Good tasty Indian food but I thought it was on the oily side . they might need to cut down on the ghee. Service was friendly and excellent overall. Nice decor. Prompt valet parking.

As Indian restaurants go, this one is about par for the course: spicy, greasy, small portioned and high priced (for the portion.)

The restaurant is located in a back corner of the parking field behind a huge shopping mall, having relocated from it's previous high-profile spot in the front of the same mall several years ago. It is now housed in a very large and spacious building, and is therefore suitable for small gatherings in the main restaurant space and also for large events (which could be why they relocated to this spot) in the larger banquet spaces. Having said that, there seems to be a slight need for some airing out of these spaces... As may now be evident here, I had eaten in their prior location a few times many years ago, and decided to try them again for a take-out dinner this time.

The food I received (two non-vegetarian and one vegetarian dish, along with the regular accompaniments) was spicy and somewhat greasy... cream predominates in some Indian recipes and is an easy add-in to make an item more "tasty" (which most Indian restaurants also resort to, so it isn't something one would consider out of the ordinary in most such preparations.)

The service is courteous and fairly prompt. The staff is friendly and helpful with suggestions from the menus, though at first they tend to suggest the staples like butter chicken and tandoori nan which are the easiest on western tastes and therefore, the most frequently ordered items. But one would be well advised to try other items as well and seek their own preferences ~ as with any other cuisine.

Overall, a their food is reasonably good and may be worth further re-exploration.

I've been to Akbar for the lunch buffet and for dinner. The food is always good and the service attentive. Tried the Gobi Manchurian for something new and it was delicious!

Akbar does not fail to prove consistency in food quality, excellent service, a pleasant ambiance from the moment you walk in until after desert. This restaurant knows how to pamper it's clientèle with old classic fare and constant reinvention. It has excellent space for weddings, parties as well as family affairs and romance.

This was my first experience with Indian Food. It is a buffet so it was nice to just try a little of everything. Very clean place to eat and the waiters were very attentive but not so much that they were in the way. The food although unfamiliar to my taste buds was good. My husband was reluctant because he had had Indian food before and hated it. But, he loved this place. We ate at several wonderful places while in NYC. And this was his favorite. The meal was followed by mango ice cream. It was such a nice touch and cooled my tongue.
