“Unique Pleasant Beach Hotel”

What a gem !!! We have traveled to this area many times in the past 40 years and just found this hidden treasure in Fair Haven, NY. At our age, this is just what we want for a week of R & R.
Have always wanted to be catered to, and the "personal chef experience" did the trick. H and Bonnie provided memories that will last many years. After the breakfast at PB, the lunch at Hardware Cafe was another "treat" you will want to experience. O'Conners is not to be missed either. For the money, Fair Haven, NY is one of the best deals out there.

Stayed an early September Saturday night this weekend and found the property to be clean, neat, and just the right amount of casual. My spouse and I enjoyed the ability to go with the local flow, instead of a predictable chain experience. Lakeside cottage themed rooms with comfy beds, tasteful antiques, and quite the nice sunset.

Fair Haven Beach park is a moderate distance walk through quiet neighborhoods and Lake Ontario shore scenery.

If you need to make demands or need the staff or owner to flex to your personal interests, go with a chain. PHB is better suited for a flexible adult traveler. We have high expectations for cleanliness and they were well met. Breakfast was served very well and just the right amount. We are eager to return.

Room Tip: Room 6 has windows on 3 sides and gives you a bright and airy experience. We liked that very much...

I was infatuated with staying at this hotel. I stumbled upon it online while looking for a nice place to stay while near Sterling for the Renaissance Festival. There were TONS of reviews about how wonderful and beautiful and cozy this hotel was. The photos were beautiful. I could not WAIT and was pleased to find out when I called there was still a room available the weekend we would stay. I spoke with Bonnie directly about having a 1 year old with us, and she assured me they would hold a room that was big enough for his playpen since its usually a first come first serve type situation. Knowing this, we decided to arrive before check in to ensure we would have first pick of the room, as this can make or break a trip with a baby. When we drove up it was stunning. The view was amazing. The hotel was unique. We arrived a little bit before they opened for lunch. No big deal to us, we walked down the docks. Then over to the Fly by cookie company. (Interesting stop, but is literally one small room, cookies were yummy but not Oh-My-God DELICIOUS) We came back for lunch, and enjoyed some very good food. Bonnie made sure to remind us check in was not until 3pm, at which point I let her know my concerns about the size of the room and the baby. We drove out to Sterling to kill some time. We arrived back about 2:30ish, so decided to look around the hotel at all there was to see on the bottom floor. I am not sure why, but this stressed Bonnie out. She was almost panicked, saying check in was at 3, we could NOT go up sooner (not that we even asked...) and when a second couple arrived and wanted to check in she became even more stressed. They did not understand this either. They told us they had been before, and this had never occurred. When we finally could go pick out our rooms, we choose room 1 with the corner view and enough room for the playpen. This room is also right next to the stairs. Here is the truth about the rooms, as I looked into all of them. They are very cute. Very different. There are plenty of blankets and towels, all smelled fresh and clean. The rooms have central air along with ceiling fans. Each room is decorated differently with antiques accenting each. The bathrooms are black and white tile with a stand up shower. Nothing fancy, but it was nice to have a private bath for each room. Not all rooms have a view. This is where their website is misleading. Room 1 has three windows with a view, and from what I could tell, the other rooms had 1-2 windows, and only 2 had partial views of the water. One was clearly facing the parking lot. The rooms are different sizes, have different sized Sleep Number Beds, some have chairs, some have a dresser. One has an extra bed. Once in the room, we began to baby proof. This is where I noticed how dirty they actually are. I was on my hands and knees to make sure everything would be safe for a toddler and all corners, under beds and sink, shelves and along the walls were extremely dusty. Think months and months of dust. We could not open our windows to enjoy the breeze because the screens were broken with tons of dead insects up against the windows. We also soon found that our sink would not drain. But over all, it was a beautiful room. Room will cost you $155 a night. You can NOT beat the views. (At least from our room) We checked out the village and returned for dinner. AMAZING food. We pretty much ate crab cakes the entire time. The special sauce is also fantastic. Dinner entree's are between $18-$22. The first night our little one was fussy at dinner, and being Friday night, the place was packed. We asked if we could have our dinner upstairs in our room, they offered to bring it up. We did not want to be the family ruining everyone's dinner with a crying infant. Oddly, instead of knocking, they left our dinner on the floor outside the room. Had my husband not stepped out to grab a cup off the coffee cart in the hall, we would have never known it was there. It was wonderful they brought it up, but strange to leave it on the floor. Again, dinner was amazing. We got the baby to sleep around 8:30pm, and we knew the downstairs closed at 9pm. Shower was hot and relaxing. However, the downstairs is VERY loud. Even after they closed, just cleaning up and closing the bar was extremely loud well into 10pm. The stairs leading upstairs to the rooms is also very noisy, which effected about three rooms. (We chatted with a few of the other guests). Once it closed down however, and everyone came in from the secluded balcony the guests share, it was quiet. Until the owners went to bed, which is above the hotel rooms in the attic area. You can definitely hear them moving around up there. All noise was gone at around 11-12am. Coffee is brought up to the cart in the hall at 7:30am. Complimentary breakfast is served from 8:30-10am. This is made by H and Bonnie themselves, and does not disappoint. You have your choice of bacon and eggs with hash browns and toast, or pancakes or french toast. Very tasty, and again, you can not beat the views of sunrise over the water while eating. I will point out that Bonnie did not seem exactly pleased when we asked for a pancake and blueberries for the baby to eat. After a day out at the Ren. Festival we came back to fresh towels however everything else was left untouched. Dinner was again fabulous, and we had the option of putting the total on our room bill, which was nice. Saturday night was much noisier than Friday, and again took until about 12am to finally settle down enough to sleep. Overall we enjoyed ourselves, but did not feel it warranted the price tag. We felt the rooms could have been cleaner, and that the noise level was much more than the reviews and website will have you believe. The view IS beautiful. The balcony was nice, especially with the hammock, but the furniture was mildewed and they had a wasp issue. Bonnie seemed awkward, which made us uncomfortable whenever we interacted with her. We may return to this hotel again in the future during the week, when the rates are more reasonable for the accommodations.

Room Tip: Get there early, it is first come first serve. If you want the best view, room 1 will not disappoint...

I drove up to Fair Haven last night with a friend to catch the sunset and have dinner on the water. The best place to do this is Pleasant Beach Hotel. It had been a very hot humid uncomfortable day at home and we had hoped to find some relief from that.

The light on the water was just perfect for a photo shoot that my friend wanted to do. The sunset did not disappoint us and neither did the dinner.

We ordered the salmon and the haddock dinners which included two side dishes. We choose the salad bar and garlic smashed potatoes . The wait staff was great and the food very good.

We both said we would be back.

I loved this place. More like a B & B than a hotel, but it has kept the 100 year old name, "Pleasant Beach Hotel". If you appreciate history, you will find the "junktique" style of decorating very interesting. We were shocked by the "made to order" breakfast after having continental breakfast in every other place we stayed. Hospitality, character and nostalgia. Was just looking for a place to stay, but this really a "destination", not just a room. Didn't want to leave!

If you are looking for snooty, uptight or pretentious, this is NOT for you! The Pleasant Beach Hotel is a hidden jewel, complete with unmatched views of the lake, exceptional food and drink and a staff that makes you right at home. The second floor wrap-around balcony has comfy chairs and a great hammock that make the perfect place to enjoy a cup of coffee and watch the activity on the bay. The owners fix you the best breakfast you will ever have, and it is served in a cozy dining room or out on the lakefront deck. Little Sodus Bay is great for boating and there is deep water dock space available. We found excellent shopping in nearby Skaneatles, cute stores downtown, a wonderful state park... When you are ready to eat, don't miss the stuffed shrimp! Our waiter, Michael, brings his macaw to sit on the deck. This is a beautiful, friendly, happy place and we cannot wizt to return! The rooms are super comfy and each is uniquely furnished the owner's collection of antiques. Sleep number beds and fresh coffee in the hall makes for an excellent morning.Thank you, Bonnie and H, and your amazing staff-you are the most excellent of hosts!

Room Tip: All of the rooms are different. The owners very thoughtfully provide a toy chest for the kids and w...
