“Convenient”
Reviewed 9 February 2014

I was in town to attend a funeral for a relative and this hotel was recommended. Hotel looked like a traditional motel, with some upgrades. It was clean, rooms were small, the style was retro. There was nothing outstanding about the room, pretty basic. The shower had a detachable hand shower, which was annoying for the taller people in our group. We booked 5 rooms and there were not any other people around (mid-winter). We had drinks in the restaurant with some of our family and the bartender (Libby) was so nice!! It is close to town, so in the summer, I'm sure it's very convenient. We booked online and saved $10. The winter rate was reasonable.

Room Tip: In season, Id probably ask to be near back to avoid street noise, and/or away from pool area.
See more room tips
Green Features: Didn't see any mention of their practices. The bathroom did have "green" soap and shampoo bottles in the shower.

Dear Bonnie W,

Thank you for choosing The Greenporter Hotel. We are happy you enjoyed the cleanliness of our guest rooms and the attention we give to our customers. The Greenporter Hotel is indeed conveniently located at the foot of the Village of Greenport, voted "America's prettiest town" by Forbes Magazine. Your description of retro style is accurate as we are a renovated 1950s style motor lodge with 50s family-style service to match. There are several styles of rooms and some prefer the European-style detachable shower but we have rooms with standard shower heads and will note your preference for the future.

We look forward to serving you again.

My boyfriend and I stayed in a room on New Year's Eve.
The place was clean, but nothing fancy by any means.
We stayed in a King Room. The Room was very big.
Lighting in the bathroom was poor and a very small mirror over the sink that lacked any space to put belongings other than a bar of soap. I had to put my make up bag in the sink to put make up on in the mirror. The shower took about 5-10 minutes to get hot, and even then it wasn't a hot shower. The shower was very dark. If you needed to shave your legs, I'm sure you'd miss a few spots.
The furniture was odd and not very functional. Walls were very thin. We could hear the room next door using the bathroom, flush the toilet, wash their hands.
They had a sign on the door explaining that towels and linens are not meant to be used to clean up any spills. That if any of the towels or linens were stained, a charge would follow.
If I've been drinking, I sometimes fall asleep with make up on. I was super worried I'd leave a lipstick stain, or mascara stain on the all white bed linens.
We didn't have a bad experience here, we just felt you don't get what you pay for. Everything seemed very cheaply done.
The restaurant, however, was delicious and we'd definitley go back again.

We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay in Greenport.

We take great pride to provide our customers with a clean room and "Simple comfort" in the charming Village of Greenport.

The Greenporter Hotel is a renovated 1950's motor lodge with spacious guestrooms, a wonderful restaurant and a great outdoor pool for summer visits.

Thank you again and we look forward to serving you again.

My first stay here, and I can pretty much echo what the other reviews say. Our room was very clean, the continental breakfast was nice, and overall we enjoyed our stay. I'd be a little skeptical about staying here in season, with the increased rates and the influx of children in the pool area.

We stayed here for a Girls Getaway in mid-November. The staff was very accommodating in getting 7 of us set up with 3 rooms side-by-side. The hotel is so close to the town, so you can easily walk into the nice village of Greenport. I agree that the price is a bit high for the decor and what you get, but you can't beat the location and friendly staff. Also, if B&B's aren't your cup of tea, this is a great option.

My boyfriend and I really enjoyed staying at The Greenporter Hotel. We have stayed there before but this time we went a few weekends before Halloween and couldn't get over how beautiful the area was. The Greenporter Hotel is so close to seasonal activities, the local wineries, and we were even in walking distance to town. The front desk was able to give us suggestions on which vineyards to try out and how to get there. The rooms are trendy and the beds are SO comfy. It was a great weekend couple's retreat for us.

It is wonderful to hear that you enjoyed this beautiful wine region and all the special attractions in our charming walking Village. Being able to walk to the public docks, ferries, shops and bars makes Greenport very commutable for our guests in New York and New England. We hope we will see you again very soon and thank you for supporting The Greenporter Hotel.

We have stayed at the Greenporter numerous times. Rooms are simple, but attractive, and we like the hotel's emphasis on eco-friendly materials. Careful attention to service, great location in Greenport, and an excellent bistro restaurant next door. Continental breakfast is terrific.

Suggestion- I do think they should rethink their complicated reservation policy-since they can't afford cancellations in their small setting, they require a signed confirmation form, faxed or scanned to them. People want to feel they can be spontaneous when they get away-this process is too cumbersome, and somehow has a negative feel. But otherwise, a lovely stay at a place that is a welcome change from the "box" hotels.

We stayed here as part of a wedding block this summer. The walls were thin, amenities were pretty meh, and for the price (almost $300/night plus a bunch of bogus add on charges), we weren't impressed and felt pretty ripped off. The front desk staff was definitely nice and ready to help, so no knocks on the service. But for $300 a night, stay in a B&B out there and get more bang for your buck.

Dear Freddy,

Thank you for your feedback of The Greenporter Hotel.

We always encourage our guests to research room rates and accommodations in the area, and those who do so know that The Greenporter Hotel offers a great value for lodging in Eastern Long Island. Due to the nature of the area, the summer weekend rates of all of the local lodging establishments are at their highest levels. There are a few properties in the area that routinely have lower, more budget oriented rates, but these properties are further from the centers of activity and do not offer the same amenities or accessibility to the downtown Greenport area. The bride and groom carefully researched the available lodging options and felt that The Greenporter Hotel was the best value for their guests based on the services we provide and the convenience of our location.

The Greenporter Hotel has an onsite restaurant, Cuvee Seafood and Grille, which provides complimentary continental breakfast to our guests every morning during the summer. Cuvee also serves lunch and dinner and offers poolside and room service to our guests during applicable hours. During the summer, our outdoor pool and hot tub are open from 9am-7pm.

We agree that Greenport has many quaint B&Bs, but we are careful to provide extensive photos and descriptions of our guest rooms on our website to emphasize that we are not a B&B. Nonetheless, in most cases our prices are significantly less than these establishments with significantly more services and amenities. The Greenporter Hotel is really a B&B alternative for travelers seeking some anonymity along with the casual comfort and service of a small beach-style hotel in wine country.

We are surprised to hear that you feel you may have been overcharged as a result of add on charges. Other than the required taxes, charges might consist of food and beverages you may have billed to your room. We always provide customers with a copy of their signed receipt for their consumption and would like to answer any questions you may have regarding your final receipt. We are very sorry that you departed without having your questions satisfied and ask you to call us at front desk at 631-477-0066 or email us at info@thegreenporter.com so that we may review this matter together.
