New Continental Hotel
Reviewed 1 July 2013

My wife and I have been going to the New Continental Hotel (Inn) since 1982. It has been owned operated since the 1920's by four generations of the same family. Significant improvements have been made to the premises in the last couple of years. My only hope is that they don't overdue the improvements so that it becomes another one of the chain hotels. If you are looking for Motel 6, EconoLodge or Best Western like hotel, this is not for you. If you want a rectangular building full of cookie-cutter type rooms made of drywall with no character, the New Continental Hotel is not for you. This is a place for people who want to feel history all around them while they eat, sleep, and relax.. It's for people who want to sit in the bar and feel like Al Capone or Bonnie & Clyde could come walking through the door at anytime. Being at the water's edge, the setting is perfect for reading, relaxing, swimming, etc. The bed was very comfortable, the air conditioner was capable of making the room too cold even with the outside temperature was in the 90's. The food was scrumptious and ample. Diane and Leo couldn't be better hosts. They are always available to help you. They know all about the history, folklore, and legends about the area. If you want to experience something out of the ordinary humdrum boring hotel chains, then you should book a few nights at the New Continental Hotel. You will leave much more relaxed than when you arrived.

Room Tip: Room #12 is bigger than the rest, looks over the lake, and is on the second floor insuring a good vi...

We were on a couples weekend and thoroughly enjoyed out time at the New Continental Inn. It's been around since the 1920's, hosting the likes of Greta Garbo and Babe Ruth! It's a classic and a delight! Be sure to dine in the dining room at the hotel overlooking the lake. Wonderful!

We stayed over on a friday night in early October. The views and ambiance are beautiful. Plenty of places to sit and relax - gazebos, the outdoor patio, the dock. With the exception of one other couple, I think we were the only ones there - which made our visit quiet and romantic. We ate dinner outside facing the lake. The food was reasonably priced and very good. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The rooms are adequate - small and somewhat outdated but really, the outdoor area is so nice that you won't really want to hang out in your room. Rooms may be older, but at least they were clean. The single complaint I have is the bed. Rock hard, squeaky and had sheets that didn't fit. That said, we would definitely come back, but will bring something to put over the mattress, cause it was that uncomfortable.

We just went to dinner last Sunday and the food was good. The service was great and the view was wonderful. The downside was that my husband went to the men's room and when we left the hotel, we said it was terrible. Pipes and sink were rusted, no ventilation and it smelled terrible. This should have been the first thing the hotel renovated. Hopefully they will fix this problem asap.

We didn't stay in the hotel, just went there for dinner. Interesting is that it is owned by the same family since 1928!!! Food was good, portions are somewhat small for the $$. Outside patio is lovely and there are private dining gazebos. Inside dining decor could use some work....more plants would help, it looked kind of like a hotel dining room, which it is. Choice of music playing was not good and the lighting could be softer. People were very nice and friendly. We will go there again.

terrible hotel. holes in floor in the bathroom. small room. terrible beds, made my back hurt. uncomfortable sheets from 1900's. Bad smell. Room is depressing. the only good thing iss that you are right on top of lake, but spend a little more money and get a better place.
