The staff is very helpful and nice. The Inn is placed far from crowded places and it is a beautiful location for even a short stay. We only wish we could stay more than one night!
We had dinner at the pub (restaurant was fully booked) and enjoyed good food!
P.S. : you can also arrive by boat

I knew my sister had picked the perfect place as soon as we turned into the driveway and got our first view of beautiful Big Moose Lake. This is a real rustic inn with squeaky floors, a wooden screened door to enter the lobby and some doors that rub their frame which is all part of the charm of this very early 20th century inn. The lobby reminds you of the parlor of a Victorian home complete with bay window, fireplace and ornamental posts and rails on the stairs. Mark and Susan could not have been better hosts; always friendly, engaging and accommodating. Craig, the equally friendly and engaging bartender, had answers to all questions we asked about the area. The complimentary continental breakfast (from 8-10AM) was fine to get you started for the day with breads, cereals, yogurt, fresh fruit, hard boiled eggs and juices, etc. The lunch menu has what you would expect from soups and salads to burgers and sandwiches. And sitting out on the spacious deck in the fresh air to enjoy it was perfect. The dinner menu was varied as well. All the food I had was good or very good. Prices were very reasonable including drinks at the tavern. Free use of kayaks, canoes and the paddle boat allow for easy views of the Inn and the lake shore with only a few minutes of paddling. Rocking chairs on the front porch overlooking the lake are the perfect place to unwind with friends, family or quiet time alone. This is not a place for those looking for an elegant Inn or who want to stay 'connected' (though there are tv's, free wifi and a pc for guest use in the lobby). This is the perfect, truly rustic destination to connect with nature, relax and unwind.

Room Tip: The view of the lake from north facing rooms is beautiful.

Great tavern, well made drinks, fine dining , picturesque location, attentive service, swimming in clear water, fishing quiet atmosphere, plentiful continental breakfasts . We found so much to do canoeing, hiking, kayaks, mountain biking, boating (on rented boats from homey Dunn's "Marina" next door).

We extended our stay 3 day stay for an extra day. Rooms are clean, quaint Adirondack style with wonderful views of the Lake. WiFi but no reliable cell service.or room phones. We are talking idyllic wilderness inn here, not the Hilton.

Our room attendant Virginia chased us down on foot from the 3rd floor and down the driveway as we were leaving to return my 13 year old son's sweatshirt he had left in the room....typical of the friendly personal care that we consistently experienced during our stay. Nearby Towns of Inlet and Old Forge have the tourist shops, movies, water slides and rafting.

They also have tremendous trails for summer mountain biking and Winter snow mobiles..

We will return. .

Room Tip: No elevators and the bartenders pour an excellent drink so you may want to consider a second floor r...

Susan and Mark are so friendly and helpful in helping you plan out your day. They are always more then accommodating. Every time we visit it is like staying at a relatives house. If you have any complaints just talk to them and they will do their best to correct the situation. The entire staff is wonderful. It's also a huge plus to have use of canoes and kayaks free of charge and a bar and restaurant right down stairs! Perfect location on big moose!

We have stayed at the Big Moose Inn 3 or 4 times now and always enjoy it. The staff is very helpful, rooms are always clean, and dinner is always delicious. The Inn has a great bar when your are ready for a night cap and the staff will even light a fire by the water for you if you like! (Warning: that might inspire an additional night cap.)

Daytime delights include kayaks, a canoe, and a paddle boat- all at no additional cost. And all are great ways to enjoy the eponymous lake. If you are more comfortable appreciating the lake's charm at arm's length, the Inn has two docks, a cozy porch, and a deck.

The unpretentious atmosphere of the Big Moose Inn makes you feel as if you are at a friend's lake house.

The room and lobby decor are noting spectacular, but the location and view more than make up for that. I suppose they could drop $2M on renovations and up the room rate, but then it just wouldn't be the same. Of course if you go to the Adirondacks because you plan to spend a lot of time indoors, you might want to rethink your vacation destination.

Room Tip: Lake views are a good value.

Couldn't ask for anything more. Great views including sunsets, kayaks and canoes, a bar with a fantastic bartender, a top notch restaurant, cozy building, and friendly hosts. My wife and I stayed for only 1 night but expect to back for multiple nights.

I had visited the Big Moose Inn on my own several years ago, shortly after the current owners took over. It was such a great experience that when my husband and I traveled to the Adirondacks in July, we booked a four night stay. It's one of the last of the original Great Camps in the area, and the owners have wisely retained its historic charm. It's comfortable--many parts of the inn are air conditioned and our 3rd floor room (Pine Cone) was spacious. There's a bit of a climb to the 3rd floor on an old narrow staircase, but the panoramic view from our room was more than worth it. The room was very clean. The multiple dining options--wood-paneled tavern or the restaurant with views of the lake--offer flexibility. The inn offers free wifi, though sometimes service was very slow. Most days, though, we could eventually get the connection. On nice days and evenings, diners can sit on the large deck and order from either the bar or restaurant menu. The views are incredible and at night we fell asleep listening to the lake noises of calling loons and chirping frogs. Canoes and kayaks are available free of charge, and we only had to walk a few feet from the front of the lodge to grab one and float out onto the lake. We'll be back again to enjoy this idyllic setting!
