Stirling House Bed and Breakfast

This was our first trip to the North Fork and arrived a bit later than we hoped (because we wine tasted on our way) but Clay, the owner, was able to get us a reservation at a great restaurant within walking distance. The Frisky Oyster was a perfect spot.

Next morning we awoke to a beautiful crisp spring morning - when for a walk along the beautiful homes on the shore and came back to the smell of fresh brewed coffee and a wonderful breakfast quiche.

I would highly recommend this spot for anyone wanting to get away and relax.

I brought a dear friend - and a somewhat blossoming romance - here for a getaway from the city.

Greenport and the whole North Fork is utterly delightful, especially in the snow, ice and quietness of off-season. All we wanted was to get away from our hectic lives in NYC and London, just for a while.

Stirling House was a delightful place to stay. Quiet and intimate, tucked away at the end of a residential street right off the centre of the town - accessible but personal.

Clay was a real gent - letting me borrow the phone to call the Jitney company after I left my cell on the bus - and letting us check in early so we could go wander around the town.

We took the Green Room, It's a quiet and lovely room with great character, which has a giant King bed, and genuinely charming decor, and warm, bare floorboards that warp gently.

Breakfast was tasty and plentiful, as were the evening cookies, (great) coffee, tea and sodas provided downstairs. Clay was a deft and capable host and clearly knows how to run a great place.

Highly recommended for romantic getaways, young couples and anyone wishing to spend time together, alone.

This was our 2nd time there (both in the off-season) and we were once again delighted with our stay. The proprietor, Clay, is friendly without being overbearing - he gives you plenty of space, but is readily available when needed and always has great advice for what to do in the area. The B&B is immaculately kept and has a nice front porch on which to relax and take in the view (where we could see spending a lot of time in the warmer weather).

The location is fantastic, away from any traffic on a lovely little side-street while still being just a few blocks from the small downtown part of Greenport - with all of its quaint shops, good restaurants, end-of-the-line train station and the marina with the ferry to Shelter Island. The views from Stirling House across the bay to Shelter Island are wonderful, the rooms cozy and nicely decorated, and Clay's breakfasts are truly excellent (for our 3 mornings we had belgian waffles, fluffy baked eggs and amazing french toast, respectively, each with a beautifully presented fruit plate or parfait as a starter and fresh squeezed OJ).

The package deals are fantastic - we got a luncheon and dinner at excellent area restaurants, a truly exceptional wine tasting tour (due largely to Jo-Ann of "Vinatge Tours" incredible knowledge, flexible approach and attention to detail), and an afternoon fondue at a cheese shop, all for a single package price. Make sure you ask Clay for suggestions on where to go and mention him when you get to those places for an especially friendly welcome.

The only downside to Stirling House is that there isn't much space for lounging other than on the porch and the small room in which breakfast is served. Again, aside from the porch, there's really no comfortable seating for curling up with a good book -- even in the bedrooms. It's a pleasant but small place.

Overall, we thought it was a terrific B&B with a friendly and gracious host, convenient location and well maintained, cozy accomodations. Well worth the price.

We have just returned from a Christmas / New Year's holiday
on Long Island. The area is home to us since family are nearby but the owners of the StirlingHouse treat us like family! The breakfasts are gourmet treats! The settings is lovely and relaxing and the town is charming. We discovered this bed and breakfast several years ago while exploring options available on the north and south shore. We took a chance and we are glad we did. This
B&B never disappoints and continues to WOW us!

This was the greatest B&B we have been to in Greenport. Clay was absolutely wonderful. He was so warm, friendly, informational and made the best breakfast I think I have ever had. The place was spic and span clean. Had every ammenity you could imagine. It was a warm and cozy. the room was very spacious. Bathroom was a nice size. My husband loved the towel warmer. If you want to spend a quiet weekend with your significant other, the Stirling House is THE place to stay. It is definitely top notch compared to the others, and my husband and I have been to a handfull of B&B's in the area.

We needed a quick break from home repairs and did not want to travel too far from our Long Island home. Stirling House in Greenport was the perfect getaway. Clay greated us warmly, and we were thrilled with our waterview room. Breakfast was a treat, absolutely delicious. Clay was helpful with dining suggestions. It was only one night, but we felt pampered and refreshed. We recommend it to other "island" folk as a quick and relaxing timeout from the daily grind. Many thanks!
