It is a great location overlooking the canal. The outside deck is perfect to watch the boats go by as you eat. The rental tables and chairs outside took away from the atmosphere somewhat. The combo soup, salad and entree for $18 was a great deal and left enough food for lunch the next day.

We have eaten at Joey B's several times at different times of the year. There is a beautiful covered Patio/Deck to eat on in the good weather. The dining room is usually cold(especially by the windows) and it is noisy. But the View right over the canal is beautiful. Bundle up. The menu has it's normal staple items and even they are included in the Prix Frixe special(Great Value). The Wine list is good. The Desserts are Good as well. The scalloped potatoes side dish is excellent. The portions are ample. It is always a good dinner when we have gone there. The menu is not overly extensive for someone who doesn't eat seafood of any sort. There are variety game meats as well.
The biggest negative is the boring, tasteless "vegetable" side dish that comes with almost every entree'. I do have culinary training and feel this is a sorry excuse for a vegetable. It is shredded zucchini that is steamed and then red pepper strips are plopped on top of the mound of bland zucchini. I wish they would at least offer Broccoli,beans,carrots.. something more tasteful and a real vegetable. This bland, tasteless zucchini has been a staple side dish for a few years at least. Change it up, it takes away from the rest of the delicious food.
Service has been iffy at times but mostly adequate for us.

We stopped by accident at Joey B's because the other local restaurants were either too crowded or not what we wanted one evening as we wandered through Fairport Village. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of our experience. While we waited for our table, we noticed someone coming in for take-out. They had ordered only one thing--the French onion soup. I thought that was interesting and so I ordered it. It was superb. Also, the service was very good. Initially it was a bit loud, but quieted down as people began to leave. We had two draft beers which were craft brews and we excellent. Our food was very good and of course, the scenic view out the windows onto the Erie Canal was lovely.

Went with a group of 10 people for dinner. All of the food was delicious. We were canalside, which was great. The drawback is that it is a very noisy place, so I could only chat with those immediately next to me.

We had high hopes from recommendations from friends and other reviews. They do provide gluten free meals on request, but their idea of how to do this is to take away from the dish, rather than being creative with substitutions [sort of like the early days of gluten free dining]. For example, we both had pan seared cod. The GF portion was apparently baked or microwaved with no sauce or other seasoning. The regular portion had a thick crust rather than a thin encrustation. It was served with a salsa which was OK but not that imaginative.

However, they did have an excellent wildberry sorbet.
