Just returned from our second stay at the Inn in two years. My son and our dog were along for the trip, as we were visiting my daughter at Stagedoor Manor, a theater camp 30 miles away. The Inn is charming and rustic, with many outdoor activities that can take the edge off of 8 hours spent at a wonderful theater camp (if you know what I mean.) No drama, just peace and quiet, lots of trails to hike, bikes to ride, trips around the lake in the kayak. Breakfasts are generous and very good - the innkeepers keep a stocked pantry for lunch and snacks all day, and the evening campfire with s'mores is a hospitable touch.

If you like the idea of camping, but can't imagine "roughing it" without deluxe bathroom amenities or luxurious sheets, this is the Inn for you!

Also: my eighteen year old son commented that "everyone he meets, smiles." A good time was had by all.

My husband and I come here to spend some time away from NYC.

We love this place. It is clean, the staff is friendly and they don't bother anyone with questions.

Last stay was at the Tudor room (I hope I am spelling it right). The room had 2 floors and the whirlpool tub was on the second floor, perfect for relaxing and looking at the snow.. simply beautiful.

They also have food in the main building at all times, so you can go and make a sandwich or have a muffin or whatever.

There is a swimming pool in the summer time. They also have a pool table and several games in the main building which can keep you entertained.

I don't see why anyone would say anything bad about this place.

My wife and I just got back from a two night stay and boy did we enjoy ourselves! The breakfast every morning truly was enjoyable, whether eggs or whatever else they had to offer. We spent most of our time relaxing by the pool which is what we prefer to do on our vacations. The "Deli fridge" was a nice touch for us as we only wanted sandwiches for lunch and it was nice to have something simple available.

We stayed at this inn in July and it met all of our expectations! It was just what we needed a place to get away from it all! We were able to truly relax, enjoy the other guest, enjoy the staff and inn owners. Our room was kept in tip top shape, and was like a spa experience....the linens were wonderful too... The staff was excellent and very courteous. We were able to partake in the various amenities they offered. We will return...we wish we knew of this place sooner....but, now we know.... a must stay if you want to get away from it all and have some calm and peaceful moments. The lake was wonderful too....we had a chance to row boat and it was serene and we saw a young bald eagle fly overhead...nature at its best!

Room Tip: We enjoyed the Kingfisher room, it has a wonderful spa tub with a view to the back of the home. We a...

We will not be going back. This property is TIRED! I booked 4 nights for my husband, myself and our dog. I based my decision on the reviews, the video, and Fodor's. The video fails to show the asphalt road we had to cross to get to the Lake, the worn furniture, pool deck with splintered wood, and geese droppings everywhere on the Lake shore. Fodor's should come back out - this probably is the best out of the 2 Hotels, but not up to basic standards of cleanliness. The housekeeping consisted of making the bed, changing it once, and fresh towels. They never cleaned or vacuumed. The windows were dirty, cobwebs everywhere, and a stained rug. Our air conditiioner had mold in it, our refridgerator was missing the freezer door. I spent an entire day defrosting it with pans of hot water because it was so frozen over it wasn't cooling properly. I even left the cardboard door I made because I didn't want the next guest to go through what I did. We stayed only because we had our dog and the surrounding area was economically depressed with no other alternatives. I have never written a review before, but I feel strongly enough to warn people. I spent a lot of money and used my precious vacation time on something that was not worth it.

ivan066, Owner at Inn at Lake Joseph, responded to this review, 8 August 2012
We are sorry that this guest was disappointed with her stay and we would like to respond to a few of her issues. The walk to the lake through the forest takes about 4 minute. The access to the trail crosses about 25 feet of a rarely used back access path to the inn. We are not aware of the warn furniture. We think she may be referring to the designed rustic patina distressed look and feel of many of our furnishings. Although it took almost an hour of careful inspection, we did discovered one of the boards near the entrance of the pool that was splintered which has since been repaired. We thank the guest for pointing this out.

Unless requested to change linens daily, they are changed every third night of the stay which is a standard of better lodgings. Our records show the room was cleaned and vacuumed and a note on the daily housekeeping report indicated bird droppings on two skylight windows which since have been removed. After reading this guest review we inspected the air conditioner and no mold was found. The kitchenette has a small under the counter refrigerator with a small freezer which required defrosting. The housekeeper set the dial on defrost. We are sorry this guest spent an entire day defrosting the freezer. If we had been notified of the problem our maintenance department would have deforested the freezer in about 15 minutes. Because the Inn is located in the middle of a pristine wildlife forest, cobwebs that occasionally appear are removed and occasionally reappear within hours. When guests check in we tell them to let us know of any requests they may have to make their stay more enjoyable or problems they may be experiencing.

We would like to leave the reader with this thought: Although no destination is perfect, we have earned the reputation of being responsive to our guests’ needs and requests, in addition to offering one of the most desirable getaway destinations in New York State. For almost 30 years, this reputation has been reflected in dozens if not hundreds of impartial guest reviews, as well as many articles by experienced professional travel writers throughout the country. Again, we’re sorry these guests were disappointed, but perhaps they might consider a second visit to experience what we are really all about.

We intended to stay at then Inn for 2 days and then travel up north for 2 more days to celebrate our 25th anniversary. Well, we enjoyed our stay so much we stayed at the Inn at Lake Joseph the entire time. The house is from the 1800's and the architecture is so unique and interesting. The abundant breakfast was very good and it was so nice to have a light lunch and snacks available whenever we wanted them. At the inn,we went kayaking every day, enjoyed the heated pool, badminton, ping pong, billiards, bike riding and the firepit which was all provided by the inn. We did go hiking a few miles away to see a waterfalls and enjoyed that as well. We stayed in the cardinal room and loved sleeping with the window open with the cool breeze -the weather on the hill there was wonderful (even in June). It was the perfect place to relax and refresh our spirits. Ivan was nice and we enjoyed sitting down and having breakfast with him on occasion. You can tell they love the history of the place and enjoy sharing their inn with others. Thank you so much. Glad we got the mugs to remember our special time. :)

Room Tip: It is nice to have a room with a balcony so you can enjoy private reading or napping in the wonderfu...

We arrived at this Inn after staying at another Inn for three days up in Vermont and we're hoping it was going to be so much better than what we had been at. IT WAS!!! You drive up it's long driveway to this beautiful old home which sits atop of a hill that is breathtaking! Our suite was a perfect 10!!! Spacious, clean, nice balcony, private from the rest of the house and a large bathroom!! The bed so comfortable with adjustable sides for firmness for each sleeper. Sheets to die for!! So comfortable! The house is amazing with antiques and charm. They supply an open lunch/fruit/cookies all day and drinks as well. The breakfast was delicious, too! My favorite was the blueberry pancakes and my husband loved them and the omelet's. They provide bikes, kayaks, canoes, walking trails to a large quiet lake and not to mention a pool which was heated! Our suite was so clean and the air so fresh!! Debbie who we met was so helpful there supply us with wine buckets, ice, any need we had. We had a great fireplace in our suite that we had going on each night and the TV had so many stations on it along with music that we would listen to outside on our balcony having our wine each night. A great jacuzzi in suite, too!! This is a perfect place to come to when you need relaxation and away from it all!!! We did drive up the scenic route along the Delaware River which was great and not to be missed! Our favorite dinner places were The Homestead and Willey's. We will definitely be back here as it was extremely enjoyable and the innkeeper Ivan and Debbie were great! Their are so many activities to do in the area so stop in at this Inn and stay.
A special thank you to Debbie for all her help!!

The Inn, with working fireplaces, whirlpool baths and private sundecks, is located in Upstate New York on a 250-acre private lake. Like resort lodging, Inn at Lake Joseph provides a variety of summer and winter recreational facilities, including access to a health and fitness spa.
