On arrival there’s very steep hill down to lodge & lodge lower parking area which that night froze over & was then covered in ice & not sanded at all for 3 days we stayed. My husband finally sanded it himself on departure(sand inside bar door entrance)due to having to get up the hill with our truck & snowmobile trailer while the owner,Robert Hankey, stood there observing. There was no food available"due to no one being there, guess we didn't count"for 2 days of 3 stayed. The room first 2 days was freezing cold, which gas fireplace helped take chill off. Then on 3rd day room was 100° & we had to sleep with one window open(second window wouldn't open due to rotten sill)& no covers & still unbearable.Jacuzzi tub had scum line & shower door clear caulk had what looked like black mold behind it but inn manager Sue Ellen Mathers said it was just stain. There were two spots on the ceiling, one in the entry way & one in the bathroom damaged from water leak with sheet rock hanging down alittle.Continental breakfast consisted of stale bagels, english muffins, small boxes cereal and let's not forget the fermenting fruit cut up in bowl floating in fermenting juice served 2 days in a row even after mentioned to Inn owner Robert Hankey. One morning we left to go get GOOD breakfast & left"Do Not Disturb"sign on room door & locked room door to return & find bed made, no clean sheets just made, despite the sign.Inside room the door had heavy duty hook & eye lock but eye was broke off so there was no way to lock door besides doorknob lock, we mentioned to owner but it was not fixed. One good thing is the bartending & cook STAFF is very friendly. The one dinner we did get was very good.My advise is go somewhere else to stay & “if” the bar & restaurant are open go eat & drink only.Hope this helps the next victim. For the money per night it was not at all what we expected after looking at the web site & reading couple of reviews. The manager Sue Ellen did give us a $50.00 gift card when we left after our conversation about heat & mold but we WON’T be using it.

The Big Moose Inn looked great on the website and most of the reviews I saw looked good. However the "pretty nice" review reflected our experience as well. The inn is not too bad but in somewhat need of repair. Our room was smaller than it appeared in the photo, not as well cleaned as it should have been, an outlet we needed did not work and there were no blinds on the windows - a major problem as the dock and parking lot lights glared in when we tried to go to bed. They eventually were turned off close to midnight.

We were there for peak fall color but apparently that is still off season, as it was hard to get help at the desk for various problems such as getting the dvd player to work. Be aware that the rooms go up to a third floor with no elevator and there are no phones in rooms and no cell service.

It was quiet and the view was great.

We also ate in the restaurant - not impressive and my wife's fish was well past fresh. We returned it, received a $10 credit and no apology from cook or manager.

We will not return and would not recommend it unless we hear they have made significant improvements to both facilities and customer service.

We found the Big Moose Inn on an Adirondack website. Looked nice so we went for it. We stayed the night before at the Sandy Point Motel in Long Lake,NY (see my review of that-Great!).
The Big Moose Inn is located directly on Big Moose Lake with beautiful views from most of the rooms and from the large porch/deck area. We spent the aftrenoon on the porch in one of the large rockers (could have used cushions) very nice. The Inn also offers free use of canoes/paddle boat and kayaks.
Our room was very nice although I think a little over priced $172 w/tax. The venitian blind on the main window looking out to the lake was in major disrepair. It took multiple complaints to the front desk to get it repaired which finally took place about 8PM after checking in at about 2:30PM. In fairness, it was finally repaired and the person at the front desk was very cooperative . Enough said. We had a king sized bed that was comfortable and a small sepaerate siting area. The Wi-Fi worked when we first arrived then died in the evening. Restarted to work in the AM. The TV (which didn't work until I determined someone had put the batteries in the remote wrong) only gets 8 channels. Again, in fairness Wi-Fi and TV weren't the big reasons for being there. The batroom had a very small corner shower, watchout the water is scorching hot. I hit the faucet with my back and was almost scaleded. Overall it was a nice place with a few minor annoyances

Normally we stay at the Woods Inn in Inlet NY (2 miles from Big Moose Lake/Inn) but due to their rooms being booked we reserved a room at the Big Moose. WHAT AN AMAZING TIME! The rooms are very clean and the staff is so amazingly nice. The Inn sits right on the lake and the views are spectacular. We sat on Adirondack chairs right on the lake before dinner. Their restaurant is wonderful as well. We both had filet mignon and it melts in your mouth. Such a great time here and the people are so nice. We both gave it a thumbs up and are thinking of making this an annual trip!
