We returned to the Nautical Mile for the first time since Sandy. Remembering Rachel's from prior experiences, we chose to eat here on the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend. I don't know if they did not anticipate the crowds since the day was absolutely beautiful or they are just not as good as they used to be.
We were told there would be a 45 minute wait for the two of us. After about 50 mins, we were told we were next. They then sat three other groups of 2. When we questioned the hostess, she said they had reservations and had to be seated first (we were not told anything about reservations either when we signed in nor when we were told we were next).
We were finally seated, but a waitress did not even come over for almost 25 minutes. When she finally did, she apologized and said she thought somebody came over to tell us she was busy. Other tables, with different waitresses were taken care of much faster.
We had to ask the busboy three times for more water..not acceptable and my husband did not get his glass of wine until our soup was served. He likes to enjoy his beverage ahead of food.
I ordered plain grilled shrimp. When they were served, they were cajun spiced, not plain grilled shrimp. They remade them, but my husband was almost done with his dinner before I got mine. He ordered the crab meat stuffed lobster tails. The lobster was undercooked, but after waiting so long for food, he ate them anyway. The stuffing was all bread, no crabmeat. He said that he would give the chef $5 if he could find one piece of crab in the crabmeat stuffing.
In their favor, when we paid, my husband did complain to the server. She sent over the hostess, who did offer us dessert or a drink but we just wanted to get out of there at that point. We will never go back to Rachels.

You can't beat a table for two that is inches from the pier and water, especially when it comes with good food and service. The brunch menu includes both breakfast and lunch items, and all come with soup or a small fruit plate. Bloody Mary's start off free with $2.00 refills. They were very tasty with plenty of horseradish, but not much alcohol. That didn't bother us though because of the price. Next time you're at the Nautical Mile, check this place out.

After a couple of less than satisfactory experiences on the Nautical Mile, here came Rachel's. What a delight! Perfect location on the Canal in a locale renovated after Sandy, the menu is simple, clear but enticing. The fish is unbelievably fresh and the taste is pure, uncovered by too much of any strong taste. The chowder was excellent. The fish and chips were lightly battered and generous. I had some of the best baked oysters I've ever tasted in the seafood platter. The Pinot Grigio was served at the perfect temperature. A perfect meal at a very affordable price in a beautiful place. Our server was Emily, ask for her, she has a mile-wide smile that will make your day.
