Ruby's Cove Bed and Breakfast is a charming spot to enjoy your trip to Greenport. We recognized the turret and enchanting front porch as soon as we turned on to the street. This is a positively beautiful old home. It is exquisitely furnished with gorgeous, gleaming wood floors. Our bedroom was very comfortable and had everything we might need for a relaxing stay. Donna was extremely friendly and welcoming. She is very knowledgeable about all the goings on in the village and was very helpful in advising us about great places to visit and dine. As the ad states it is a short walk to town. It is also a short walk from the water. We would definitely recommend Ruby's Cove B & B to our friends and family!

We were on vacation from Florida, visiting family on Long Island, and had one night available on our trip for a peaceful, romantic experience. We chose Ruby's based on the reviews on Trip Advisor. I called a month in advance and spoke with Donna who offered us a discount on our Monday night stay but repeatedly said that she was busy checking people in & couldn't answer any questions (although she was the one who kept on talking). She kept trying to push a second nite stay and thankfully we declined. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a guest out on the porch who said that Donna was inside. We walked around the interior for 15 minutes and could not find her. Finally the door flew open and we were greeted with "Who are you and what are you doing here?" After I told her our names and said we had reservations, she realized that she had totally forgotten about our reservation. The guests who were there were "barter" guests staying for free doing handiwork for her and she inadvertenly thought the reservation on her books was for them. So she had already given them our room and kept explaining that they were repeat guests celebrating their anniversary. She offered to have them move, but when she showed us the rooms, she pointed out the big crack in the ceiling in their room & explained the crack was part of the repairs the gentleman was there to fix. So we settled on another room. The room looked fine but when we settled in for the night, we realized the headboard wasn't attached to the bed and banged everytime we moved, the ceiling fan was coated in black dust/dirt and the shower head came off when I turned on the water. Although she kept apologizing for the condition of the house, which was in disarray (because she wasn't expecting "paying" guests), she had no problem charging us the full price of $290+ when we checked out. Thank God it was only one night and we would never return.

We just got back from Ruby;s cove. This B&B meets our needs in every way: perfect location right in town and close to everything! This charming Victorian house it's like taking a travel back in 1897,our room was extremely clean, cozy and confortable and all we had to bring was our clothes, everything we would need was there.Such an impressive Breakfast so tasty and delicious!. Donna, the owner, was very hospitable and welcoming. She was a truly great host! .
Seriously, if you are in Greenport, stay here, I can't recommend it highly enough!

My wife and I spent a wonderful, fun and relaxing August weekend at Ruby's Cove. The place won me over from the first moment I walked in. It's a large Victorian house that Donna, the owner, has given a funky, relaxed makeover -- "not old lady-ish" as she says. It's nicely luxe, but with a friendly, personal touch. Donna sets out a buffet of local wine, microbrewed beer, cheese, crackers and snacks in the afternoon. The key to the place is that she actually wants guests to eat, drink and enjoy these things -- it's not the glass of cream sherry and stale cookies left out in some B&Bs. And, in the evening when you get back from one of the local restaurants she's happy to recommend, she leaves out a surprise fresh-baked cookie, or a cupcake from the cool bakery in town, to welcome you home, and ease your transition to bed. Overall, the house and bedrooms are just the right type of bohemian chic you can picture yourself moving into -- but it's Donna herself, and her willingness to bend over backwards to make sure her guests are catered to and have a good time that sets Ruby's Cove apart.

Greenport itself is lovely--things to do, good restaurants, but still more relaxed and less pretentious than the Hamptons. Cycling around Greenport, or Shelter Island is fun. The beaches are great. The wineries are plentiful. Great place for an escape.

My husband and I stayed at Ruby’s Cove over the Labor Day Weekend. We were amazed with our experience there. Overall the house’s eclectic décor was so interesting that I couldn’t stop looking at each nook and cranny. Our room was clean, bright, decorated beautifully with a comfortable bed and great pillows. Breakfast in the morning was a home cooked meal cooked by the owner which is different all the time. The owner Donna is a great cook! This is my second time at a Bed and Breakfast ever. My husband’s criteria was to have air-conditioning and our own bathroom (which we didn’t have at the bed and breakfast in Martha’s Vineyard when we stayed a couple years ago)—both of which we had in our room at Ruby’s Cove. The owner wanted to make sure we had a great time in Greenport so she told us all about different restaurants, made reservations for us so we weren’t locked out, told us about the ferries and the great places to see in Sag Harbor and Shelter Island. She also has bikes to ride around town. We have been coming to Greenport for years but this is the first time we stayed at Ruby’s Cove. We experienced Greenport in a much different fashion than we have ever done. We got to see the town in a friendly welcoming way that we will never forget. I told my friends on Facebook about our time here and friends are happy for the recommendation. We will definitely be coming back! Free wi-fi but no TV.

We ended up on Donna's doorstep due to a series of catastrophes ... a Murphy's law kind of day. But from the moment we walked in the door, Donna couldn't have been more gracious! The perfect hostess where we both felt like we were visiting an old friend than checking in to a b&b. We spent hours talking about our lives ... catching up our new "old" friend on our lives.

Walking thru the doors of Ruby's Cove, it's like stepping back in time. I almost felt as if we had opened the door to a 1920's speakeasy to find this funky bohemian bordello. From the parlor to the dining room to the fabulously designed (and decorated) rooms, it was cool to the core. A place to curl up on a rainy day, sip coffee on the veranda, or to get out and explore Greenport during the day.

As for the stay ... yes we enjoyed fabulous - uber spacious yet cozy room with an amazing bed that simply enveloped me. Yes the entire house is decorated in a fabulous bohemian chic. Yes the breakfast is beyond delicious - the savory or sweet options were yummy. And yes the location is near perfect. But the real point of difference is Donna's amazing hospitality.

We picked this place based on the reviews, but unfortunately we were disappointed by the experience. Donna is nice to you if she feels assured that you will write a good review here. Most of her conversations are about these reviews. Rooms are incredibly small. Shower felt like standing in a tube, with no room to even move your hands to apply soap. I would pick this place if it was under $200, but not for $350. We wont be going back again here.. sorry. There are better B&Bs in the neighbourhood.
