“A warm welcome”

We enjoyed a great evening meal here recently, fish and steak seemingly their speciality. The portions were very generous. As we had our dogs with us, we ate in the bar; however, enjoying a warm banter with the locals and staff just added to our enjoyable holiday experience. We even came away with a couple of free postcards, which are presently in the post to friends. (Our holiday cottage info says it is the Black Dog pub in 'Heartbeat.')

Having been to several pubs in the area over a number of years, we popped in last week.....3 times!!! The food is some of the best I have had, large portions beware, you won't be able to get 3 courses down, so decide carefully! Everything is cooked to order, Sunday lunch was lovely, pork and lamb, that's your choice, so take it, old school food with twists here and there, the staff are lovely local people and nothing's too much trouble. I wish I had been here before and not suffered some dreadful plates of sometimes unrecognisable food in other local pubs, will be back!!!

We were staying nearby so just just experienced the food here. The bar is very cosy with the fire lit in the old range. The menu was extensive and the six of us each chose a different main course. Everyone was delighted with their delicious food. I can’t remember what the others had but I had the slow roasted lamb on minted mash with a wonderful jus. The service was friendly and prompt. It was good value.

If you want to retreat to the countryside you will have to go a long way to beat The Postgate Inn, from the moment we arrived we were made to feel special, a warm friendly greeting from the landlord and all his staff, who are so helpful, nothing was too much trouble. The food was of an exceptional standard with a good varied choice, prices are a little on the high side but the food is divine. There are only three rooms for let, we had room 2 which is a double, which had everything you need, it was clean and tidy. All rooms are above the restaurant and bar so there is some noise from theses areas if you retire early, but it not annoying. Full breakfast is made to order, arrives quickly and piping hot, there is a plentiful supply of tea or coffee.

What a lovely place. Original range fire, good choice of beers, and what a menu! We called in for lunch, so only sampled a sandwich, generous portion with chips and side salad, more than enough.

The rest of the menu looks fantastic, homemade pies, locally sourced steaks, scallops, choice of sauces, homemade burgers, etc, etc.

Dog friendly, children's menu, very quaint, in a lovely location - enjoy.

We called in for a drink as we were staying in Egton just up the hill.
What a friendly and cosy place to be. On our visit there was a celebration evening for the landlord (10 years) so it appeared the entire village had turned out which was fantastic to see.
There was a good range of food on offer on the menus and if it hadn't been so packed (not a seat to be had) we may well have eaten there.
The landlord even called a cheery hello as we walked past earlier in the afternoon with our dog on the way back to our holiday cottage.
Definite place to try, especially if you like trains as the station is right next to this Inn and they have accommodation too :)
