“Thank you Sainte Anne”
Reviewed 15 April 2014

We spent 2 wks. in South Africa on Safari before coming to Sainte Anne for our 7 night stay. We are well traveled - and the beauty of the Seychelles Islands with the granite formations did not disappoint. Stunning beaches, water, landscape! This is why we came this very very long distance. KC gave us the resort briefing while taking us to our Infinity Pool Villa - our room and view were exactly what we expected - gorgeous - champagne chilling - PERFECT! KC had made reservations for all of our dining experience. After flying all night we were tired and I didn't pay close enough attention to the reservations and quickly realized that we had not flown that far to have so many days with 3 meals of buffets (although the food was very good at the buffet). At first when we tried to change our buffet dining - the answer was no - all the other restaurants were booked. KC also said that the 2nd adult bike would arrive - but that took several calls and 4 days. KC is very busy. A very special "thank you" to jean Nagalingum - he stepped in and made this holiday the holiday we expected. Our dining experiences were wonderful, we had a club car, our bikes, and other special touches that we loved and that made for a really special trip. We embraced the beauty of the islands everyday while walking the beaches and taking the paddle boat out as well as spending most of our time by our infinity pool. We came to Sainte Annes ready to dive but after our 1/2 day deep sea fishing excursion and visiting with Sid (who is just wonderful) at the dive center decided that we would pass. We loved watching the baby lemon sharks attack the bait ball by the jetty - sometimes 9 babies at 1 time. We also saw many baby spotted eagle ray and a large variety of fish. The water is crystal. We went into Mahe to see if we could find art with the Seychelles beautiful landscape and we did! LOVE IT! Rajah (sorry if I have the name wrong....you know who you are) was terrific. He did a great job at the bar....so good that we left Sainte Anne with 3 bottles of their strong alcohol that fortunately made it safely back to the US. We celebrated our 25 yr. anniversary and my husband's birthday...jean Nagalingum and our server at the Le Mont Fleuri restaurant (wish i had her name - she was fantastic! we loved her energy and smile)- made both of these occasions memorable!!! We took our last beach walk the morning of departure............again enjoying the beauty of the Seychelles Islands. The flight back to our home in the US was 32-33 hours in the airplane - not including layovers. YES this is a return trip for us...............we loved it.

We spent 10 days at the Sainte Anne resort on the All-Inclusive package, which we think was well worth the small additional cost.

First of all, let's get the view out of the way. As commented on by previous revues, the view from the hotel itself is towards Mahe and the capital Victoria with its port and wind turbines.
We had been expecting the worst, but in reality it's off in the distance and not really such an issue, especially with the many trees providing a screen. Also most of the rooms are set back in the gardens, or look towards the north of Victoria.

Despite being spread out and covering quite a large area, Sainte Anne is quite a small hotel. Hence the limited restaurant choice and facilities. During our stay in early April, we estimated that the hotel was probably only 50% full and other than evening dinner in the main buffet restaurant, the place was very quiet with very few people around. We enjoyed this lack of people and the peace and quiet it provided was brilliant.

Rooms - we were automatically upgraded to the next level of villa and there was a complementary bottle of Champagne waiting for us on arrival . The villa was very spacious and well appointed, in an old colonial style, which some may consider a dated look.
Although not as luxurious as some top 5 star tropical resorts, it was very clean and room servicing and cleaning was well carried out. Top marks there.
The inclusive free mini-bar was replenished every day and when we asked for something, it was delivered or seen to very promptly. Fuss free wi-fi in every room, needing no registration to connect; but is not available around the resort. The speed is slower than we are used to at home, but it was OK.
Bathroom towels and beach towels replenished every day, but they could do with replacing them with better quality ones.

Each room is allocated bicycles for personal use and as it was quite a long walk to the main reception and restaurants, electric golf buggies could be summoned to our room by a call to reception. They usually arrived within a few minutes of calling to transport us to dinner.

Restaurant choice is limited.
The main one Le Abondance, is buffet service and the only one open for breakfast. It is also open for lunch and dinner. There is a small informal beach restaurant, on the SE side which is only open for light lunches.
Le Mont Fleuri is the resort's supposed best dining spot and booking must be done immediately on arrival, otherwise you won't get a reservation. Located at the top end of the resort, it's a raised, rustic tree-house style location. Excellent food, well presented and the best table service at Sainte Anne, but the menu is limited and didn't change on each occasion we dined there. Also, being situated in the trees alongside the rain forest, it has a reputation for mosquitos and despite ample coatings of various mossie repellent, we both suffered numerous nasty bites. Other guests we spoke to had the same experience.
Underneath Le Mont Fleuri, situated on the beach is the Le Robinson restaurant. With only a limited number of tables, you sit out on the sand on rustic driftwood style furniture amongst collections of ancient artefacts and fishing nets. Unfortunately there's only a choice of the Lobster menu or one alternative choice; with only the latter on the all-inclusive and HB plans.
Basically it's a DIY barbecue, cooking on a hot stone on the table. A nice experience, but not much point going back unless you want the same meal.
The only other place to eat is L'Oceane, situated outside the main restaurant on the sand, serving a seafood menu. Unfortunately it was only open 3 out of the 10 nights we were there.

Three excellent beaches on different sides of the resort, all with safe shallow water. Depending on which way the wind is blowing, the water can be flat calm and there may be a nice gentle breeze, while on the beaches on the other side it might be slightly choppy, have no breeze at all, or conversely be quite windy. The longer Grande Anse beach was almost deserted most of the time we were staying there, which was fantastic for us.

There are free boat trips to the neighbouring Moyenne island, a giant Tortoise sanctuary.
Free glass bottom boat trips, etc and a free regular boat shuttle to Mahe throughout the day.

Staff - mostly friendly and polite, although a few were a bit reticent to talk.
This hotel has a laid-back ambiance and we found the service rather more informal than elsewhere we have stayed, but if approached, most members of staff were eager to please and helpful.
In the main restaurant, most staff were friendly, polite and attentive, but a few appeared disinterested and frankly a bit dozy. Service in the other restaurants was informal, but excellent.
The bar staff were very good, attentive, friendly and eager to please. Even better when all the drinks are part of the all-inclusive package, including unlimited champagne between 6pm and 11pm.
There was no signing required for any of the food or drink. They just asked for our room number when we first sat down or ordered something and that was all.

Apart from the view of Victoria, the setting is beautiful and the island is totally private. However the upkeep of the grounds leaves a bit to be desired in places.
Although the grounds are generally tidy, some of the garden staff appear to be slow and drifting around with not much effort being put in. Fallen branches, twigs and palm leaves are not cleared regularly and where an effort is made, piles of wood or bags of seaweed are left for days before being carted away. Also we saw a few discarded bottles and cans lying in the undergrowth alongside the beach, where nobody had bothered to go and look. These appeared to have been there for many weeks.
Alongside the main pathways, there are quite a few areas of bare earth which might benefit from some planting and landscaping, although I appreciate a lot of these areas suffer from being almost permanently the shade under the tree canopy, it did look a bit baren and unsightly.
The beaches are clean, but a lot of seaweed is washed up at times and the effort to clear it seemed haphazard, slow and half-hearted. Sometimes they didn't bother at all to clean it up.
While we were there, new sun beds were put out on one side of the resort, but on the southern beach, Anse Tortues, the sun beds had not been maintained and the mattresses were still soaking wet from heavy rainfall a few days earlier and full of sand, ants, snails and insects. There doesn't appear to be any daily management and maintenance of the sunbeds and beach areas and there are no beach attendants.

Our stay at Sainte Anne was wonderful. We have stayed at far better and more luxurious resorts around the world, including other Beachcomber properties in Mauritius, but there is a certain charm and tranquility to this place which we enjoyed. It is just a shame that there a few areas that let it down. Our general impression was that with a concerted effort in those areas, this resort could be transformed, not only to proper 5 star standard, but into something a bit special.
I would certainly recommend Sainte Anne, but don't expect the proper 5 star service or facilities you might expect at more prestigious luxury resorts. This is a more laid back experience which is sometimes a little bit ragged around the edges.

Room Tip: Avoid the villas on the south side, between the jetty and the main reception. Villas in the norther...

We booked a garden villa for 2adults and 2kids (8 & 5). It’s a single room effectively with two kids sized beds put in. There was still plenty of space and we didn't feel cramped. The garden villas are well appointed, very clean, comfortable and modern. The outside seating area is good and we used it several times. There is a full sized bath, and two showers (one indoors and one outside).
From arrival, the whole experience was very relaxed with a certain charm and genuine feeling of hospitality from the staff.
The boat jetty is a quick 10min drive from the airport and the resort is a further 10mins from the jetty by boat.
There is a certain rustic charm about Sainte Ann and I would have to be very critical to find anything worthy of a complaint. We have been to dinarobin in Mauritius and found this beachcomber property with its own charm but same great staff. The guys in the main bar (Gautam, Vikash, Rajen, Neddy, Vivek) provided genuine friendliness and great service through the day & night.
Ours kids were looked after superbly in the kids club by Mona and Elida and they thoroughly enjoyed it, even stopping in there for lunch or dinner a couple of times which allowed us to have a meal on own.
The restaurants are also superb, the specialist restaurants do get busy so book early. The main buffet type restaurant for which you don't need any reservations is also excellent and the choice is expansive. In summary, Saint Anne is a wonderful little gem and we are returning during the next school holidays, highly recommended.

A few tips.
1.wear the insect repellent and you will be ok.
2.bring everything with you that you need as the shop is expensive and very limited.
3.visit the botanical garden in Victoria.
4.take a helicopter tour of the island for something really special (there is a helipad on site).

We spent couple of days in Beachcomber Sainte Anne Resort which has a great location on private island very close to the main Seychelles island Mahe. The hotel has it´s own jetty on Mahe, which is approximately 10 minutes far from the airport and additional 10 minutes far from Sainte Anne island. Boats have fixed schedule but they can arrange any time aside it.
We arrived early morning with Emirates flight and reach hotel at 8,30 am. However the check-in time is 2pm we were accommodated immediately after having breakfast. We stayed in garden villa and we were totally happy with this room.
The villa was in very good shape and well maintained by housekeeping every day. We don´t have any reservation. One day they arranged the reading lamps so that the light on a bed made a shape of heart. It was very nice. There was plenty of storage space in the room and all rooms have inside as well as tropical shower.
Each villa is equiped with bicycles so that everyone can easily get round the hotel. We used them expecially in the morning to get to breakfast and then via all day except evening when we ordered a buggy. Guests from more luxury villas have their own buggy. But as the hotel was occupied from 50-55% we didn´t wait more than 5 minutes. Which was perfect.
The hotel has 3 beaches, two of them are with beach bar and the one at pool side is very close to the main bar. The ocean was mostly very clean just last two days there was a sea grass.
We prepaid the island all inclusive package and I highly recommend this to everyone. It´s not because of free drinks but it´s fine when you needn´t to sign any bill during your stay....ok except Spa.
Their cuisine was simply delicious. We couldn´t complain about anything except our disability to eat more. We experienced all restaurants, i.e. the main with buffet and the others with ala carte menu. LeOcean and Le Mont Fleurie were the best for me and my spouse enjoyed Robinson.
They have exreemly well equiped gym where we were mostly alone.
And you must experience their spa......it´s really very good.
I also would like to thank to all staff we met. All of them were well trained and helpful. It´s impossible to remember all names but I remember KC from PR, Dinesh from Takamaka bar and restaurant and Yann from reception.
It´s very good hotel when you want to relax and when you don´t need a huge entertainment. However there were every evening live music.
I could write a novel about how we have enjoyed out stay and I hope we will have a chance to come back.

Room Tip: I would prefer villas farer from the main restaurant.

We stayed one night at the Beachcomber Sainte Anne Resort on our tour of the Seychelles. It was the only all-inclusive hotel we saw on our trip. This certainly takes the hassle and worry out of buying meals and drinks. It was like many of the Caribbean resorts we were used to.

It is located on a small island 10 minutes from the pier at Mahe, and the boat ride to it is a nice way to start your stay. It is a large resort, so golf carts are used to get around, but since it is pretty flat, the bicycles that they provide can also be used. In addition, there are nature trails so you can get lots of exercise walking, too.

The rooms have both an indoor and outdoor shower. The indoor shower was a regular shower, not a rain shower like many hotels have. There was wine and fruit in our room when we arrived, but I'm not sure if every guest gets that.

The room had few electrical outlets which we use to charge cameras, computers, etc. There was no clock in the room, but maybe that's a blessing on vacation. The do not disturb sign was a coconut.

The fancy restaurant requires the men to wear long pants. The meal we had there was good. There was a restaurant where you could eat on the beach, which we didn't try, but it looked interesting. There was free champagne by the glass from 6 PM to 11 PM daily. We greatly enjoyed the trio which were playing nice dance music in the main bar, as we drank our fill of drinks.

The spa was interesting, as one of the massage tables was made of wood. I'm not sure who would want to use that one, but it was available.

Since our stay was way too short, I would gladly go back again.

We (couple with 2 teenagers) stayed in St. Anne week 9/2014 and although we expected a lot, the resort exceeded our expectations so sweetly. We have travelled quite a lot all over the world in many multi-star-hotels but in St. Anne the service broke our heart (positively) being so natural. All the time we felt like the staff liked to serve and didn´t do it only because it´s their job. If I should mention one thing which wasn´t perfect or close to perfect, it was the wi-fi (which was quite slow compared to the WLANs we have got used to). However, also that thing turned positive (on top of poor mobile-phone connection) so that we really were relaxing and not replying to business mails etc.;-). However, the mobile connections were working but a bit slowly. The top things in St. Anne (on top of great staff) was the peace: We were close to everything and plenty of things to do, but not growded at all, nowhere. Also the allergies we have (gluten free) was taken very well into the account and it was first time that our gluten free teenage son had chance to have pancake at breakfast like all the others and that´s important for a child forced to watch everything he eats ... everyday.

By our expectation I can warmly recommend St. Anne to everybody who enjoys a natural beauty, service and ... peace! We wish all the best for the personnel of St. Anne and hope to see them again.

Br., Antti L. and his family

Room Tip: All the rooms were quite similar and located well.

Had a lovely time here, amazing food, the best lamb I've ever eaten in my life and wonderful views. The rooms/ villas were thoughtfully laid out and had a fab shower in the private garden area. I would definitely go back.
