We had five wonderful days at Kurumba Resort. We can't say enough about our stay. The staff did an outstanding job in every way, our accommodations on the beach were beautiful and the water was oh so nice! The food was very good and the service was first class. We could not have had a more perfect stay in this little bit of heaven!!!

Room Tip: If you want to be as close as you can be to the beach request a villa " on the beach" faci...

We stayed 5 nights & also celebrated our daughter's 21st birthday at the resort. It was evident from checkin to checkout that the staff wanted to ensure that we had a good time & we certainly did! Tq to all the staff that made our trip extra special...from the intermediate snorkeling trip to the sunset fishing to the dolphin cruise to the special birthday dinner, to decorating our daughter's bed with flowers etc...Tq for accommodating our requests & going out of the way for us. I recommend Kurumba highly.

Sell your house and everything you own then do a deal with Kurumba to live there for the rest of your days. I would but I can't see my family being too pleased about being turfed out on the street while I sunbathe and swim all day. Nice idea though.

On the upside is the setting which I suppose you could argue every other resort in the Maldives has, more or less. As you'd expect it's all very serene and laid back, the accommodation (beach chalet) very comfortable and with a selection of half a dozen or so restaurants and two bars. Which leads me to the only gripe about Kurumba which is the waiting staff at one or to of the restaurants. Communication isn't great and more than once we didn't get what we ordered or they were unable to answer our questions about the menus which, by the way, might possibly benefit from a few more items.

That said I didn't meet one, single member of staff in ten days that didn't smile and say hello even on the 'back stage' tour which is essential by the way if you're into de-salination plants, water processing, gardening and mulching.

There are several levels of 'all inclusive' some of which are more inclusive than others so look carefully before choosing. To be honest I think the buffet is good enough for breakfast and, if you want it, lunch. Lying around most of the day meant three meals a day would have been too much.

Dear Paul,

It was a pleasure to welcome you to Kurumba and we certainly appreciate your glowing review.

The back of house tours is something we have recently commenced with our guests and the feedback has been incredibly positive. Most guests are fascinated with what it takes to make a resort such as Kurumba Maldives operate. As you would have noticed, we are proud to have one of Maldives most comprehensive recycling centres.

The team are certainly the stars f the experience and having a friendly and guest focused team is an essential part of the Kurumba experience.

We do hope to welcome you back and again thank you.

As all the other reviews have said, don't come here if you're expecting absolute seclusion. It is a 10 min boat ride from the airport so you do see and hear planes daily and you see ships in the surrounding waters in most directions. We were aware of this before we came, so it didn't bother us too much. We chose Kurumba for it's facilities, restaurants and the price (being better than most that we could find in the Maldives).

My husband and I spent 5 nights in a deluxe room (more like a bungalow!) and we loved every minute. The staff are always smiling and welcoming and our room was clean and spacious. We loved the semi outdoor bathroom and big bathtub. The grounds are well maintained and the beaches are gorgeous with powder white sand and aqua clear waters. We did snorkelling in the house reef and saw plenty of tropical fish, eels, reef sharks and turtles. We also did 5 dives with Euro Divers (located on the island, but not part of the resort) and saw manta rays, eagle rays, Napoleon wrasse, moray eels, reef sharks and turtles.

After doing research on the Kurumba website (all the menus and prices are there) and doing the sums, we chose the bed and breakfast meal plan. We are not big eaters or drinkers, so this meal plan made the most sense for us. Other than the breakfast buffet at the main restaurant, we ate at the Chinese restaurant, Middle Eastern restaurant, Italian restaurant, Ocean Grill, Kurumba Cafe and we ordered room service. We enjoyed the flexibility and variety and it ended up being cheaper than the meal plans. For lunch, dinner and beverages for 2 people for 5 days, we paid around US$820 inclusive of service charge and taxes. The food was pretty good, although unfortunately nothing really blew us away. Food is expensive, which I guess is because the Maldives imports most foods, everything has to be shipped to the island and you are on a luxury resort paying 18% taxes!

This resort is very child friendly. There were lots of families with young children and the protected beaches, pool, kids club, games room and tennis/basketball courts made me understand why they come here.

If you want a totally secluded island getaway, this is not the place for you. However, if you have children or you want a resort with good facilities, friendly staff and pretty beaches with nice snorkelling, come here!

Dear youngbutwise,

We appreciate you taking the time to complete your review and are glad that you had a wonderful time. I have to agree, for a couple the deluxe rooms offer great value and the area has a great section of beach and just off one of the more active parts of our house reef. The area tends to be more of an adults area as the deluxe rooms are set up for couples. We are also trying to maintain a good balance within the resort between families and couples and have taken your feedback on board.

Thank you for your feedback regarding the food and we are always looking to deliver a very good product and better pricing than our competitors. The food in the Maldives is higher than in mainland destinations as the majority of food is imported and air freighted. (except for fish and coconuts)

We are glad that you enjoyed the beaches and an advantage of having our sea walls is the our beaches are stable year round and rarely suffer from erosion in different seasons.

Again, thank you for the review and we do hope to welcome you back to Kurumba Maldives.

We traveled a long way to The Maldives. Upon landing, we were escorted to our boat to be taken to the Kurumba Resort. Once on board, we were quickly given bottles of cold water and wet towels in order to freshen up. After we disembarked at the resort, we were seated while their representative checked us in. We were given coconut ice cream(Kurumba means coconut)while check-in was being accomplished.
Our room faced the water which was very close by. We rented snorkeling equipment(no charge)for our stay and enjoyed snorkeling in these beautiful waters. Every afternoon, a hotel employee would amble through with fresh fruit or would make lovely creations from palm leaves.
We enjoyed a great champagne breakfast every morning. We dined at various resort restaurants in the evenings. Our first evening we were seated at table near the window overlooking the water. Our table had a beautiful orchid centerpiece. We noticed it was more elaborate than other tables. At the end of our dinner, they brought out a cake for my birthday. My daughter had made the reservation at the resort and they had asked if there was any special occasion. She mentioned that my birthday would occur a few days before our arrival. When we returned to our room after dinner, the bed was adorned for my birthday as well.
We were treated very well during our stay. It was relaxing and beautiful.
This is not an inexpensive place to stay but very special indeed.
One night after an overnight wind/rainstorm, we were treated to luminescent waters. The waves were lit up. Even the sand crabs meandered around as though they were wearing little flashlights on their backs. A most unusual occurrence for us.
My daughter and I used the spa. It was most relaxing.

Room Tip: Having a room near the water is a plus.

Dear Grace,

Thank you for your kind words and recognising many of the small and unique touches of Kurumba Maldives. I can certainly agree with you that a glass of champagne in the morning is a great way to star they day. It is also a nice additional benefits of holidaying in one of the pool villas.

You are very lucky to se the phosphorescence on the beach and these glowing algae are really quite spectacular on an evening if you are lucky enough to be here when this occurs.

The gardens are a unique feature of Kurumba and we are very proud of how many different species of plants and orchards we have throughout the resort.

Again, thank you for the positive review and we do hope to welcome you back at some stage in the future.

Warm regards,
Jason

This is our third trip to the Maldives and as it was a short trip decided to find a resort which was close to the airport. Only 10 minutes by boat. From start to finish we experienced a very well run first class experience. Starting with the boat which unlike other experiences was very luxurious shared only with other guests not as in a previous experience with another resort more like a ferry with lots of passengers who also worked on the island. Check in was quick and we were thrilled to be allowed to check in quite early to our room. We chose a garden villa which was perfect for us and our older daughter - like having two bedrooms so we got our privacy! There was a small plunge pool in the garden area which was well used during our trip!

We came to rest and do some snorkeling, I don't like going out to far so stayed mostly around the beach and there was some varied species there including very small reef sharks but my husband and daughter got to see a huge variety just beyond the breakwater, bigger sharks and a huge variety of fish.

We took the all inclusive (not dine around) and found this totally adequate. The food was not the same buffet all the time but varied and more than enough. Our room allowed us to eat breakfast at the Ocean Grill and one morning over our champagne breakfast we were treated to the sight of a group of dolphins around the breakwater.

We didn't take any excursions but enjoyed the bars in the evenings. One special favourite was the Sand Bar where we went each evening to watch the sunset over a few cocktails. The bar was staffed by very knowledgeable and chatty waiters - a special mention to Priyankara must be made as he often made us his own "off the menu" cocktails.

A brilliant holiday all in all - will definitely be going back!

Room Tip: Garden villa - great for families who want a little 'separation' at times!
