“Nice place for a relaxing stay”
Reviewed 8 May 2013 via mobile

We stayed here for a few nights on our way from NYC to Niagara Falls. It's a nice place and very relaxing with pretty grounds and spacious rooms. Maybe it's because I'm from the west, but I thought the word lodge was a bit too grand for this hotel. It seemed a bit too small and with too few amenities to be called a lodge. Really missed having a restaurant on premesis and the one within walking distance was not open for the season yet? Breakfast was good though, with a nice variety of quality ingredients. Service was good, nothing special. Cleanliness could improve, our room was a bit dusty and we found a bottlecap and a rusty bobby pin in the room, there were also no liners in the garbage cans, but ok otherwise. Bed was very large and comfortable. Overall, a good but not excellent stay.

We looked around several different areas of NY state for a vacation, and eventually settled on the Minnewaska Lodge in Gardiner. It's actually outside Gardiner, off a major local highway that carries traffic between the Catskills/Shawangunks & the Hudson Valley area. The hotel itself is back from the road far enough to be quiet and relaxing, and most rooms face away from the road -- and toward a long ridge of cliffs that are just beautiful.

Close to good areas for rock climbing and hikes ranging from easy to challenging. The nearby hikes have stunning views of what seems like the entire Hudson Valley on clear, sunny days. A great German restaurant is just across the road, but you're also short drives from New Paltz, Hyde Park, Kingston, Poughkeepsie and Rhinebeck. Slightly farther from, but still within striking distance of, Woodstock, West Point, Peekskill, Middletown and Danbury, CT.

The hotel doens't have a restaurant, but they have a good continental breakfast every day, in a great room with Mission style furniture and beautiful views of the cliffs. There's a nice grassy meadow out back with Adirondack chairs and two gas-fed fire pits that the staff is happy to turn on for you in the evening.

They had a smallish but very well equipped (and well maintained) workout room, too. No pool.

One of the most relaxing, beautiful stays we've ever had. We'd definitely go back.

Enjoy!

Room Tip: Definitely opt for the cliff views!

I recently stayed on the Lodge on business travel. Right from check in the whole experience was a pure pleasure. From the check in staff to the cleaning lady. Everyone was courteous, helpful and couldn't seem to do enough for us. I stayed in a king bed room with a balcony looking at The Gunks. What a beautiful view. The room was spotless, warm and cozy. They had coupons for the distillery tour which was 3 miles away and recommended a local restaurant. Both were incredible. The breakfast was absolutely fabulous. The only downside was the availability of the fitness room. It was raining and too cold to run outside and the fitness room did not open until 8am. I had to leave the lodge by 8:30 for my next business stop and could not wait until 8am to exercise. Would highly recommend this Lodge any time of the year!!! I know I will be going back.

Room Tip: Cliff view rooms are spectacular.

Booked a room at Minnewaska Lodge for a last minute getaway. Its hard to believe that this gem is only about 2 hours away from us. Its location is perfect for anyone looking to take in the great outdoors as many state parks are very close by. If you want to trek into New Paltz its only about a 10 minute drive. The room was excellent. We made use of the balcony overlooking the Hudson Valley everyday of our stay. The continental breakfast served daily is perfect for anyone looking to get a jump on a day of hiking. The employees are extremely knowledgable a d friendly and will go out of their way to make your stay a pleasant one

Room Tip: Make use of the Great Room and fire pits!

We enjoyed staying at the Minnewaska Lodge. We had a cliff view room with a deck, which I would recommend highly. The room was comfortable and clean with hairdryer, iron and ironing board and TV. We also enjoyed sitting in the great room in the evening. The great room is where breakfast is served from 8-10AM every day. The continental breakfast was very good (the baked good were too good!). The lodge provides coffee and tea all day, which is nice. They have a front porch and back deck, but it was too cold for us to sit out there for this visit. It must be lovely to sit out there during the warmer months. The view of the Shawangunk Ridge was our view from the deck of our room. A very beautiful view. The staff were very friendly and helpful. My husband and I felt very welcome! It is about 5 miles away from New Paltz where there are restaurants and shops. Also close by is the Minnewaska State Park with Lake Minnewaska, which we visited and were surprised there still was snow there (the state park is a little drive up the mountain). Since we are residents of the state and my husband is over 62 we were admitted to the state park for free. That was a nice surprise! There are other natural locations to visit, as well, but we didn't have time to visit them.

Room Tip: cliff view rooms with a deck are very nice.
