“Beautiful English pub with a great selection of beer”
Reviewed 5 June 2012

I have just returned from a bank holiday weekend of camping at the Merry Harriers pub in Hambledon, Surrey. The pub itself is fantastic, set in beautiful surroundings with an excellent choice of beers, many brewed locally. Being that there was only two of us camping we had the entire field to ourselves which was nice, although I'm not sure if I can class the Merry Harriers as a campsite, its more a field opposite the pub where you're welcome to pitch your tents. In truth it could be better maintained (the grass definitely needs cutting) and the facilities could be improved. This though shouldn't detract from the warm welcome you're given by the pubs owners who always seem to have time for a friendly chat and able to impart good advice about the surrounding area. To finish the beer garden at the rear of the pub is simply outstanding. The Merry Harriers is a great place to visit and I would definitely recommend it.

“Friendly place to eat and drink”
Reviewed 27 May 2012

Came here with a family group of 10 people with no booking. This wasn't a problem, they fitted us in and made us all welcome. Food was very good as was the beer (it's a CAMRA Good Beer Guide pub). The garden out the back was fine and included a kids play area and a boules area.

“Lovely country pub with great food”
Reviewed 27 May 2012

Very nice atmosphere, friendy service and exceptionally great food, worth every penny. We were totally taken by the warm welcome and the very tasteful interior of this country pub with wonderful garden to the back of the building. The food is simply outstanding and you get exactly what you expect. We had asparagus with poached egg and melted butter as a starter and a rabbit hot pot and venison as a main course. The food was so good that we will definitely come back!

A big thank you to the landlady and her team for running such a wonderful place!

“Heart and soul of the Village”
Reviewed 21 April 2012

Genuine local village pub, serving gastro-pub food and an excellent range of beers. The cellar is looked after very well by the licencee and features a variety of generally local "real ales". This pub is a fundamental part of village life for a large number of the local residents. The food is generally of a high quality but expect to pay Surrey prices - which is fair enough as you are in Surrey! It's better value if you come to one of the "special" evenings, for example Steak Night. Friendly young bar staff and a pair of licencees who understand the business and put on a variety of entertainments to amuse locals and visitors alike. For example; Opera nights, Theatre productions in the back garden, Quiz nights, Camp site, B&B rooms to let and, bizarrely - Llama treks! You may have realised from my Trip Advisor name (which is the name of village where the pub is located) that I am a local. BUT this review is not done because I know the licencee or any other inappropriate reason. This is my "local" but there are at least 3 or 4 other pubs not much further away that I could use instead if I preferred. But I don't prefer them. I go here because it is the best pub in the area and this review is written for that reason alone. If you visit once you may not be convinced, but I can assure you, as a regular, it really does merit 5 stars.
