You put up with a lot when you dine in the Hamptons -- crowded spaces, long waits, high prices, poor seasonal service -- but last night at the East Hampton Grill was a new low in dining experience. We had an 8:45 reservation and we stood for ONE HOUR waiting for a table. Talk about overbooking!!!! We were seated at 9:45 -- no apologies for the wait or offer to buy us a drink or dessert. The put us along the inside wall -- 3 people seated at a table for 2 so my friend was constantly being bumped by waiters, one of which said to him, "You're all right" after bumping him with dishes, instead of "I'm sorry!" The food is quite ordinary -- after all this is basically Houston's/Hillstone's (part of their chain) -- but the prices are anything but ordinary -- quite extraordinary even for the Hamptons! Hell, they even make you pay for bread! And to add insult to injury, the hot towels they brought me after my ribs actually scalded my hand. If you ask me, a must miss! Makes you wish Della Femina had never left!
