As a family of seven adults and a dog, this inn turned out to be an outstanding setting for an intimate outdoors style weekend get together. With ALL the comforts of a first class resort, we went boating and fishing on the beautiful, peaceful Lake Joseph....with our dog, of course. We biked, hiked, played badminton, swam in the pool, and played board games and billiards. We ended our days around 1:00am at the fire pit, telling stories and roasting marshmallows.( And yes, even the marshmallows and sticks were provided.)

The inn was packed, but we felt like we were one of the few guests. The guests we did see were friendly and their dogs were well trained/supervised. The staff was wonderful, each and every one of them- what a fine spirited group. We could always get what we wanted, right down to an impromptu birthday celebration.

Three more things: . 1, the rooms are really nice and well equipped, 2. the food is homemade and breakfasts are made to order, 3. snacks and beverages are always available.

I don't know where else you'd find such a wonderful pet friendly get away two hours from NYC

My partner and I stayed at the Inn at Lake Joseph in December of 2012. We couldn't wait to arrive there after viewing the spectacular pictures and video prior to making our reservation. When we drove up the driveway toward the Lodge, we were simply awestruck and very impressed. After parking our car, we proceeded into the Lodge and perused the beautiful artwork, decorations and overall wonderful architecture of this Grande Inn. We were then greeted by a very friendly and welcoming woman named Michelle. She made us feel at home and very special. The Inn was very clean, beautiful and warm...what a wonderful "gift" on a cold December day after having such a long and challenging Fall following the toll that Hurricane Sandy left on us...this Inn and its surroundings felt like a slice of Heaven. After Michelle checked us in, she then showed us around the Lodge and explained very thoroughly where we would come for breakfast, where we could find afternoon snacks, etc. and gave us a map to our room in the Carriage House (we stayed in the Dogwood) and then provided us with a map to the beach/lake area from the Inn. She also provided us with area maps, dining options, etc. We were all set!! We then proceeded to our room in the Carriage House. WOW!!! This room exceeded our expectations!! It was just gorgeous!!! It was beautifully rustic, the gas fireplace was so very cozy (and warm), the sitting area was so charming, and the bed was OUTSTANDING!! All I can say is WOW!!! Since it was December, we were not abel to enjoy our private sundeck...but the room itself was just PERFECT!!! After settling in, we then went for a hike down by the lake...even though it was cold, the scenery was so enjoyable and peaceful. We took a nice, long hike before returning to the Inn, as it was getting dark. We enjoyed a nice, quiet cocktail hour in our room and just kept saying "ahhhh"!!! We got a wonderful night's sleep then headed out the next day to the Woodstock Museum at Bethel Woods (IF YOU'VE NOT BEEN THERE, YOU'VE GOT TO PUT IT ON YOUR BUCKET LIST- IT'S OUTSTANDING)!!! After our day at the museum, we took a suggestion from the Inn's restaurant choices and had a wonderful Italian dinner on the way back to th Inn...a fine ending to a marvelous day! Once back at the Dogwood, we grabbed our vino and enjoyed some quiet time in the Lodge living room...chatted with some other guests then enjoyed my partner's guitar music in front of the fire...SUPERB!!! During the two (2) mornings at the Inn, we enjoyed fabulous breakfasts - there was a lovely table off the dining room that offered many kinds of breads, jams, teas, coffees, you name it!!! We were also served an outstanding hot breakfast of whatever we'd like...and the server was so very friendly and warm...just like Michelle. At some point, Ivan, the Owner joined in the festivities and entertained us with his wit, charm, intelligence and many interesting stories. Just before we headed back home, we met Ivan's wife Rue, a very charming lady. Our two-day adventure in Sullivan County was as Grande as the Inn at Lake Joseph. We look forward to returning this coming Fall with some family members. We truly want to share this slice of Heaven with special people in our life. Thank you, all, for such wonderful memories and for sharing your Inn and its beautiful surroundings with us.

Room Tip: The Dogwood was located on the 2nd floor and was so peaceful and quiet...we highly recommend it.

We always stay at the Inn at Lake Joseph in Forestburgh when we go to concerts at the Bethel Woods Performing Arts Center. The main guest house is situated on a lovely green lawn with nearby woods leading down to the shared community lake. We stayed in Laurel, one of several cabin-like buildings (they share some common walls with other units) apart from the main house. Laurel has a really comfortable King bed, kitchen, flat-screen TV and jacuzzi tub. There's also a grill on the deck. Breakfast is served daily in the main house, where guests can choose from a menu of made-to-order eggs, pancakes or waffles and breakfast accompaniments like bacon and sausage. Fruit, cereal and bread for toasting are also available on the buffet table. Throughout the afternoon, Inn at Lake Joseph also invites guests to help themselves to sandwich fixings and salads in the fridge, so you can stay at the property and enjoy the pool, the bikes, the lake or simply sit and read a book without leaving for lunch. If you do want to check out the area restaurants, the innkeepers provide a pretty good rundown of what's available within a 15-20 mile radius. The drive to Bethel Woods, site of the original Woodstock, is about 16 miles from the inn, but driving and parking in the concert traffic can be challenging, to say the least. A better alternative, we think, is to drive about 7 miles from the inn to the Monticello Casino and Raceway, park and catch a concert bus (actually a school bus) operated by Big V Entertainment. They drive you to a concert in less time than it would take you to drive yourself and return you to the raceway after the concert via some back routes. Then you drive yourself back to the inn for a good night's sleep.

Excellent hospitality, breakfast was terrific and many things to do. We went to a show, Jacob and the Amazing Technicolor Dream coat. The theater was nearby. The lake and scenery are spectacular. We will go back again.

I have been here twice, the first over 20 years ago and thoroughly enjoyed myself both time. The Inn offers great food for breakfast and lunch and is extremely well maintained and always pleasant. The innkeepers welcome are welcoming and can provide lots of info. The grounds are beautiful and serene and our rooms were always fresh and comfortable.
The attention to detail is superb!

I was looking for a nice romantic getaway with my wife and came across the Inn at Lake joseph as i am not far away from this area. I must say i was totally blown away by how beautiful this place was nestled in the catskills. The grounds, Pool and room were so beautiful! The room was more beautiful than i can ever imagine with one of the most comfortable king size beds I ever slept in, along with a cute jacuzzi and even a fireplace. The kitchen was also perfect along with everything a kitchen would have in your house, it even had a coffee maker! Along with everything else we even had a private porch and get this! our own bbq grill fully supplied with matchlight charcoal and matches.
I Can't tell you enough on how we enjoyed our breakfast, it was so delicious it held us the whole day, however we did enjoy also the lunch where we helped ourselves to sandwiches and sides.
I most certainly will return again and again and again and this time stay longer so i can enjoy cooking more in the kitchen and bbq which we really did not have time for.
I also bought two beautiful coffee mugs with the lake joseph inn inscribed right on it.
Also, everything is close by, my wife and i enjoyed the monticello casino along with a buffet dinner, so much to see in such a beautiful place in the catskill mountains, im so happy we found the Lake Joseph INN!!!!

We wanted a relaxing weekend, with our dog along, and chose the Inn. Short version: the place is beautiful, the room was great (we had The Hemlock), the lake was peaceful, the forest trails were breathtaking, the other guests were friendly and fun to meet. We had intended to go out to dinner, but decided once there to make something light and sit on our deck with a drink and listen to.... the silence.

I read the few negative reviews posted (although they are very much a minority) and I can only think that they had talked themselves into someplace that this is not. It is not a sleek high end resort. It is not the W in the woods. It is what you bring to it. True, it is not cheap. If the price worries you too much then perhaps you should make your vacation decision based on price and not on the experience. We were there for two nights and we would have enjoyed staying longer. We will have to go back!

The Inn, with working fireplaces, whirlpool baths and private sundecks, is located in Upstate New York on a 250-acre private lake. Like resort lodging, Inn at Lake Joseph provides a variety of summer and winter recreational facilities, including access to a health and fitness spa. But unlike larger hotels, with just 18 guestrooms, a luxurious, yet informal, casual country retreat that assures guests a relaxing, private, rustic mountain lake environment awaits.
