This Chowder House happened to be local to our hotel, so we went along not realising it was a bit of an institution. Their clam chowder was yum - liked even by the 'non-fish' fans in our party.

You want to love this place. Casual, reasonably priced for the location,no other place quite like it within miles. Great sounding name. But alas you will likely leave disappointed. The several years ago location on 3 Mile Harbor made up for mediocrity with stunning views. Here, the paper plates appropriate for dockside seafood, are an unwelcome shortcut. And we are not on a dock, the kitschy nautical interior seems somehow inauthentic. Nice accommodating waitress when we found a hair in our fried fish. Nice waiting area for restless kids, 45 minute wait on a Monday night in August suggests the place has its fans. A couple items did not disappoint -- perhaps the best French fries I've had this year. Otherwise preparations were rushed. Better choices can be found. Good manhattan chowder helped score the average rating above.

In the hustle and bustle of what is East Hampton in the summer, a wonderful refuge is Bostwicks. With a solid menu of seafood and other delights, preparation ranges from an oyster bar to fresh from the boat fish prepared your favorite way.

The ambiance is quaint, with a strong nautical boating / fishing theme, and a lovely garden patio. The service is friendly, efficient and it's clear there are many repeat customers as they are greeted by name.

Both my wife and I had the flounder while my son had the fish tacos. Food is delivered in picnic baskets giving the experience a decidely casual feel- but the food was well cooked, seasoned and delivered hot to the table.

Worth a stop to kick back, try a local beer or refuel!

We planned our daytrip to the Hamptons around a lunch stop at Bostwick's based on the TA reviews. We were not disappointed with the food or the table service. We enjoyed salads, but we really loved the New England clam chowder. It was hot, fresh, and full of chunky clams and potatoes in a fine creamy broth. And, for a treat, we both had soft serve swirls with chocolate sprinkles.

What could have been better? The hostess was rude to us. We asked for a table outside, but she told us we would need to wait 20 minutes for an empty table. (It is 2:30 on Monday afternoon!) She offered a high top table, but we declined due to my wife's height. She then rolled her eyes, and said she would clear a lower inside table for us. Immediately after we sat down, the next couple in the door was immediately seated. Where? OUTSIDE!

Great fresh seafood and tasty clam chowder. Nice character inside the restaurant and the outdoor eating area looked pleasant however the experience was rather spoilt for me by the use of paper plates, plastic cutlery and disposable glasses .
