My family and I have dined at Portofino for more years than I can remember. We celebrated birthdays, anniversaries, my retirement, my daughter's graduation with her Master's Degree, etc. We had the buffet brunch on Sunday for that celebration. The food is always very good and the service is wonderful. The owner always greets us with a hug whenever we are present. I recommend Portofino very highly.

I have lived in Forest Hills for almost 10 years but have known Portofino since the 90's. i must confessed, however, that I did not think much about it for the longest (have not eaten there in many years) until a friend told me a few days ago that Portofino was "the only good restaurant in Forest Hiils". I believed him and went back tonight. What a disapoitment! the service started quite nice and attentive, but it simply deteriorated by the minute. The dishes were a disaster: A Salad without dressing (8 minutes to get the dressing after served), an Eggplant Roletini that was so intense in cheese, and so cold that you could have done better by buying it in a frozen box at the local supermarket; a side dish of Linguini white clam sauce over cooked and equally cold. The glasses of wine and a cocktail remained empty on the table, even after a second round was requested and no one ever approached the table to refill either drinks or water. The "italian cheese cake" was so frozen and tasteless that, again, a trip to the supermarket would have produce fresher results.

The overall service was extremely slow, yet when I asked for the checked, the waiter was so prompt that did not even bother asking if we needed anything else. In fact, he did not even clear the dirty glasses and dishes prior to presenting the check, until I ask him to do so.

Why bother going to a local restaurant in a traditional neighborhood when the quality of the service and food is so impersonal that you feel you don't belong there and you should have stayed home eating a microwaved box of lean cuisine?

This restaurant was an amazing representation of Forest Hills traditions. It has become, however, an expensive fast food venue.

Skip it all together for your personal health and sense of good taste are important to you.

To satisfy an Italian Crave on Tuesdays this corner Restaurant offers a family style buffet with all the fixin's you would want. From 6 til closing you can enjoy the buffet which is followed by a delicious dessert and coffee. In this part of Queens it's tough to find a good Italian spot. The service was great and very comfortable..

Head waiter George runs a fine ship here. Drinks are good size and house wines above average. Food is very good, and fish is fresh. Prices are reasonable but specials can run up the bill so don't be afraid to ask "How much?". Noiise level quite low. Valet parking a plus.
