“one of my favorite attractions on LI”
Reviewed 19 April 2014

I brought my 6 yr old nephew to the lighthouse. He enjoyed every minute of it. From the walk on the boardwalk to the lighthouse, the 160 steps , the beautiful view and the friendly people that work there. I definitely recommend it!

“Long Walk - but lovely”
Reviewed 22 January 2014

I visited quite some time ago, but Feb 2013 is as far back as it would allow me to go.

I was unprepared for the long walk to the Lighthouse. In retrospect, it wasn't that long or bad of a walk, but we were trying to make it in time for our tour appointment and had not realized the parking lots were sooo far away. All in all it was a lovely attraction, with a quaint little gift shop and museum downstairs..

The climb up the winding stair case to the top is worth the breathtaking views. Even managed to get engaged at the top.. Didn't see that coming!

“Hurricane Sandy changes the atmosphere at the lighthouse”
Reviewed 18 November 2013

This has always been a favorite walk for me when I am in that area. However, Hurricane Sandy has changed a lot of the environment around the lighthouse. The dunes on the ocean side are pretty much gone along with the pines and beach roses and the other flora. And the board walk is not yet been replaced up near the light house. However, the beach is still marvelous and if you like the sea shore, you will enjoy this walk very much. The light house now has a museum in a separate building which actually gets in the way photographically speaking. But has a lot of interesting facts and physics about light houses.

It is obvious that another hurricane the type of Sandy is going to do some damage now due to the loss of the dunes. The State of NY has done a great job trying to move enough sand around to replace some of the beach that was lost on Fire Island but you can't replace mother Nature.

A good place for a family visit. Kids will enjoy the beach and the museum.

“A long walk to see the lighthouse but worth it”
Reviewed 2 September 2013

You will have to drive across the causeway from Southshore Long Island to the Robert Moses Beach to field 5. There you will park your car and proceed to the boardwalk on the side of the parking lot. Since Hurricane Sandy took half the boardwalk, you will find yourself walking on the sandy road to reach the lighthouse.
But once you are there, you can look at the beautiful view of the lighthouse. Go inside to look at the giftshop or use the bathroom.
For me, I will continue to walk down a very sandy road to Kismet, the first town you will get to on Fire Island.

“another great lighthouse”
Reviewed 26 August 2013

Another lighthouse with knowledgeable staff/volunteers. The lighthouse itself was going through restoration so we couldnt tour it but the rest of the place was open. It was about a mile to walk to the lighthouse but it was a beautiful day and enjoyed the walk.
