“Eh...disappointing, for the money”
Reviewed 7 August 2008

I had high hopes for this property, given the experiences people gave here. When we arrived to check in to our room at about 4 pm, we were told it wasn't ready. The hotel had had a lot of check outs and the staff was overwhelmed. We were very tired because we'd driven about 5 hours, but we had no choice but to wait until they found a room that was ready for us. After we were given a room, we went up to get settled. Our room, which was a suite with two beds in the living room and one pull out sofa, was fine in terms of space. However, I asked for a non smoking room and the one we were given was in the area of the hotel where the smoking rooms were, so the smell of smoke was apparent even in our room. This is a health issue for me but there were no other room available. If you are allergic to animals, be careful because this is a pet friendly hotel. We heard animals barking while we were there. It did not make for a relaxing stay. When we finally got settled, we went down to the pool area to find it filthy with dirty towels everywhere left over from other swimmers and only a few clean dry towels for us. It was clearly not being tended to. The pool was fine, the water was nice, but it was clearly not being monitored. The next morning, we woke up expecting to have a nice breakfast. The staff was clearly overwhelmed by the number of guests at breakfast, guests were clustering around the door to the kitchen, asking for more waffle mix, for more bread, for more of all the things that had run out. I felt sorry for the poor woman trying to serve everyone and take care of the spills and messes that are inevitably left in a buffet line, but this was clearly not a pleasant situation for me as a guest, either. There was no one cleaning tables as they were vacated, and the tables were sticky with left overs from other people's breakfasts. Not pleasant. After breakfast, I decided to go to the little fitness room to get in a quick work out. The weight machine was broken, the cable connecting the weights to the machine seemed to be missing. The tread mill was out of order (there was a sign on it saying so) and so I just used the elliptical. I just thought, in general, that this hotel has serious staffing issues. It could be a really nice experience, but in my opinion, it was not. I thought it was overpriced at $178 a night, and wish I had not booked it.

  • Liked — The business center had good internet access and free print outs. Nice beds.
  • Disliked — Generally not tidy, staff seemed overwhelmed

We stayed here one night on our way from Niagara Falls to New York City. It was the best hotel we stayed in on our whole trip, which included Glen Falls, NY, Ithaca, Niagara Falls and New York City twice. This would be a wonderful place to base a trip to the Finger Lakes region. It is within walking distance to the glass museum where my teens got to make their own glass flower and beads. We drove to the adjoining towns for WalMart to do some shopping. You can catch the free shuttle by the glass museum parking to go to downtown. Clean, clean hotel. We stayed in a two bedroom with a kitchen. Girls played basketball in their basketball court. Full cable tv and the rate was absolutely unbeatable at $215/night. We did our laundry for free for the first time which was $2 per load in Glen Falls and Niagara. I would love to have stayed a month to explore the Finger Lakes region from this hotel. Watkins Glen isn't more than 15 or 20 minutes away.

My husband and I stayed in a studio suite for two nights. The room was a little small, but it was okay for just the two of us. It had a kitchenette with a full size refrigerator, microwave, cook-top, and dishwasher, and a combo living room/bedroom. Housekeeping service isn’t automatically provided on the weekends, but we were given the option of requesting it when we checked in, which we did. We were on the first floor, and there was a courtyard right outside of our room with a basketball court, barbeques, and tables. I’m guessing that it might get a little noisy during the summer and it would be better to have a room facing a different direction. It was only a short walk to the Corning Museum, and a short drive to restaurants and shops. The complimentary breakfast was very good. There was a large selection of items including waffles, bagels, muffins, fruit, hot and cold cereal, yogurt, eggs, and juices.

My four children and I stayed for two nights in a two-bedroom suite. This was our second stay here, and I was just as pleased as the first time. The property perfectly suited our needs. The rooms were spacious and very clean with simple and functional decor. Here are a few things that makes this a good choice for a family (pets are allowed) if staying in this area:
Location:
-we walked to the glass museum
-there is a small market at the gas station on the corner if you need basic supplies.
Facility:
-rooms were spacious w/ kitchenette and the windows actually opened for fresh air
-exercise room was small, but it had an elliptical which is what I used
-indoor pool and hot tub were great and we were the only ones using it that weekend
-courtyard area is great with several areas to grill and eat if you are having dinner on property
-off the lobby, there is a business center with computers, printers, etc.; Wifi is available in the rooms, but I didn't use it
Food:
-there is an area at the front desk where you can buy frozen dinners and snacks and pay cash or charge it to your room
-hot coffee in lobby all day
-free breakfast buffet was good (fruit, yogurt, oatmeal, cereal, bagels, waffles, etc); the kids loved picking what they had for breakfast; the eggs must have been that mix kind because they weren't very good, but there are other options

Overall, a great clean family hotel.

We stayed one night and wished we had more. When checking in the hotel upgraded us to a two bedroom suite, which was much appreciated for the 5 of us. The room was spacious, clean and three T.V.'s! Didn't have time for the kitchen but it was well stocked. Employees friendly and helpful. Breakfast included with a broad range of food and drink choice. Also had an evening happy hour. We used the pool, whirpool, basketball court, and free internet cafe. Walking distance to the Corning Glass Museum. I will be looking for Staybridge Suites in the future.

My family and I stayed at the Staybridge for just one night. It was a really nice experience. The suite we had was immaculate. The pillows and the bed were the most comfortable I've ever slept on in a hotel...anywhere! This property is conveniently located across from the Corning Museum of Glass and near Market Street, too. Breakfast the next morning was HUGE...lots of choices for every taste and appetite...from fruit to waffles. Great coffee. Very nice hotel staff, too! Can't wait to stay here or at another Staybridge soon!

Our first visit to this brand of hotel, and we were both very favorably impressed.

This is an all-suites property essentially intended to serve as a "home away from home" for someone traveling on business and staying in one location for more than a week. But, for even just one night, we found it impressive.

This has the amenities of a small apartment, a full function business center, a very nice courtyard, and all kinds of helpful touches.

This brand is not very widespread, but we'll be looking for these in the future.

As far as location, near the freeway - about a mile from the charm of downtown Corning (and it has quite a bit).
