus on some practical pointers.

The hotel is booked up long in advance so be sure to make reservations as soon as possible.

It is expensive. No way around that. I would not recommend the hotel for just a night or so. But for a week or so it is worth the price.

Now, the drawback, and this is the reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars: The elevator only goes to the 4th floor and if your room is on the 5th floor (as ours was), you have to walk up and down a steep flight of narrow stairs every time you go to or from the room. We were not told of this either in the advance reservation or on arrival. We only learned of it when we were in the elevator and it stopped at the 4th floor. The bellman told us we had to go out and walk up the stairs. We were so tired on arrival, we didn't make an issue of it then and there as we should have. (On the other hand, the hotel was fully booked and had we made an issue of it, there might not have been a room on a lower floor. Who knows?)

My suggestion is that, if stairs would be a problem for you, you emphasize this in arranging the reservation and request written confirmation that you will not be assigned to the 5th floor. When i did complain, the front desk clerk assured me I would not get the 5th floor in the future.

Room Tip: 5th floor rooms can only be reached by stairs from the 4th floor.

Just stayed at the Otesaga for the first time and it was fantastic. What we experienced was one of the Grand Dames of the historic hotels that provided the summer escapes for the well-to-do of metropolitan New York in days gone by. Our room which had a full view of Otsego Lake was clean, comfortable and well appointed. It had classic old fuurniture with a comfortable bed and chairs but also a modern bathroom, a strong signaled wifi and a flat screen TV. The high ceilings, long hallways, sweeping stairwells and gigantic porch loaded with rocking chairs remind you of its wonderful history. The location is fantastic and is just a short walk to the National Baseball Hall of Fame and the Fenimore Art Museum. The breakfast buffet (a part of our package) was outstanding and dinners in the main dining along with the Hawkeye Grill were both top shelf. The staff was welcoming and always looking to help or serve. While we didn't have a chance to try the Leatherstocking Golf Course it is clearly a fine course with picturesque holes that run along the lake and the hillsides that form the slopes along the lake valley. A fantastic place and without question on the "stay again" list.

What a wonderful review of The Otesaga Resort Hotel, thank you for your kind comments and for staying with us while visiting Cooperstown. We’re so glad that you enjoyed the subtle modern amenities that we've added to the resort while preserving its historic look and feel. Guests love its location, not only because it’s a block away from Main Street and the Baseball Hall of Fame, but due to its setting on the south shore of Lake Otsego providing breathtaking views from its expansive veranda. We look forward to welcoming you back so you can experience the award winning Leatherstocking Golf course upon your return.

It was a great stay! The room was large, clean, modern, and the staff was attentive. The hotel is opulent and has great restaurants. Be sure to get a reservation, if staying on Friday or Saturday. Breakfast buffet was very good and open long enough for the late sleepers to still make it. The sunset views of the lake are a can't miss. The location is an easy walk to downtown and the Baseball Hall of Fame, which is important because of the parking meters in downtown. I have stayed there 2 times and won't think of staying anywhere else in town.

We stayed at the Otesaga Resort starting July 14, 2014 and departed July 17, 2014. It is an exquisite resort - perfectly maintained, with a superior staff. We had a beautiful suite overlooking the lake, and had a wonderful breakfast buffet each morning. Lunch and dinner are also excellent. The resort is close to so many places. Within walking distance is the Fenimore Art Museum and a farm "compound" with various buildings and antiques enabling visitors to see how people lived in a bygone era. A hop on the trolley car took us into town to the Baseball Hall of Fame and several other sites. The Otesaga is a great place for people of all ages, and we highly recommend staying there.

Room Tip: Get a room overlooking the lake! So VERY beautiful.
