LaGuardia Plaza Hotel - New York
Ranked #2 of 12 Hotels in East Elmhurst
Reviewed 19 June 2010

The staff at the Crowne Plaza LaGuardia airport hotel is terrific. Stayed one evening and arrived after treacherous road trip from Southern CT to LaGuardia and the the Whitestone Bridge. Friendly, warm greeting - but the inside of the hotel and the hallways smell of smoke. the bathroom light swtich had mold and fungus on it as well as the aircon vent - property was literally third world quality. Desperate need of a renevation of the rooms and the inside of the hotel. Every time a neighboring room runs the water - the noise reverberates throughout the walls. 3.5 star Priceline rating is a joke, more like 2 stars. I have stayed in Best Westerns in much better condition. Must be the volume of traffic - expect the minimum (running water and a friendly staff) and this hotel will meet your expectations. I thought IHG was a billion dollar company? And LGuradia is a world known airport with many connections to places around the globe. They can certainly do better and reinvest in their business and properties from time to time - especially this one. BRAVO to the staff that work here, though. They are obviously doing their best to overcompensate for the blighted building and rooms.

For 70 bucks per night I cant complain. Priceline normally assigns smoking rooms here so if you don't like it, call ahead, they had no problem switching my room to nonsmoking. I could see why people paying a full rack rate would be disappointed. But, I must say, If you think this crowne is bad try the other economy rooms like holiday inn at jfk, jfk rooms are much smaller and way more uncomfortable. I think when people review this hotel they sometimes forget, it just for airport stays or brief stops in the city. The great thing about the location of this place is Manhattan is a 10 minute drive over the bridge if you dont hit traffic.

I have stayed several times when I need to bid priceline 3.5* same day in LGA area. Check-in usually takes time and was given a smoking room several times. Check in staffs complain about priceline before I complain,"Why they(priceline) do this(assign me a smoking room)?". I believe they just give a smoking room to a priceline customer since priceline does not guarantee room type or bed types. Excellent location if you want to stay close to LGA, room size, staff and housekeeping are just okay. I stop bidding 3.5* in this area because 3* or other properties are better than this.

Across the road from the US Airways terminal at LGA (where I was flying from), so the location of this hotel proved to be excellent. It's a short five minute walk from/to the US Airways terminal, or you might take the shuttle (although I'm not sure whether or not it's complimentary). The hotel was OK; room was big enough, and the free wi-fi internet proved to be useful. And the hotel even has a swimming pool; always nice to relax before (or after) a long flight.

However, probably due to the location, it's rather expensive for what you get in return.

The hotel provides complimentary shuttle service to and from the airport and also to the subway station. They don’t pick you up but you can take the bus or a taxi. The station is only 1.5 miles away from the hotel.

The check-in was hassle free. The lobby and the room were very clean. The bathroom was clean with extra room. We’ve been to hotels that were only nice on the outside but the bathroom is tiny. It’s the opposite with this hotel.

Overall, everything was above satisfactory. The next time I visit New York, this hotel will be the only place I choose. I highly recommend this place.

After reading other reviews for this hotel, I was very concerned about what I would find upon arrival. However, I found the property to be in good shape for an airport hotel. The staff was courteous and very helpful. The room service was good, and reasonably priced, especially for the area. There's no free breakfast, which is a down side, but again, the room service wasn't outrageous. My room was very spacious. It was a single queen, but there was space in the room for another bed, if they'd chosen to put one in there. Instead I had a chair with an ottoman and side table, and a desk. There was also a small refrigerator in the entertainment console. The bathroom was enormous, and everything was very clean. The bed was comfortable, and there was a nice little sleep comfort pack with a mask, ear plugs and linen spray on the bed when I arrived. I booked through Hotwire, and usually when you do that hotels don't give you the best room they have. Either they ignored that this time, or the hotel has a lot of nice rooms. Mine was room 633 if anyone wants to request it. It is a non-smoking room.

The location was very convenient, both to the airport and Manhattan, if you're willing to take the subway. The free hotel shuttle will take you to the subway station, and the 7 train takes you straight to Midtown. I was able to explore the whole lower half of Manhattan for the price of a one day MetroCard ($8.25 at the moment), which I was able to purchase in the hotel gift shop. It couldn't have been easier.

"You could order kid shows."

(From our 6-year-old son who liked the hotel so much he wanted to write a review.)

It was very nice, convenient, excellent breakfast. Free shuttle to airport.
