“Terrible Service, Terrible Sleep”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 March 2014

We had such poor service. We tried to extend our stay by one night and were told that this was possible. When we did not receive a new confirmation within two days, we called to ensure everything was in place. Apparently, the owner of the unit was staying there so they gave us another room. We were told that we would have to check out at 10 am and then not be able to check back in until 4 pm. We would then be checked into the new room. This was very disappointing as the main reason to pay the higher price was to have access to our room.
Upon arriving we discovered that the sofa bed was broken, so the head of the bed was on a steep incline. Someone came to fix it, but as we were sleeping it broke again and the people sleeping on it had their heads crash. We called down at midnight...we were told that we could wake the rest of our family up and move to a new room. However, there were ongoing problems with these beds and they couldn't guarantee that this bed wouldn't have the same problem. Apparently, they are in the process of fixing the beds. We asked to have someone fix it. No one was there to do so. We asked for the tools so we could fix it. We couldn't have them. We asked for a mattress to sleep on the floor. There wasn't one. We asked if the people who were still asleep could stay on the murphy bed and the other two people move to the room with the other murphy bed. We could do this for an additional $300. We folded up the broken bed and were left to sleep on the floor. When we asked if we could have a later check out, we were told that the manager would get back to us in the morning. This didn't help at all...the point was to try and have a little extra sleep after being up until one in the morning fixing the bed!
In the morning, the manager was simply rude. He told us that he had been called at midnight to help solve the problem, so he was tired. Hum, at least he didn't have to pay $300. He also proceeded to tell us that this was a maintenance issue, not his issue. He allowed us an extra hour four check out, but it did little to help solve the problems with the terrible night. We decided not to stay at the resort for the rest of our stay. We moved down the road where we had a wonderful stay!
The skiing at this resort is AMAZING, but we will never stay here again.

Our family of 5 stayed 2 nights during President's Week and enjoyed the close proximity to 3 lifts with ski valet service. It was more expensive than the Westin at Blue Mountain as we needed 2 rooms at $300 each but it was nice to keep our teens in their own space. On arrival at 1 pm, both rooms were ready and there was space in the underground parking garage. Our room had a nice view of the ski hill and was modern and clean. We got a great discount on lift tickets by purchasing them at the hotel desk and 2 boys skiied free for 3 days. The lift ticket deal does not start until 2:30 so just as well that we did not get there too early. Lift lines were very short, the runs were long and with 5 terrain parks, our boarders were in heaven.

Dinner was at John Harvards Brew Pub in the hotel both nights and it was convenient to put our name in and be phoned in our room when our table was ready. The atmosphere was relaxing and the view of the hill was spectacular. Highly recommend the pizza, the beer samplers, appetizers with big portions.

The indoor/outdoor pool was a little disappointing as the indoor portion is little more than stairs into the pool and could have been a little warmer. The hot tubs were good but could get pretty crowded.

We had cereal and milk in our room for breakfast each day as there is no breakfast place inside the hotel but had a fridge so we saved a little cash. There is a Tops grocery store close by in town where we stocked up. Checkout is 10 am with no late checkout allowed so was a little tough to wake the teens.

Overall, the skiing was great and the location perfect for our family ski trip.

Room Tip: top floor with slopeside view

The Tamarack Club is a wonderful place to stay in Ellicottville, They have the friendliest staff out of anywhere I have been and large room with great amenities and the service is exceptional. Upon arrival we had a seamless check-in, our room was not yet ready so we hit the hill straight away. once we returned from the hill we were able to hand our equipment over to their storage room as soon as you enter. When we got back to our room the valet guy, Duke, had placed all of our luggage into the room nicely and even put our groceries and beer in the fridge without being asked! We went into the relaxing hot tub for a bit before hitting the hill a second time, on the second time out I had banged up my knee pretty badly and was not able to go the following day because of it. We were worried because we had paid for 2 days up front for the lift tickets as well as equipment rental for myself. The hotel ended up refunding the day we weren't able to take advantage of due to my knee and I even got comped an equipment rental for next time. This was exceptional customer service and because of this, we will be returning.

Another great perk is they take Canadian currency @ par! Overall it was a great stay at Tamarack Club :)

While staying at Tamarack Club in February, we received excellent customer service from Joe and Shawn who brought us plastic cups to drink from in the hot tub (as we were drinking out of glass and shouldn't be I'm pool area). Thank you!!

On the other hand, very slow service from John Harvard's for brunch Sunday, as if they weren't prepared for a crowd at that time. (Greater than 10 mins to come to table to say hello).

As soon as we walked into the Tamarack Club after a 4 1/2 hour drive from PA, my husband and I were greeted by a friendly male employee who welcomed us to the hotel and directed us to the check-in desk. I was immediately impressed by how nice and sincere all of the employees seemed, plus the fireplace/bookshelf in the "great room" is super cute.

Our room was clean, comfortable, and spacious. It was everything we expected it to be and more because in addition to said room, we basically had immediate access to the slopes simply by walking out the door (I guess a more appropriate phrase would be ski in/ski out). Anyway, in terms of amenities, the Tamarack Club has a warm indoor/outdoor pool and two outdoor hot tubs. This was a lovely way to unwind after two days spent tearing up the slopes :) What's more, I'm convinced that everyone in Ellicottville--from the employees to the tourists--are some of the nicest people I've ever met. Seriously.

I would GLADLY stay at the Tamarack Club again. Though I'm told that it can get quite expensive on the weekends, we paid a reasonable price for a Thursday night, and couldn't have been more happy with our stay. It was truly a memorable first visit to Ellicottville, NY.

Decided on Holiday Valley for our holiday ski vacation and booked only about 6 weeks prior to the date. Many places were booked but we were lucky enough to get Tamarack Club's last open 1 bedroom which slept 6. The price was high but for the convenience of the ski in/ski out amenity, outdoor pool and spa, ski check valet and John Harvard's brew house, we felt is was worth the extra cost for this occasion. Our one bedroom, mountain view room with a full kitchen was adequate for the 5 of us aged 18 to 50. The room is advertised as sleeping for 6. We could have used more space but made the situation work by rearranging some of the furniture in the room. The 1 bedroom suites have a pull out queen couch and double Murphy bed wall system that are in the family room area, off the kitchen along with an additional separate bedroom with a queen bed. The mattresses are adequate for sleep but not the most comfortable. The kitchen table has to be moved to accommodate the wall bed if you are going to use it. There is not a lot of space in the kitchen for the table so the table can only be moved to the entry area which then can be used for the ski gear such as hats, gloves, goggles etc.....The kitchen does have an island with two tall benches. For 5 adults, the room is on the smaller side. If you have young children it may work better but not much room for moving around. There is one large bathroom and it is lacking storage if you plan to have 5 or 6 people share this room. There should be more hooks and another counter. There is a closet in the kitchen which can be used for storage and hooks in the entrance area.
The Tamarack club as a whole is clean, nicely decorated, the staff (front desk, housekeeping, valet and restaurant) is very friendly and accommodating to your needs. The only areas that need more supervision would be the pool/spa area. There can be many young children running around unsupervised from pool to spa. However, on very busy days this could be hard to police! The pool, spa and sauna are very nice amenities especially after skiing. There is also a small fitness center near the pool and equipment was in good working order.
Coffee and tea is provided in the lobby every morning. This is very popular with the guests and could be attended to more frequently as it runs out quickly. Both mornings I went to get hot water for my tea, the urn was empty. (Maybe a larger hot water holder would work better!) There is a cafe next door which offers breakfast and lunch items. John Harvard's Brew house is on the 2nd floor and a nice option for lunch and dinner if you do not want to venture into town. Ellicottville is only 5 minutes from the Tamarack Club. The resort is a nice option and we were happy with our choice of stay. It certainly is a great option if you want the convenience of being near the slopes.

Room Tip: Elevators can be slow so choose a room (floor 3,4,5,6) that you can use the stairs.

Made a reservation for one night and paid for the stay in full (as required). Shortly after I received confirmation, an employee of the hotel called to tell me that my reservation was cancelled as the room was being held for "paying guests" in case of an emergency. While most legitimate hotels would have a walk policy in the event of an emergency, I let it go until I checked my bank account and realized that my payment had already been processed in full. The employee blamed the error on an internal issue and only suggested that I call my credit card company and ask them to expedite the refund, which meant spending my own time getting money back that they never should have taken. Rather than acknowledging the inconvenience they caused and offering appropriate apologies, I was treated quite rudely and left without a solution. Clearly this is a hotel that lacks professionalism and proper protocol. While my experience was certainly a worst case scenario, I would not recommend taking the risk of this hassle.
