“Excellent stay in a relaxed environment”
Reviewed 9 July 2012

Julie and Steve were so relaxed and friendly. They were the perfect innkeepers at a very historic and comfortable home. Breakfast both mornings was delicious. The room was clean and comfortable, and my husband and I would definitely come back to stay here the next time we are in the area.

Historic, well maintained B&B in Geneva. Longest continuously resided in property in the city. Close walk to downtown. Comfy bed, tasty breakfast and charming innkeepers. Very accommodating for bicyclists.

As this was our very first stay in a Bed & Breakfast ever, this encounter will definitely make us visit a B&B again. The room was lovely, it was large and thus had room for chairs, tables, etc, the view was nice, location was great, the bathroom was great and the WiFi worked like a charm. We checked in late in the evening, but they left us a personal note to welcome us and give us some instructions. Steve made us breakfast and it had only French toast (with syrup) and sausages and/or fruit on the menu, but it was a great breakfast. Near the lake are many nice vineyards, so we had a great time here. I definitely recommend it, you'll enjoy your stay.

I had the privilege to spend a night as a guest of the proprietors of the Chapman House BnB.... From check-in to check-out, everything was superb. The owners are wonderful, the room was fantastic (functional, romantic, spotless and HUGE), the ambiance of the house was unmatched (quiet and peaceful), and breakfast was great.

I was solo (unfortunately) as my son was visiting Hobart, but my thought was this would be a GREAT place for a couple.

BnB is about a 5 to 8 minute walk from the Downtown area, so you can park easily and leave your car.

If you are looking for a GREAT experience... you won't be disappointed.

We stayed here last night with another couple while in the area for a concert. The location was great, just a short drive from the Canadaigua Performing Arts Center and the Seneca Lakes Wine Trail. It is a lovely historic home, situated next to Hobart College and the hosts Steve and Julie were very accomodating but unobtrusive. The porch was a nice place to sit and catch up with our friends, and it was where we chose to have our breakfast this morning! The breakfast was delicious, eggs benedict (the eggs were farm fresh), very good coffee, juice and fresh fruit. Our room was nicely decorated, clean, comfortable and airconditioned! It was a welcome respite during this heat wave! The couple we traveled with had a beautifully appointed room as well. Both rooms had private baths. I would stay here again and would recommend it to my friends.

Room Tip: We were in room 2 which was nice, Our friends had room 1 which was nicer!

For my girlfriend's birthday, I wanted to take her on a long weekend getaway within driving distance of PA. Both being wine lovers, we decided on the Finger Lakes region. With so many B and Bs in the area, it was hard to decide on one. But after reading the reviews on the Chapman House and others being out of our price range, we chose this one. What a good decision it was. For the most part, Dec is the off season so we were the only ones staying there that weekend. The owners pretty much kept to themselves which gave us the whole front of the house to ourselves. Not that we really needed it because the room we stayed in was very spacious and cozy. It was well kept, warm, clean and nicely decorated. The large bathroom was clean and very nicely done as well. The Chapman house is in a great location, right in the middle of the historic section of Geneva featuring many large well maintained historic houses. Walking distance to both the quaint downtown area and Seneca Lake but only a short drive to the more commercial areas. After seeing some of the other B and Bs scattered around Seneca Lake, I was glad we chose this one. Most of the others sit secluded by themselves where you would have to drive to do anything. Even though it was cold out, we had a nice romantic walk at night time in the snow. Being from PA, you would think that we would have stayed at the southern end of the lake near Watkins Glen. But it actully worked out better staying at the north end of the lake. When we 1st arrived at the southern end of the lake, we drove up the east side of the lake catching several wineries along the way. We ended our day in Geneva and checked in to the Chapman House. The next day we drove down the west side back to Watkins Glen and then stopped at the wineries on our way back to Geneva ending our day at the Belhurst Castle. Although we didn't explore both towns extensively, Geneva seemed to be much more charming while Watkins Glen seemed to be stuck in the 60s. Although the trolly (operates out of Geneva) was shut down for the season, during the warm months I understand that the trolly offers public tours of the wineries eliminating the need for a designated driver. There are plenty of Limo services offered in the area but are much more expensive.
Overall, we enjoyed our stay at the Chapman House and would definately recommend it to others. The only thing that some people may not like is the fact that they only serve a continental breakfast. Although a nice gourmet breakfast would have made the stay complete, the continental was both filling and delicious. On the second morning, we even had it delivered to our room at the time we requested. We can't wait to go back but this time during the warm Summer months.

My sister and I have travelled to many countries around the world. We frequently look for B & B's with hopes of having personalized travel experiences. The Chapman House is the kind of Bed & Breakfast experience that models what B & B's are all about!

What makes it so?
-First and foremost - The owners, Julie and Steve, are wonderful hosts who ensure that their guests' needs are met. (We smiled when Steve suggested that he get us a baggie so that we could pack our remaining breakfast treats to enjoy later in the day!)
They are available and present without being intrusive.
-We were welcomed with a clear (large print!) "one-pager" telling us how to access the internet (free) and how to contact Steve and Julie if we needed anything (cell number).
-Breakfasts were excellent, with homemade goodies and wonderful coffee. We were impressed that we were able to select our own time and location.
-The house is believed to be the oldest in Geneva; it is truly gorgeous! The best part is that when Steve and Julie bought the house, it was in need of repair and love...... They have given it both!

We wish them all the best in their business endeavour and hope that their passion continues to extend to the many guests that will pass through their home.
Thanks Julie and Steve.
