“Great food and excellent service - a hidden gem in East Hampton!”
Reviewed 26 June 2014

This is a hidden gem in East Hampton village. We had 7 people - adults and kids - and went on a June weeknight. Made reservation on OpenTable same day, but probably didn't need it based on how uncrowded it was. Service was very attentive and courteous, even with the several special requests we made. Atmosphere was very relaxed and comfortable. Food was very good, including salads, entrees (meat and seafood), and desserts (especially desserts!). Would recommend to anyone in a heartbeat. If you happen to be taking the train to East Hampton from the City, work a meal here into your plans - it's just steps away from the station!

“Great out of the way place”
Reviewed 3 November 2013 via mobile

We have been out in the Hampton's for the last 4 days and have eaten in some good restaurants. We happened upon this restaurant tucked away near the train station. It was the BEST place we ate during our visit. The food was excellent: great wine list : and the service was very friendly and attentive. We will be back.

“Race Lane is a Wreck”
Reviewed 29 September 2013

Super Summary: Good food, terrible service and management. We hadn't been to Race Lane over the last year because our experience the last time we were there was as equally bizarre. So we thought we'd give it another try. Now, I wish we hadn't.

While the decor is bland, it has the potential for so much more charm, especially if they'd just get the lighting and sound barriers right. Why not use all those spotlights which are shining into customer's faces and point them up into the rafters in order to create a more ambient setting?

We had a dinner reservation there on Saturday night (September 28) for 8:15pm and were seated at 9:30pm. The hostess did buy us a round of drinks after a 15 minute delay but neglected to tell us that we'd have to wait another 45 minutes to sit down. Unacceptable. We were finally eating our entrees at 10pm. In fact, at 9:15pm we were trying to walk out and go around the corner to our favorite, Fresno, when we ran into some friends entering Race Lane. That meeting delayed our walkout for about 10 minutes and in that time, our table became ready. We were starving by this time and decided to stay.

The waiters have had no training and the dining experience is a wreck. BTW, waiters should not sit down at the table they're setting, even if they're tired. Put bread down on the table when the diners sit down - don't wait until they've ordered or waited more than an hour to order. They were super hungry. Waiters should not try to squeeze in 10 people for a table which seats 6. And instead of offering availability for reservations on Open Table every 15 minutes, space out the reservations so that each table can enjoy a valuable dining experience. Seat the parties in the order in which they reserved. The prices here do not reflect a discount, neither should the service.

When a tip is not offered on a paid bill, there's a good reason for it. The waiters should not ask for a gratuity. When things go wrong and we were told that two waiters did not show up that night - there should be a better excuse said to the customers other than "I have no words". That is unacceptable. The outdoor option could've been better if they'd turn on the heat lamps for more tables...they were on the patio but no one turned on more heat lamps.

“Good food, terrible terrible terrible service.”
Reviewed 13 September 2013

Chef Nimesh Maharjan is very creative and cooks up amazing food.

The service on the other hand is a disaster.
Stressed, impolite, too fast, walks away when you are still talking.
Service is across the table and leaning across your plate. Empty plates are removed while people are still eating at the table.

Several serveurs walked past 2 forks on the floor which lay there for the evening in opposite corners of the restaurant. No one picked them up.

Food took ages to arrive and with 2 children at our table, I had the impression we were not welcome. If a place does not like children, then the serveurs should make sure they are served as fast as possible in order to free the table.

We ordered a 60 dollar bottle of wine and when we wanted another one, we were told it was the last one. Could the serveur not have told us this before we ordered the first one?

To finish off, the check arrived with Hampton prices and a crashing of plates and cutlery on the floor.

Had we not been 6 at the table I would have left a 1 cent tip.

So a great thank you to the chef but please get some staff worthy of your cuisine.
