We knew we had chanced on a very special place from the moment Suzanne swooped down on us at the bus stop in her tiny VW because I'd lost the address, then insisted we inspect each room to select the one we liked best before giving us tea, while realing us a potted history of Corning complete with rather wickedly funny impressions of its leading citizens. There's a special pleasure in seeing someone do what they were really cut out for and in Suzanne and Stewart's case it is surely entertaining (and it is 'entertaining' like at home, not just running a B and B). They gave us the run of the house, tea and coffee on tap in a lovely drawing room full of books about glass making (it's Corring folks!) and good advice on where to eat and such. Big homely rooms with real baths and plenty of really hot water, the most comfortable bed for a long time, total quiet and breakfasts with Stewart's 's freshly baked corn bread and muffins. American hospitality at its best. It was hard to leave.
