This was a fairly new winery, but the staff was very friendly and the wine was our favorite in the region.

Having visited wineries around the world, I'd heard a lot about the "white" in the Finger Lakes region, but had been forewarned to steer clear of the "reds".
Don't believe everything you hear.

Zugibe was one of our first stops of our 2 1/2 day stay in Ithaca. What a way to start out!

The main room's wooden interior presents a dramatic and wholesome feel.

Deck: The deck out back is pretty awesome! Great to sit back and enjoy the sunset over Seneca Lake.
Wines: Quite enjoyable, and I recall one of their reds was notable.

We visited this winery on a Saturday. The building, landscaping and decor are lovely. The staff member we met at the door to ask us to pay up front was polite. Our tasting was very disappointing. There were 2 servers for approximately 25 guests. The woman at our end of the bar was totally overwhelmed. She never even met our eyes. There were no descriptions of our choices. She would look at our choice, come back, pour and leave. We enjoy visiting a bit with the staff & hearing about the wines. There was none of that here. Maybe we just caught her at a bad time or she was new. One of my friends with me mentioned that she seemed to have a group of her friends down the bar she gave all the attention to. All 4 of us left not learning a thing about Zugibe.

Have been to Zugibe a few times. Stumbled on it the first time while touring the Finger Lakes. Not often do I buy a glass of wine while touring but their whites were very good and the deck with Adirondack chairs overlooking the lake could not be resisted. Went back subsequently to a music and food event and had a wonderful time. Looking forward to my next visit.

This new winery has a pretty impressive building and an even more impressive story. Chances are the matriarch of the family will be one of the wine pourers, her 3 sons run the winery together (the agriculture son, the MBA son, the mechanical one...) and she lives next door. Wines range from decent to very good - which is pretty impressive given how young the winery is. They also sell some addictive local chocolate. Worth the minor detour from elsewhere on the northeast Seneca or northwest Cayuga waterfront.
