To see Kaaterskill Falls, you will park in a small lot alongside a busy road. Unfortunately, you'll have to walk about 0.2 miles on this road to reach the trail head, but it's quick. There is a multi-tiered waterfall at the trailhead below the road, which is pretty, but hike 0.5 miles up and enjoy the spectacular Kaaterskill Falls: two tiered falls that, together, are taller than Niagara Falls. At the base of the falls there are a couple of shallow (cold!) swimming basins that our children loved. My husband, brother and sister-in-law brought our kids (two 2 yr-olds and a 4 month-old). When we got to the trail, we were concerned that the rocky incline would be too much for our troops, but we were reassured by hikers coming down that it would be perfectly feasible...and it was. It was also well worth it. There are more treacherous trails that lead to the top of the falls - replete with guiding ropes - which we obviously didn't attempt with the kiddos. I can only imagine that the vista is incredible if you're up for it.
