“Gorgeous mini-hike, doable with kids”

To see Kaaterskill Falls, you will park in a small lot alongside a busy road. Unfortunately, you'll have to walk about 0.2 miles on this road to reach the trail head, but it's quick. There is a multi-tiered waterfall at the trailhead below the road, which is pretty, but hike 0.5 miles up and enjoy the spectacular Kaaterskill Falls: two tiered falls that, together, are taller than Niagara Falls. At the base of the falls there are a couple of shallow (cold!) swimming basins that our children loved. My husband, brother and sister-in-law brought our kids (two 2 yr-olds and a 4 month-old). When we got to the trail, we were concerned that the rocky incline would be too much for our troops, but we were reassured by hikers coming down that it would be perfectly feasible...and it was. It was also well worth it. There are more treacherous trails that lead to the top of the falls - replete with guiding ropes - which we obviously didn't attempt with the kiddos. I can only imagine that the vista is incredible if you're up for it.

Just a .50 mile hike takes you to this gorgeous site. We had a wonderful time. Be aware that the parking lot is small and gets full quickly.
It's a great getaway from the city.

A great half hour hike from the road to the bottom. We then drove to the top which was close to the car parking. The weather was misty and cloudy and this just added to the atmosphere.

Ive been to the falls numerous times and am amazed by the beauty of the falls each time. The hike to the falls is a nice hike for family hikes. It does get slick and can be slippery at times. There are some tough spots but you will certainly be rewarded by the beauty of the falls. For the more experianced hikers making it to the top of the falls, is a little more challenging. Theres a nice section where you can actually get behind the falls and the water is actually falling in front of you while you stay dry. Awesome. You can even get to the very top of the falls and hang your feet over the rocks. What a view. If your in the catskills you have to come and take it all in.you do have to park a little ways from the falls and walk on the highway but its certainly worth it.

Need a reason to visit the Catskills when its not snowing? Look no further than this gem!
Start off at Bastion Falls (right off the road) and hike up to Kaaterskills Falls (double water fall) for a round trip hike of about 2 miles. There is no reason to rush, so plan for 2 hours total.
The path is easy and well kept (recommend hiking boots as you'll cross some small water runoffs and through some dirt) and only about ~500 feet of total ascent with great views throughout so bring a camera.
Parking is tight (at both top and bottom lots), so earlier you arrive the better. Don't park on the road, not even a little bit because you'll get towed!
