“Excellent Sunday Lunch”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 October 2013 via mobile

Went for Sunday lunch as a family! Helpful, accommodating staff. Nothing was too much trouble, even gave our 5 year old exactly what he wanted for Sunday lunch, which was Yorkshire Pudding, Broccoli and chips! I had roast beef and the best tasting roast beef and proper Yorkshires. I would recommend this place.

Stayed one night on our 7 night driving tour around the UK. We enjoyed the wonderful laid back country hospitality and atmosphere. The staff were friendly and very attentive and our room was clean and comfortable with a lovely big bed. Wifi is available but need to sit in the pub for reception. The highlight was definitely the evening meal which we enjoyed eating in the charming pub, listening to the locals chatting which was very entertaining.

Had a one night stay with my friend and our two dogs, the staff were very welcoming and our room was lovely. The cockerel and his mates were a bit annoying as they disrurbed our comfy sleep. Location is great as the train station is on the doorstep as well as plenty of good walks. The food was amazing, it is a bit on the dear side but we found the selection very good and enjoyed every bite. The pub is small and does get quite busy so its probably worth ringing and reserving a table if you want to eat. Have booked again for two nights in November and am already looking forward to it.

My friend`s and I went to the post gate last week for a meal, we have been there in the past and found the food very good although very expensive.
The portions where quite adequate the last time we went, so we did not mind the cost.

Alas this last time the portions were very small, I had the scallops they came in a sauce, with a small side dish of veg, £18.95 how on earth do they justify that price, my friends had a piece of lamb each on a bed of mash with a small side dish veg £18.95 each.

We all had starters although the where expensive they where good value for money.

Our feelings are that we will not return to eat at the post gate, there are plenty of other places in Whitby that will provide better value to us on our next visit to this beautiful part of the country.

This is a small country inn with only 3 rooms but the chef proprietor Mark and his partner have made it a really comfortable place to stay. A very friendly small staff who were always attentive. The food is a real revelation, delicious local produce with gorgeous flavours and interesting combinations. Different offerings every night and the dining room is lovely. They offer a small reasonably priced wine list and the bar is very well stocked. Room 1 is a nice family room over the dining room and all rooms are well presented and quiet. The inn is next to a small rural railway station with infrequent trains to Whitby and Middlesborough and is just off the coast to coast walk. Really worth a stop off.

Having visited a couple of weeks ago we booked a table and returned for sunday lunch. On arrival were informed that the sunday lunch options were chicken.
My husband and I do not eat chicken so asked if there were any other choices available. We were told there were other options than sunday lunch. The attitude of the woman dealing with us was not very nice. As pensioners we found these other meals very expensive at mostly £20 plus. We decided to leave and went to the Magpie Cafe in Whitby where our custom was appreciated, staff friendly, good quality food, and prices more like yorkshire than knightsbridge.
