We visited the Adirondacks the week of July 23rd. We had no reservations but were lucky enough to find an opening here after a long days ride. The staff was so welcoming and the food was excellent. We loved it so much we stayed two more nights and enjoyed riding the rodes with all the beautiful scenery during the day. Thanks to all the wonderful staff for the great hospitality. Very relaxing!!!

I booked a special occasion package for our anniversary weekend. After checking in, we went to our room (that had a lovely lake view) and found a cheese, cracker, and fruit plate, a bottle of wine, and a lovely flower arrangement! The hospitality and attentiveness of the owners and staff is exceptional. We both really enjoyed using the kayaks, canoe, and paddle boat daily, and just sitting on the porch, enjoying the water, and the hummingbirds that come to the feeders right on the porch! We ate at the Big Moose every day, and enjoyed meals like Rustic Shrimp and sausage pasta (my husband's favorite) and lobster ravioli with shrimp (my favorite). The summer salad with a concord grape vinagrette was very tasty, too. The inn is from the early 1900's, so if you like perfectly level floors, and no charm of yesteryear, this may not be the place for you. If you love the outdoors, friendly people, excellent food, and a prime lake location to observe and enjoy wildlife and birds, then visit - you won't be sorry!

Room Tip: Lake view is worth it!

Very relaxing and fantastic 2 day vacation, Mark and Susan are amazing and work incredibly hard to provide the exact experience each of their guests is looking for. In our case our family had just driven up from blazing-heat-wave-hit NJ with an antsy toddler...from the moment we arrived and took our first breath of lakeside air it was wonderful. There is something for everyone - a row of rocking chairs on the front porch overlooking the lake, kayaking, canoeing, motorboat rentals, etc. There's a small roped-off swimming area between the two long docks on the property. Each have seating space at the ends and are great places to socialize over a glass or two of vino from the inn's amazing list. We especially enjoyed the bottle of 2007 Malbec with one of our two gourmet dinners. There are too many good dishes to list here but suffice it to say that Chef Dave is a master when it comes to roasting a duck; the lamb almost brought us to tears (literally) and we ended up fighting over the last of the exquisite freshly-baked loaf of crusty bread, served with herb butter. There are vegetarian and health-conscious options available on their menu as well; the peppercorn salad dressing is especially tasty. What struck us the most was the friendliness of the owners and staff, many who we got a chance to talk with in the cozy bar in the late evenings. It was also amazing to wake each morning to the sound of loons calling to each other, over a smooth lake covered in a light fog that always burned off shortly after sunrise.

Room Tip: The rooms' descriptions as well as costs are on their website; I would recommend a lake view opt...

If you are within 2-3 hours driving distance of the Big Moose Inn, you absolutely OWE IT to yourself to go there! It's that good and that enchanting! Our reservation of four ordered Duck Hoisin (Roast Duck with Wasabi drizzle), Porter Duck Pasta (house special with a Porter Beer sauce that my brother-in-law and I thought took top honors), Prime Rib End Cut (it was delivered to our table like a small roast!), and a PURRfectly cooked, fresh Salmon Florentine (Dill sauce and salmon were so fresh, we had to brush off the Arctic ice over the steaming fillet). The service staff was incredible too...in a world I had resigned myself to nobody even understanding (or caring) what REAL table service means! The Manager has her staff organized like a fine Swiss watch but they are genuinely friendly too. Why did I wait so long to discover this place right on the Lake!!!! Don't even get me started on the Bar Meister's drinks. Best if all? Incredibly fair priced. No enree even over $22.00 and SIX STARS in every respect. God Bless America and the visionary owners of this incredible culinary Nirvana!!!

My husband surprised me with an overnight at Big Moose Inn for our anniversary celebration. As other reviewers have said, it's not fancy or newly renovated. BUT I've never felt more welcome anywhere. Susan and Mark are gracious hosts, working hard to deliver a lovely experience for their guests. Our room (#19, Mountain View) overlooked the lake and the view was gorgeous! On the bed-side table was a basket of white roses, tiny hot pink tea roses, white statice & eucalyptus, as well as an enormous cheese/fruit board w/crackers & a bottle of wine/glasses. Must've been a special package deal. LOVELY! The room's king-size bed was two twins pushed together, which I've experienced elsewhere - not a deal breaker. Good mattress, sheets were fine. It was clean and fresh, altho there was a rust stain in tub & light water pressure. Hey, you're in a rustic inn that was built in 1902 - - it's got character!
The spacious deck is such a beautiful spot. Sit in the wood rockers and let the cares of the day melt away. There are also 3 floating docks with adirondack chairs & a gazebo on one, where again the view is spectacular. Canoes & kayaks, both single and double, are free to use. Highly recommended. We went out in the morning Sunday and the water was like glass. So peaceful and serene. Great tavern, and dinner in the dining room was terrific; do specify a table by the window. Continental breakfast included. Early check-in time (2:00!). Go, kick back & relax. And say hello to the Mayers for us -- tell 'em we'll be back!

Room Tip: Do watch to be sure your room has an en suite private bath, if that's important to you. There ar...

If you are looking for a fancy, upscale hotel, the Big Moose Inn is not for you. But if you're looking for a charming, old time bed & breakfast type inn, this historic setting in the Adirondacks is worth a visit. The grounds and lake are beautiful, the staff is friendly and helpful, and the rooms were adequate. It's a welcome retreat away from the hustle and bustle of busier towns in the area. The restaurant was crowded the night we were there, it seems to be a popular destination for people looking for a nice dinner. The front porch overlooking the lake was so relaxing. We sat in the rocking chairs in the early morning and enjoyed the free wi-fi (just to check e-mail) as we drank our coffee and watched the fog burn off to reveal a gorgeous fall day. The inn is not fancy but it's a wonderful place to enjoy the true rustic feel of the Adirondacks.

Big Moose is an old-time Adirondack inn directly on beautiful Big Moose Lake. Some of the rooms are small, and the ones on the back side can be noisy. The beds in our room creaked loudly when we moved. We could hear the alarm in the room next door go off at 5:30 am. The bathroom was out of date, the tub was rusty, and hot water was all or nothing. If you are looking for a lot of in-room comfort, this might not be the place for you. But if you're looking for a beautiful place to sit on the porch and enjoy the lake, to go kayaking (they lend kayaks), to sit around the campfire with a glass of wine, this is the place. We've been back several times and would go again in a minute. Any inconveniences are overshadowed by the location.

Room Tip: Stay lake front - it's worth the extra money for comfort as well as view. Rooms are bigger and b...
