Here's the deal: the north Fork of Long Island is wonderful and any chance to experience its water views is always a treat. Sound View could be spectacular baed on its location. BUT...what it is right now is a shabby motel which happens to have a prime spot on the Long Island Sound. The rooms could be updated and upgraded with just the smallest bit of effort. So far that doesn't seem on the agenda. We've been coming to this location for years and, likely will continue to do so but our expectations will always remain LOW.

Room Tip: Use it as your base to explore and get as much enjoyment out of that view as possible...but...don...

First time stay here, and at a reduced rate, I think. Not sure what their peak season summer prices are, but I wouldn't want to pay them. The beds were comfortable, but the rooms are generally tired, especially the bathrooms. I doubt that anything has been changed since the 60's, including the tub/shower sliding door, which was very hard to move. It is clearly a summer motel, as there are large gaps on exterior doors. Wind from the sound was howling (not their fault, of course), which meant cold air leaking into the room. Monday morning traffic on 48 started early and was louder than we expected - glad we were there for just one night. I don't know what their competition is in the area, but you might check out other reviews. We did not eat meals at the inn, so no comment on the restaurant, which others seem to like.

Early last month I was faced with a serious health crisis and wanted to get away. I chose the Sound View Inn in Greenport, NY for its location which is near practically all the North Fork attractions. Above all I chose it for its tranquil location on the Long island Sound. Once you close the door behind you and lift your eyes and see the sights through the wall to wall glass doors (I took a 2.5 room suite) overlooking the Long Island Sound you immediately begin to relax. The private beachfront balcony beckons and the gulls seem to call out your name.

The rooms are clean and all the amenities were in working order. I could have used a king size bed but the ones in the rooms were comfortable enough. I really like the kitchenette; we could make our own coffee and tea without having to leave our little refuge.

All in all, I spent two wonderful days at the Sound View Inn. It was just what the doctor ordered.

Pleasant! Great breakfast! Excellent coffee!
A lovely dinner at the restaurant. The ocean was great to look at.
Clean rooms and comfortable mattresses. I recommend people to stay at this inn. The office staff was helpful about the town's activities and very informative. Always willing to help their guests. Plenty of clean towels. I liked the furniture in the room. Very comfortable in all respects.

This motel certainly has a great view of LI Sound, but otherwise leaves a lot to be desired. It is convenient to vineyards and other good restaurants but other than being clean it is way outdated. The restaurant at the inn serves ok food, but nothing memorable.

We stayed at the Soundview Inn in Greenport, LI, NY for 3 days to celebrate our anniversary. We had a 1 and 1/2 bedroom suite on the second floor. The views of the sound were magnificent. The beach is narrow and very rocky, but it was great to walk on after breakfast. (A continental breakfast is included in the rate,) The entire North Fork of Long Island is reminiscent of Cape Cod. We had some fantastic meals in the local restaurants. (The lobster roll at the restaurant in the Marina at Orient Point was the best my wife has had.) Greenport is a quaint village with everything you would need. The rooms at the Soundview Inn are older but they are clean and the service was fine. (They were not crowded the end of September.) Be sure to ask for a room in the two-story build so you are further off the road and they are less noisy. There are tennis, basketball, bocce ball, shuffleboard, etc. in a fenced in area across the street. There is a pool but it was closed when we stayed there. We would stay here again but the prices are resort level.

I had to schedule a quick trip to Long Island without a lot of advance notice. We were only there for two nights and had stayed at the Sound View before, so since we knew it, we booked somewhere we knew.

It was easy to check in and the staff was very friendly. The continental breakfast was pretty good too. We enjoyed some time on the deck watching the seagulls and listening to the waves crash. I spent both nights on the hide-a-bed so we could all fit into one room. It was great to be able to leave the sliding door cracked open to listen to the waves crashing and smell the sea air.

My only criticism of the room was that it is a bit antiquated. It looks like most of the bathroom and kitchenette fixtures are from the 70s, some of the artwork is screwed to the wall through the frames. I normally don't complain about such things, but when the room costs $200 per night I expect a little more.

Finally, the windows on the highway 48 side of the rooms are pretty thin which means you hear all of the traffic which can make it a bit difficult to sleep.

Room Tip: Unless it's a family trip and you'll be there for a number of days, it isn't worth it to...
