Lovely little place set in the North York moors. Very nice people and outstanding food. Nice garden area with great walks close by. Rooms are well equipped and clean. Eat in the bar or the dining room. It's welcoming and friendly in a tranquil setting.

We visited the Postgate last night for a meal and the food is top notch. We enjoyed the scallops and chicken liver parfait to start and sirloin steaks for main course which were all fantastic. We will definitely be back!

we went to The Postgate having had a lovely Sunday lunch there a month before.
The Greeting was a bit cool but soon warmed up, we ordered our drinks and then chose what we wanted to eat.
I ordered the Prawn cocktail to start followed by the Beef escallops wrapped in bacon with stilton cheese sauce and veg for desert I had homemade chocolate fudge cake and ice cream.
Hubby had the deep fried brie with salad which he said was lovely followed by the Sirloin steak which was cooked to perfection with mushrooms and a very posh onion ring tower, for desert he had the apple pie and cream which looked lovely we were very well catered for and asked on several occasions if everything was ok which it all was

The Postgate.
Would we stay there again? Tomorrow and the next day and the next day. The landlord is a proper landlord. The postgate is an old fashioned country pub and I mean that in the best possible way. The room was immaculate. The shower nearly knocked you over the hot water was exactly that.
Now we come to the food! I had the king scallops monk fish and prawns on smoked Haddock mash. It was fantastic. My wife had the beef wellington how she ate it all I will never now. Obviously I had a small taste of hers and it was again fantastic. We had our little dog with us and she stayed in our room with us. Dogs are not allowed in the restaurant and rightly so. It was no trouble as we dined in the bar. It was no trouble to the staff to set a breakfast table for us in the bar in the morning.
So if you are looking to stay in a country pub in the North York moors, look no further, this is it.

Room Tip: Just go. If all the rooms are as nice as ours you'll be ok

what a sad person to write a review in November, when he stayed in April, just spent an excellent weekend here with our friends, excellent food and drink as always, staff superb as always. If you want a relaxing weekend, the postgate is near to whitby, or a nice country walk,

A cold, damp April day saw us leave York for Whitby with the intention of some real Whitby fish and chips. As the weather closed in we decided to make a detour to Egton Bridge and the Postgate Inn. Surely they must do a good midweek lunch. How wrong we were! The "Whitby cod " was hugely disappointing. Rather than a white, firm fleshy fish we were served a grey, thin wet offering, that whilst done in a nice batter was perhaps one of the worst fish we have encountered. Yes, the Inn is attractive and clearly must do excellent meals, yet we felt shortchanged and will not return. Should have gone to Whitby!
