Pros: Affordable, great and friendly staff, plenty of activities - fishing, game viewing.

Average food,

Cons: It is a bit rustic so be prepared to rough it out a little...

All in all, a good stay, I would go back, well suited for large groups of friends and family.

We arrived at Tiger Bay Lodge on 29 Dec 2011. We were booked in to stay 4 nights, we left after 3 nights. Had the Lake not been rough after a storm, we would've left after 2nights. The accomodation was horrendous. In 3 nights we moved 3 times and each chalet was just as bad or worse than the previous chalet. We feel totally cheated! There seems to not have been any maintenance done in months if not years at this Lodge. The people working there tried everything possible to make it pleasant as they knew we were very unhappy with the conditions and state of the Lodge. We tried to contact the owner as we wanted to make him aware of this poor state of the Lodge and our grievances. The owner was not reachable. I definitely would not recommend this Lodge.

Had a fabulous 5 days in tiger bay. Being a pom and a bit scared of the bush I was a bit nervous about the chalets being open in the front, but it was marvellous to wake up to the sunrise, hippos, crocodile on a cruise, every morning. To sit up in bed with a cup of tea with that view was a joy.
The staff could not have been more helpful, Billjon the manager went out of his way to make sure our stay was a pleasure. Tongo who took us fishing and game viewing was a marvel, so patient with the idiot tangling up line, very knowledgeable about the wildlife , .One of the highlights was feeding the fish eagles, they were swooping so close to the boat you could have touched them.(bream fishing was fantastic by the way)
Food was lovely, far too much to eat over the five days but it seemed a lot of effort went into the preparation. Had the most fantastic bush braai on an island, a real 'Out of Africa' experience, lovely fire going, glass of white wine...totally amazing. and the night sky was out of this world.
I thought the accommodation was fine, very clean, thought the chap did a great job with the cleaning. Bedding and towels lovely, beds turned down every night. The pool was cleaned every day, we certainly made use of it.
Over all we had a fantastic time, so relaxing. Didn't really want to go back to Harare.
Can't really understand some of the negative feed back, but each to their own. The staff really work their socks of to make sure you have the best time.
FANBLOODYTASTIC. !!!!

We were traveling from Vic Falls to Mana Pools in mid-Sept. and needed a stopover by necessity. Some of the other Kariba lodges were out of our price range so we decided to take a chance on Tiger Bay despite the negative reviews. We were relieved and happy to find that 1-there was plenty of good food and drink 2-the thatched A-frame room right on the water was clean with a comfortable bed, dry towels and a new mosquito net. 3-the pool was cleaned daily and despite being a bit worn, was perfectly swimable, and 4-the staff was friendly and eager to please. We did some fishing (caught dinner) and a game walk and had a good time. If you are looking for luxury, it's probably not for you, but all in all, the place was great value for the money and a kind of funky/friendly place to stay.

Having just spent four wonderful days at Tiger Bay in early September we can only give positive feedback on our stay. The staff under Biljon were excellent and nothing was too much trouble; the food very good; the chalets simple but very comfortable and clean (they are in the process of rethatching and refurbishing as we speak). The bream fishing was great and Dinos, our boat driver, was a good guide and knew where the fish were. Not to mention, that we had the most amazing sighting of a pride of nine lion trying to swim over to an island to hunt but constantly thwarted by a huge patrolling crocodile. Lots of elephants too. All in all, a very special few days on Kariba and the Ume and Tiger Bay gives very good value for money we thought. We will definitely visit again!

Room Tip: Room No. 6 has a beautiful sunrise view

PROS
> Location Location! Wildlife everywhere, especially when cruising the lake on boats and/or driving around in 4x4 vehicles
> Staff are friendly and willing to serve. They just lack the memory to get the drink/food orders correct
> Dinos, one of the staff members, was excellent! Took us fishing whenever we wanted. Great guide too about all the animals. He knows his stuff.
> Awesome New Years eve party on a house boat but sadly cut short at like 1am.
> ....... wait.... that's about it for the PROS

CONS
> Rooms - dirty, very public (torn canvas/door), crappy mosquito nets - hello! Malaria red zone! , no women cleaners as they would have done a better job , drain blocked up and flooded our room, could still easily watch the blades going around of the fan at top speed! , damp "new" towels, used soap, bed lamp didn't work (still didn't work the day we left even after telling the manager about it more than 3 times)........ you get the idea.
> Get this..... the generator for power is turned off @ 10pm every night! No partying for you guests.
> Always hurried to get food first coz we feared it would run out
> Pool was green. Eventually fixed by one of the guests!
> Our room was clearly worse than others. There were some chalets that were actually very decent. However.... when we approached Boss Marcheson about all the above... all that I thought was an apology was something about times are/were hard.... blah blah blah. If times are hard then close our rooms and don't make it available to the public until some renovations have been done! Or at the very least cut the price of the room's stay by 50% or more! And then he has a go at the African manager right in front of us.... that's just bad staff management right there.... *sigh*... you get my drift.

Look if they jacked the place up a lot more. Invested money into it and stop being so tight.... it could definitely be one of THE spots to visit in Kariba, even Zimbabwe.

I've just returned from a very enjoyable stay at Tiger Bay and am surprised at some of the poor ratings on this site.
