My husband and I are not very picky guests, but our stay at this hotel was very disappointing. The hotel itself looks very outdated (wood panelling from the 70s) and the swimming pool also has a bridge which looks chipped and worn out. Not very safe! At check-in, we were kept waiting for about an hour for our room. I completely understand the housekeeping need time to clean a room, but the reception staff didn't even mention to us what we were waiting for. They simpy left us a drink and carried on chatting among

We were extremely disappointed with the cleanliness of the room. We found hairs on the bathroom glasses (which had not been washed) and the shampoo / shower gel bottles were half empty. The bed was small and the air conditioning had a very bright light which bothered us the whole night, so much so that we had to turn it off and open our doors.

Dinner was a Creole buffet. The restaurant staff were friendly, but the buffet lacked quality. Check out was another story. We had booked a taxi for an early pick-up at 6:30 to the jetty. At 6:00, there was nobody to check us out! the reception doors were locked and we had to leave our room key with a barman. Our taxi never came, and we ended up dragging our luggage to the jetty.

The service, cleanliness and maintenance issues are a real shame. This is a beautiful property with breathtaking views, but in the end, that is not what makes a holiday. I would recommend you spend your money elsewhere.

As South African hotel mogul Sol Kersner is accredited with saying 'three most important considerations when building a hotel is position, position and position' then Patatran Village scores full marks! Their position on La Digue is one of the best with great swimming/snorkling on their doorstep and around the corner some of the beast snorkling on the island! The hotel is well appointed in terms of pool, dining room and great views. As for the staff they are fantastic especially the manageress, Lillian I think her name was with lots of hugs and warmth to go around!
Unfortunately that is where the accolades end, the room is adequate, aircon not effective [you would expire without the breeze off the sea at night], no coffee in the room only very old tea bags in a jar! Dinner, apart from the night they had very good home made vegatable soup was urgh! Advertising 'The best Sea Food Buffet on the Island' was really over the top - most of the buffet was lamb and unknown meat!!!
Breakfasts were a first come first serve as the bacon ran out on two occasions, so did the french bread and no replacement! What a shame, up the ante on the food side, coffee in the rooms and you will have a truly great little hotel!
Come on guys get your act together you are soooo close!!!

I took a standard room that's very small. The floor was not that clean...
The plates borders are broken in the restaurant. Looks like the hotel is old and none is taken care anymore... Thats a pity cause is a vey nice location and relaxing place. U sleep hearing the waves.
Staffs are nice

We stayed 6 nights at Patatran in Dec 2012. We had booked the hotel (superior) and wedding arrangements through a travel agency and could not have been happier with everything.

The hotel is not a 5-star resort. If you expect that, you will be disappointed. But if you are looking for a Creole-hotel with a great relaxed athmosphere - Patatran is the right choice. We were welcomed with a fresh fruit cocktail and refreshment towels when we arrived and a bottle of wine with a welcoming letter was waiting in the beautiful room that was decorated with flowers. The views from the room were breathtaking. Our room (Boisdamier) was in the main building, basically on top of the restaurant and the pool, directly at sea. The room it self was spacious, clean and nicely decorated.

Regarding the service - Lindy, the hotelmanager arranged all and beyond. I had not ordered a bouquet in advance - so she did me one & a corsage for my husband. They were absolutely beautiful, and she did not charge anything, just said "took me 5 minutes" and smiled. On our wedding day we did not book a table in advance - Lindy asked us as we got back to the hotel in the afternoon if we would come to dinner - we sayed yes, and an amazingly decorated separate table was made for us.

Some more little things like coming very late to the hotel and just wanting a snack from the buffet to our room "just pick something" without charging the buffet-cost. When there was a problem with the internet-connection, we were allowed to use the computer from the reception. And small christmas presents were given out as well... we really enjoyed our stay.

La Digue itself is small, and bikes are a must. You can basically just pick one in front of the hotel - the charge is very reasonable and the bikes are in good condition. The food in the restaurant was relatively good, (we did not find any "wow-effect" food anywhere on La Digue), breakfast was also good with an assortment of fruit, pastries and omelettes/eggs/pancaces of choice. Some had complained about the time (7.30 - 9.30), although on our honeymoon, we did not find it too early. It makes no sense to sleep late at the hotel during daytime in a beautiful place like La Digue...

We would definetly recommend this hotel to anyone, couples, families, friends.

Room Tip: There are only a few rooms in the main-building - try to get one, the views are stunning!

In short: Spend a few extra dollars and go to a better hotel. You are spending a lot anyway, so don't try to save a few bucks and suffer a big drop in quality when staying at the Patatran compared to the more expensive resorts. Got to La Digue - it is beautiful - but stay somewhere better!
Here are the inputs... (the weird stuff at the end)

Location: The location is absolutely beautiful. Great views of the ocean, and some good snorkelling opportunities (eagle rays and turtles) just in front of the hotel (though getting into the water can be a hassle when there are some waves due to the rocks in the water). But then again, there are so many really beautiful beaches and spots on La Digue, so this doesn't stand out that much. And the beach is so small it is usually crowded by the people from the hotel.
Getting around by bycicle is a must on La Digue - it's easy, fun, relaxing and allows you to go to the beautiful beaches on the southeast (Grand Anse etc.)

Service: Staff is generally friendly, but not flexible. Do not try to get food between their food hours. The first day, we slept in and missed the breakfast (till 09:30 only). There was no way to get food out of those people before their official lunch hour (starting 12:00) - they just shrugged, pointing out what their breakfast and lunch hours are.
We were booked as honeymooners and received zero extras, not even the slightest extra attention or goodie (almost all other vacation hotels do that).
You have to pay 100 rupees deposit for your beach towels. They obviously still believe, tourist visiting the Seychelles are so poor they steal those well-used beach towels.
Save is at reception only - rather inconvenient.

Food: Very strict food hours, with relatively short periods where you can go and eat. If you have a meal plan, dinner is often the type of "chose between Menu A or Menu B" (usually fish or chicken). No great variety at all.
Service staff is doing their best, but they are not able to serve all guest upon their arrival (everybody gets in for dinner at the same time because of short dinner times).
Don't go towards the end of their breakfast hours (until 09:30) - you will not find much left, even when you get there at 09:00. Fruits, for example, are mostly gone by then.
In the room, there is the oportunity to make coffee or tea. But you have to pay for it! That is rather inacceptable, given the price of the room (how expensive can a teabag per day be..?).

Rooms: The room we first got, was nothing special at all (room name: Takamaka). It was set back from the ocean with no real view of the ocean (looking at the main building, basically), had no individual balcony, had a noisy fridge and qualified as "just average".
I would strongly discourage anyone from accepting this room, because: On the third night at 1 AM, we heard strange noises coming from the room above this room. It was a mixture of very loud snoring and screaming inbetween. Never heard anything like that before - real spooky situation! We came to the conclusion, that someone was having serious nightmares up there (though there seemed to be light in that room - probably so scared at night that person slept with lights on - or whatever..). It was impossible to sleep! We called reception - no reply. We walked down to reception, just to find the main entrance locked and no signs of anyone at all, not even a security person. So we were left on our own with the problem. We are generally easy-going people and know that things can sometimes go wrong - but this was to much for us to accept.
When we complained the next day, we were told that some employee was sleeping up there and that - of course - following our complaint this person would be removed from that room above our room. (It sounded as if it was a well known problem). We were also told there was supposed to be a security guy at night, but that he was probably sleeping somewhere, which is why we could not get hold of anyone from the hotel at 1 am. Great news - better not have anything serious during their off-hours...
The next night, the screaming was no more, but snoring was still loud. So we were not only lied to, the owners obviously didn't care much about the problem. In the same night, the electricity network at this building broke down completely, resulting in emergency wiring in the evening with the promise for more work the next day. That was it then, we demanded a different room, and got put into room named: cocotier. Supposedly, both rooms are of the same category, but in reality, there is a huge difference in quality - the new room had a wonderful balcony overlooking the ocean, was much bigger and designed with style, compared to the old one. With the new room, we were totally happy. But the previous experiences were totally inacceptable, and they lead me to discourage anyone from staying at this hotel!

Room Tip: Do not accept room Takamaka!

We spent 7 nights at Patatran for our honeymoon. We had contacted the hotel before and they offered an upgrade free of charge, including champagne in our room.

All in all, this is what we thought:
. room: amazing, great views and a lovely balcony (we did have the upgrade though) - excellent bathroom and great bedroom with cozy bed.
. restaurant: great breakfast buffet with good choice (for the seychelles), great dinners offered. slightly overcharging on cocktails though.
. staff friendliness: can be improved, but was good overall. very helpful if you needed information, and the hotel manager, lindy, is a true gem. ask for her if you need help.
. extras: bike rental for a good price and bike can be checked if you need it. sun deck and deck chairs could be improved, but are clean - the pool is clean as well, though small.

we noticed some people had complained about insects in their rooms, but we found them present everywhere in the seychelles. this is a tropical country, after all...

all in all, we WILL be back at the patatran. we had an incredible time there!
