“Once was enough!!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 August 2014

This is the type of motel that my parents stayed in when I was a little girl. The positives were that the staff was friendly, the room was clean, and it was fairly quiet. They provided a light continental breakfast but you had to eat outside or in your room.
The negatives were a very small shower, sediment in the water and the smallest bath towels I have ever used.
It was further from Cooperstown than I would have liked but I should have checked before booking.

Thank you for your review LovinCharleston. We are glad that you thought our staff was friendly and that our Inn was clean. Our housekeeping staff do pride themselves on making this place very clean. We are disappointed that you thought "Once was enough" for our place. Our showers are on the smaller size but are standard shower stalls and due to our buildings footprint we have no room to expand the shower size. We do have a well water system here and on very rare occasions will sediment be in the water, as we have a top of the line filtration system. We do offer a free continental breakfast to all of our guest but due to our size we do not have an indoor sitting area. We do have 2 large outdoor picnic areas to eat/sit at and if the weather isn't nice out each room does have a table and 2 chairs. Thank you again for your review and we hope you do visit Cooperstown again.

This is a great value-for-money place for those wishing to visit the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown. The desk staff were courteous and provided information when asked. This is a small country motel; the room and grounds were very clean. We stayed in room 2 . It had a view of the lake through the trees. The two double beds are tight in the room, but there was adequate storage for two suitcases and sundry bags. There is a pleasant area out back where you can lounge, eat lunch, or enjoy a quiet read. The motel has lake access and has a paddle boat that can be taken out. The lake was pristine, with little fish swimming around. About a mile down the road is the Lake and Pine motel where guests of the Hickory Grove can use both the indoor and outdoor pool. If heading to Cooperstown, especially if you have children you might want to arrive at the motel in the early afternoon, head down to the lake and then the pool, so they can work off some of the energy built up from sitting in the car for hours. Head into Cooperstown after 6PM. Parking is free and readily available. There are plenty of places to eat . We headed to the Hall of Fame on the second day taking the trolley from the yellow lot which was about 5 miles down the road. The trolley costs $2 per person and when we were there , on a weekday in August, it was running about every half hour. This motel is ideally situated also for the Glimmerglass Opera.
We'll be back.

Room Tip: The booking website will show which rooms have the best view of the lake.

My family and I stayed here for one night. My first impression was not that great. When we first got there it was before check in and the man in the office refused to let us use the restroom after being on the road for two hours. He then was good enough to direct us to the tourist area. So we drove off to do some shopping and do what was needed. When we returned to the Hickory Grove Motor Inn there was a lovely young lady that spoke with us and gave us our room keys. The room was very nice, it was roomy and clean. It was equipped with a blow dryer and other perks such as shampoo etc... We then took a walk to the lake which was beautiful. We returned to the office and was directed to a restaurant for dinner. The woman in the office also provided menus to area restaurants. When we came back to the motel we found that the beds were very comfortable and provided with firm matresses. I would stay at The Hickory Motor Inn again!

Stayed here to see the Hall and golf a few days. Room was clean and comfortable, but they are dated. Older TV and furniture. As others have said the shower is small but has good water pressure. The continental breakfast has bagels, packaged donuts, granola bars and yogurt. Coffee was good and hot. One of the least expensive motels in the area. Would stay there again if in the area.

My wife and I made a last minute decision to visit the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY but had not made lodging reservations. Based on the reviews on Tripadvisor, we chose the Hickory Grove Motor Inn -- AND ARE VERY HAPPY WE DID. It's a basic lodging with large room, large bathroom and a small shower (great water pressure and hot water). Our room, and it looks like all the rooms, had large back window (that can open) with very nice view of Lake Oswego - about 50 feet from the hotel. A 5 min. walk takes you to the lake -- and a free paddleboat owned by Hickory Grove that you can use. The people at the front desk were very, very friendly and welcoming. We also saved $5 on our tickets to the Baseball Hall of Fame.

What you should also know is that all of the lodging options in Cooperstown proper are exquisite and expensive. If you want to spend $400/night, you can have luxury. Our room was $150 - a bargain for the area. There is another inexpensive motel called Lake View that isn't nearly as well situated for people to enjoy or get to the water. I didn't stay they so can't speak about room or service quality.

When you decide to drive into Cooperstown, head toward town (road in front of Hickory Grove) until you see the Cooperstown Shuttle sign and parking lot. Park and take the shuttle ($2 for the whole day). Parking in town is limited and with a 2-hr. time limit.

We would definitely stay at Hickory Grove again.

We stayed 2 night at Hickory Run motel and were very pleased. Room was clean and comfortable, office staff were very pleasant. Rates were very good considering we were there the day after HOF inductions. Motel is approx 6 mile north of town, on scenic road along lake. Although they have lake access we did not walk down to lake.

We originally planned just to stay one night touring Cooperstown and Baseball HOF, but found Hickory Grove was pleasant and decided to stay another day. Basically we just slept there.

I rather support local motels when visiting small towns, rather supporting the chain hotels. Especially when they are close and comfortable.

Very clean, comfortable room. ROOM 3 had a very nice view of the lake. Only flaw was the tight quatered shower, everything else was great including the continental breakfast. Would definitely come back.
